Freddie P. Needs Your Help

July 25, 2010 @ 11:56

I had a video camera that I bought back in the 90's and I have no idea where it is. But that's only part of the problem. Here's the biggest part.

I have about half a dozen tapes filled with wonderful family memories that are on those tapes and I have no way to transfer them.

It was a Sony Super 8, I can't tell you the model number but the pictures I've provided show the tape format it used.

If anyone out there has a camera I could borrow or buy I'd love to hear from you.

I understand there are places you can go and have the tapes transferred at a hefty cost, but I'd rather transfer the taps to digital myself and only grab what I need or want.

Having said that, if you can recommend some "transfer places" I'll appreciate that as well.

Loving ya's all, each and every one of ya.

@Fred,
Have you made and friends with the CHEX-TV nerds in Peterborough?
I'm sure they might be able to help you out, and it will only cost you a bottle.

Hey Freddie,

I think I can help you out. I am sure I can find a camera for you. I know I have several of them around somewhere in the house. They are Sanyo but they should work just as well. You may have to go out and buy a battery because mine may be all flat.

Anyway, if you need my help just e-mail me and I will dig one out and make sure it is a working one.

Cheers,

Hey Fred,

Did your camwera come with the adapter case that you could put the tapes into so you could watch them on a vcr? if so, buy a cheap vcr/dvd recorder unit and transfer them yourself. I bought one of those for about $60 and transferred over about 20 of my old tapes...

That size tape only works in the camera or a special VCR.
I have the camera you need and a DVD recorder...the process is simple and I am doing my collection too. Costs $.25 for a blank DVD...let me know if you can't find something closer to you.

As far as I know, any 8mm camcorder will work. You would need to hook it up to a DVD recorder. Check The Source for a way to hook said camcorder to your computer. You can burn a DVD on the computer if you have a DVD burner.

I would just take them to Blacks. We did that with my parents old home movies from the 60s. It's not expensive. Freddie, just save yourself the hassle and let the experts do it.
