Quote Of The Day - Jim Balsillie

May 15, 2009 @ 08:54

Thursday, May 14, 2009

"We're the source of the game, the players, and the money, and I think we should have a seventh team. I spent five years looking for a front door. We couldn't find a front door. I found a side door."

Balsillie comes out swinging.

Bill Hutton

May 14, 2009 @ 08:47

It was with a heavy heart I received the news yesterday that former CFNY General Manager Bill Hutton had passed away in Halifax at the age of 83.

Like many NYer's of the 80's I have several stories that involve Bill Hutton, but more than anything else, he taught me how to say more in less time without talking faster. It was all in the writing.

I could go on, but rather than do that, I thought it more fitting to post something that David Marsden wrote about Mr. Hutton.

"Bill Hutton was an amazing guy!!! When Selkirk took over CFNY they sent Bill Hutton in to find out what The Spirit of Radio was all about. He took me to lunch and let me explain it all to him. He listened intently and ask extremely good questions.

I didn't know it at the time but bill had a nick-name of - The Fireman. But for all of us at CFNY that name meant nothing.

After a few more meetings together Bill Hutton let us all run with what we loved. And he made sure Selkirk kept the cheque book open to help me make my dreams come true.

When Selkirk owned CFNY - Bill Hutton truly was the guy behind the scenes who allowed it all to happen.

Many of the ideas I would put forth probably would have scared the Hell out of most traditional radio Vice Presidents. Bill Hutton would smile that special smile of his, ask me a few questions and say - let's do it.

Bill Hutton we shall never forget you. And may I say it one more time - THANK YOU!!!!"
