I'll give Sun TV news a try. The product on CP 24 is boring. I hope the news is updated more often than it is on CP 24. Wasn't Roger's talking about a 24 hour news channel for the GTA and outlying area? It was a couple of years ago that I read this in the paper.

Freddie - please give us advance warning if you get invited to be a guest on their show. I'd love to cheer you on!

The people who want to censor what we can or cannot watch or listen to, seem to be the same sort of people that want to have another inquiry into the G20 summit protests. ‘How bad it was that rights to peaceful protests were being trampled on by the big bad police.’ Same old double standard from the left, ‘listen to me but I don’t have to listen to you.’
Perhaps there is another blogger out there who will protest so vehemently that he or she will issue a ‘not on my watch’ threat and stop at nothing until Sun TV is gone.

The fact that Sun TV News will be going on air in April is moot because it will not be generally available to regular cable viewers like the other news channels. I understand you'll be only able to get it if you pay extra or subscribe to some additional package. The only people watching it will be special interest groups shelling out the extra bucks, who are either for or against it. The average cable subscriber with no specific political views will probably not even bother. So what's the point? Sun TV News will either be preaching to the choir or providing fodder for the lefties. I'm not going to shell out extra cash just out of curiosity.

We can all turn the dial whether it's TV, radio or www. to what we want.
Always like reading the odd Sun paper. And sometimes the Globe and Nat and TorStar. All different and all good.
What did Derringer say on the radio today. Baker Street brought in Gerry Raferty $80000 a yr. Imagine what the Estates of other dead artists get? Lennon, Harrison, Joplin, Sinatra...and on.

Ha ha! Good for you, Fred. I look forward to reading the responses -- if you get them. And why wouldn't you? They've got a channel to promote...

I don't have a problem with Sun TV in particular, but it does seem more than a mere coincidence that it's arrival comes at the same time the CRTC is proposing changes to its own regulations which prohibit presenting "false and misleading" statements as "news". Essentially the CRTC is considering relaxing those rules, in effect allowing media outlets to present skewed or blatantly untrue information as fact. My worry is that we'll end up with exactly the same type of garbage as FOX in the US if this proposal is passed, and Sun TV will really become "Fox North".

A rag on TV eh? It will be the little TV station that folded.

@Torpedo:
For your own edification, Alberta sends 21$ billion to Ottawa from a sum total of 3.7 million people. That's less than the GTA. It has no debt & has billions in savings to cover things like deficits.
But here's where it's really different than Ontario....
3 years ago Stelmach took the leader gig with the Alberta Conservatives. 40 years in power. He introduced a royalty change to the oil and gas business when prices were falling. The results were crushing, killing many of the small to mid size providers that are the industry here.
The result? A bye election was held in a Calgary riding that had been a Conservative stronghold since the 60s. Stelmach's boys came in THIRD. Behind the 2nd place Liberals. The winner? An upstart party just a few months old called the Wildrose Alliance. The results sent a message but it was too late
A few of the Con's jumped ship to the Wildrose Alliance now with Danielle Smith in charge. Polls put them at over 40% in Southern Alberta. A party less than 2 years old. QR77 talk show host Dave Rutherford, a defacto TRUE blue Conservative turned on Stelmach, championing the Wildrose Alliance. Ralph Kleins Dad publicly announced he had joined the Wildrose Alliance. Sound bytes like "I been a Conservative for 50 years but I can't support this party" became common.
Stelmach announced a budget. His finance minister Teddy Morton refused to read it because it had a deficit and was going to resign his post. Stelmach's budget came through resulting in Alberta having to use it's "savings" to pay the bills. Another senior cabinet minister (Oberg) moved to the Wildrose Alliance. It's feasible that within 10 years the Conservatives in Alberta will be extinct. Wiped out.
And in Ontario? You gave Dalton a bigger majority.
Ask the extinct Progressive Conservative Party what happens when you upset the West. When you focus on Quebec and poor money management. THink "Preston Manning".
That said dude, I'll take my debt free province with savings AND jobs AND no SALES tax over your rust belt any day. Next on the list should be our own pension, our own police force and our own Army.

I'm so glad we don't have you running the country. Obviously you are a right winger catering to a parade of morons and imbeciles. You belive Fox News North will give a voice to the right? You're out to lunch. What do you think talk radio is? How's the unemplyment line anyways? Your wife is probably getting bigger gigs than you these days.

Sorry everybody for hijacking the thread. It's just that Irvine was ducking the facts in the "The Cult" thread, so I had to dog him a bit. I'm sure most of you were like me and didn't bother to read his essay-length reply, so no real harm was done except to Irv's circulatory system and his keyboard as he hammered out his diatribe. Loving it.

FYI Mike, if the only thing keeping the left leaning CBC afloat is our tax dollars, and you have the balls to say that SunTV will fold.

The above Anon was me.

The "Fox News North" petition wasn't objecting to Sun TV News getting licensed at all; it was objecting to Sun TV News getting *special* carriage privileges, like guaranteed carriage rights on all cable companies nationwide, which would effectively have forced all cable subscribers to pay for it whether we wanted it or not.
If you want Sun TV News, then by all means, pay for it, watch it and enjoy it to your heart's content. But those of us who aren't interested shouldn't be forced to pay for it against our wills too.

"There just seems to be a lot of sniping against Stephen Harper, Conservatives and right wing people being stupid and not being capable of making proper judgments based on what they see."
With respect Fred; but if one swaps out Harper, Conservatives and right wing and inserts Ignatieff/McGuinty/Layton, Liberal/NDP and left wing, then you are the pot calling the kettle black.
Not a criticism; just an observation.
For what it's worth, I'm tired of the kneejerk mudslinging namecalling hatred-filled vitriol that seems to dominate politics these days, on ALL sides.
What ever happened to compromise; to finding the common ground to better the common good? I always thought that was the Canadian way; not this divisive polarizing garbage that we see across all aspects of everything.

"If you want Sun TV News, then by all means, pay for it, watch it and enjoy it to your heart's content. But those of us who aren't interested shouldn't be forced to pay for it against our wills too"
Craig - do mean in the same way we are all forced to pay for the left-leaning CBC through our tax dollars, whether we like it or not??
