His economic and social policies have been very similar to Chretien and Martin and only recently has he taken a more social conservative approach on abortion and the g@y pride crap (not sure what they're so proud of). I say thank God he's finally growing a pair in standing up for what's morally right.

Luminato is classy. The Royal is a family event. I'm not against Gay Pride week at all. However, it's hardly classy or a family event. Any other "group" carrying on in the way the Pride Paraders do would be delinquent and run out of town on a rail. There certainly wouldn't be a repeat performance. I thank the organizers for all they do for our city. The Gay lifestyle is fine and should be accepted. However, the militant "in your face" attitude does nothing to further their interests. Perhaps instead of pouring gas on the fire, they may get a little more buy-in from the public and government if they exhibited a little bit more control. And that's why I said "Right On" when I heard there was no funding for the Pride Parade this year. As someone else pointed out, Steveo wasn't getting the gay vote, let alone many Toronto votes anyways....

Pretty simple: Harper and his party listen to and take advice from people who make the world safe for child molesters.
That, and the fact that he's dragging this country backwards socially.
And he takes credit for economic safeguards put in place by other governments that helped us avoid the worst of this recession. Since he's the bitch of big business, we could easily be worse off than the USA if he had more time to put his fingerprints on our economy.
How about his unwavering support of Israel? Is it just me, or are people who think god promised them land complete wack jobs?
Have we covered his complete disdain for democracy? His belief that parliament serves at his beck and call is dangerous, and he certainly has a totalitarian streak in him.
Reducing the GST to 5% was moronic pandering that got great reviews from the many idiots that post here. Anyone spending more money because of it? Now can anyone tell me how much money is not going to things like health and education because of it? For God's sake.
Does his lack of balls concern anyone? He must pick and choose who gets to ask him questions, because: 1)He can't think on his feet; 2)A free press does not fit into his vision of Canada.
One other thing: I wasn't comparing Harper to Hitler, that's idiotic and I'm surprised (but not really) people took it that way. The reason I brought up Hitler was to show that having principles means nothing. The KKK have principles, and they stick to them pretty ferociously, big friggin deal.

I agree with your point that if the Gay Pride Parade has been so successful, it should be able to stand on it's own two feet. That said, it's also true that The Royal, Luminato, and for that matter the Calgary Stampede are all receiving funding... once again.
So, why is that?
Isn't it about Bang for your Buck? Government coffers feed industry (in this case tourism) to generate income for members of the immediate community. The 400K pumped into the Toronto community is a small investment for a big payout. Just as money pumped into The Royal, and the Stampede welcomes high returns.
I think the Gay Pride Parade funding denial this year has less to do with the economics involved, and more to do with the moral stand of the Harper Government.
He very much has a bullish "my-way-or-the-highway" sort of stand. I've always considered Canada to be a society built on comprimise, and understanding.
So, anyhow: no Gay Pride Parade funding this year. And I'm cool with that. His government has the power to make these decisions; moreover they have an obligation. I just wish they'd have the guts to say what guides their decisions.
Harper: The points he gains with resolve, he loses with attitude.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard.
