Humble Gets Boned
May 4, 2011 @ 16:49
I don't like to say "fired" because that's such a nasty word when you're talking about someone you care about. "Fired" is for hockey coaches, slimy businessmen and dog fuckers. When it comes to a hard working guy who put a lot into his show and thought he was on the right track to where the station wanted to be, you say "let go." Only Howard can provide the details as to what happened and why. Maybe he can do another guest column about being "let go", like he did the last time it happened. It's a whacky world. It seems like only yesterday that the Humble and Fred Show was hummin' along in Toronto, we were having a lot of fun and we thought it would never end. Then you say yes when you should have said no and the fickle finger of fate rams you right up the ass. Howard will be fine. He ain't dumb you know.
Danger Boy Departs
May 1, 2011 @ 10:26
He was picking up some fragile stuff from his Brampton house and taking it out to his new place near St. Catherines. Jason has lived his entire life in Brampton, but that changed this weekend because of his new job at 97.7 HTZ-FM. Jason and I have actually lived in the same neighbourhood for the past five years and in the same community for fifteen. A lot went through my mind as he excitedly told me about his new house on an acre of land about 15 minutes outside of St. Kitts. He always wanted a country property, and now he's got one. But unlike working in Toronto, he won't have to drive for an hour to get to work. "Just 15 minutes up a quiet country road" he said. My mind raced back to the mid-90's when I first met Jason. Humble and I were looking for an intern while we were still working on Kennedy Rd. in Brampton. Interns were interesting. Several said they wanted to do it, but very few, after having to get up at 4:30 in the morning, stuck. Jason stuck and it wasn't long before he was the full time producer of our show and Humble gave him the nickname Danger Boy. Danger Boy came from performing all kinds of stunts on the Humble and Fred Show that got us lost of attention back in the 90's. He remained our producer until 2001 when Humble and I decided to lick the dynamite stick that was MOJO Radio. Yes, it blew up in our faces. We were at Jason's wedding and got to know his sweet wife Elizabeth, we saw his two beautiful boys come into the world and I remember leaving work one morning to go see a town house that Jason wanted to buy. He wanted my opinion. It was a great starter home and he bought it, at a very young age, and it turned out to be spring board to the beautiful spread he just bought in Niagara. This guy is no dummy. I still receive e-mails asking about Jason / Danger Boy so yesterday's visit is well timed. For those of you who don't know already, he's doing the morning show on HTZ-FM with Chris Biggs. It's the Biggs and Barr Show. He loves where he works, who he works with and he absolutely loves his new home. Good luck my friend, and thanks for the box of Humble and Fred CD's you found during the move. You were a big part of it. They might be worth something one day. Or not.
He Had Nice Skin
April 25, 2011 @ 08:06
It was on the Edge where Ken and Mary-Jo Eustace first made an appearance on the Humble and Fred Show. They also popped up on MOJO, and on a few occasions Mary-Jo guest Freded. They were doing "What's for Dinner" at the time and they were great guests because they worked so well together. We had a good time with them, and Ken was a gracious and warm fella who was fun to be around. Mary-Jo is drop dead gorgeous, and I can't for the life of me understand why her former prick husband Dean McDermott would dump her for Tori Spelling. You can't bone money. I think it was around 2001 that Howard and I appeared on "What's for Dinner". I can't remember what the recipe was, but I do remember that Ken kept giving us shit for asking stupid questions. But it was fun shit. Ken was ill for some time, battliing something called acute pancreatitis, which I found rather surprising. Whenever I saw the guy, up until recently, he always looked so healthy, especially his skin. I'm not the type of guy to notice another guy's skin, but Ken Kostick had great skin. He was only 58 years old. What a waste. Category: Radio
94.3 The Bone
April 21, 2011 @ 18:04
By the way, I can spit further than 99 watts travels through the air, so it gives you some idea of their motives - they're a classic case of David. The station is called 94.3 The Bone, it's a New Rock station and it's positioned against 89X in Windsor where Dean Blundell first made his mark. But man oh man, what a pathetic attempt at funny. Here's their slogan. "No lame Canadian rock. Just the best of today's new rock. American rock." What a pile of crap. "No lame Canadian rock." Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of Americans tune in daily to not only 89X, but also Canada's Rock Station 100.7 The Rock, where I spend part of every Wednesday morning with Craig and Matt. Ironically, like most businesses in Detroit, The Bone doesn't have any employees. The goddamn economy in Vacant City is so bad nobody can afford anything, so the spin on this Mickey Mouse operation is to have no jocks and pretend it's a strategy beyond having no money in a wiped out city in a failing country with a dollar that will soon be on par with river rock. I know, I know I'm probably playing right into their hands by giving them space on this blog, which probably has way more readers than they do listeners, but what the fuck, I can't help myself. I often bask in American ignorance and this is the height of it because having no jocks has worked in just about nowhere. Go ahead, check out the website and read some more of the dumb ass American shit they've come up with. The Rock and 89X have nothing to worry about. Category: Radio |

Yes its true, my friend and former partner Humble Howard has been "let-go" from his morning show duties at Boom 97.3.
My rant on the NDP farce.
I received a nice surprise yesterday. While working in my backyard, the gate swung open and it was Jason Barr.
I didn't know Ken Kostick very well, but I did get to know him well enough to feel pretty shitty when I heard he died last week.
I know I shouldn't do this because it only gives them what they want, attention. But there's a 99 watt radio station in the asshole of America (Detroit) that's launched an attack blitz against Canadian radio.
