Habs Watch - The Nonsense Continues

May 6, 2010 @ 21:51

It's to the point now where I don't think I'm going to watch any more games in this series. Why suffer the aggravation of watching a team that doesn't belong in the playoffs let alone in the second round tied with the Stanley Cup champs at two games apiece.

I understand why it's great for Hab fans, but for the rest of us who've been enjoying "real" hockey in the other series, it's simply too tough to watch.

The Habs should have been dead and buried tonight, and I'll be honest, with the way its lining up I can't help but wonder if this is going to be one of those bullshit Hab years like '86 and '93, although at least in those years the Habs actually shared the ice with the other team.

If it was any other team I might get pulled in by the oddity of it all, but Hab fans don't deserve this good fortune and to watch them react the way they do makes me want to upchuck.

They profess to know hockey, but this ain't hockey. It's some new sport featuring a guy who's playing way above his head while getting an extremely heavy dose of horseshoeitis.

It was interesting to hear Guy Lafluer on the Bill Watters Show this afternoon. When asked about the Canadiens rope-a-dope style in these playoffs he replied, "It puts me to sleep."

Well said Guy. I wonder if he still can't get a boner.

I know Freeway Frank has one in Calgary right now.

....But somehow they win. When is it bullshit luck and when is it something else??

They have gotten into the heads of the Penguins and that can be a tough thing to overcome.

...you'll watch.

I think it's possible that you might even begrudgingly begin to root for them. That is, if they continue on.

It's The Underdog Factor, Fred. Who can resist it?!

Incidently, I thought the game was great. No so much for the play-action... but imagining how blue the air was becoming at your place...

Cheers!

Freddie...did you listen to the rest of the conversation with the Flower - it's about winning in the playoffs, the style of doing that is the path you take. Kirk Muller must be given alot of credit here for both series. Apparently he is the 'shut down' architect. Oh, and throw a 'lights out' goalie in the mix too - something any team (Leaf fans have been pining for one for a few years now) would love to have!
Canadians fans aside - they are bringing it!

Gene
May 7, 2010 / 07:32

They're bringing it? Outshot, outplayed, outhustled and outfinnessed.
They're standing around letting their goalie do it all, and it won't continue.

Jake
May 7, 2010 / 07:35

The Bobby Orr-Guy LaFleur days are long gone. Hockey is more like chess now---as seen by the Sedins act. No fault of theirs but that's what works.

With all that you have said Fred... would the Leaf fans love to be in this position, horseshoeitis and all???

F'in right they would.

John
May 7, 2010 / 08:36

They're certainly not being outplayed on defence or in goal, though, are they? I've followed the Habs all my life. Guy Lafleur is/was a goal scorer, and rarely skated in his team's own end of the ice. He was a great goal scorer, mind you, but in this age of hockey, he'd be a defensive liability, and in Montreal he'd get benched the same way Kostitsyn gets benched when he's not producing points to make up for his lack of backcheck. NO team wins a Stanley Cup by fluke or by chance. It takes a lot of hard work to get 16 wins in the playoffs. You seem to be only seeing what you want to see, and not what's actually taking place.

Fred, with respect, you continue to embarrass yourself; grasping at straws to denigrate and insult the Habs and their fans after each playoff win. Yes, you hate the Habs, loathe them like the good anglophone, working-class Scarborough boy that you are. But therein lies the increasingly pathetic weakening of your tirades. How dare you suggest that the Habs winning four rounds in the playoffs in '86 and '93 constitute "bullshit Habs years"? You dare suggest it...simply because you hate the Montreal Canadiens. No team wins the NHL championship on bullshit. Fred, at first I thought you were half-joking in your needling of the Habs and their fans after each playoff win. Now, I see your comments for what they truly are: biased, one-sided, narrow-minded, and seething with real hatred. One other thing ya hoser, the last time the Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup (Pierre Trudeau was justice minister, Mick Jagger was 23 years old and Queen Elizabeth was 41), they too had been accused of "not belonging in the playoffs" (what a stupid line). The last seed, just squeaking in, they knocked off the top-ranked Blackhawks in the semi-final with, guess what Fred!!!......stellar goaltending and team defence in the face of the firepower of Hull, Mikita, et al. They won. Period. And good on them for pulling it off. There Fred. A devout Habs fan who objectively acknowledges an accomplishment by the Maple Leafs. You would gain more respect and credibility if you were able to do the same for the Habs. But make no mistake, I understand your rants are deliberately provocative and inane. Hey Canadianthinker.com fans! Which single NHL PLAYER has won the same number of Stanley Cup championships as the Maple Leafs FRANCHISE?

CBC and their entourage have shit on the Habs for years. Yesterday night they did a montage of 7-8 penalties that were never called on Pitts. Why would they do this and Healy/Cherry of all people agree there's something fishy going on?
Proves my point. Terrible reffing and Mtl deserves to win the series. They will.

Merkin
May 7, 2010 / 15:22

It's lousy hockey. I would have a hard time convincing somebody new to the game to sit down and watch Montreal's style of hockey hoping they'd find it appealing.

It would be like a punk Woodbridge greaseball screaming "Forza!" making me watch the "beautiful game" to convince me that soccer is anything more than the Toronto Pride Parade on grass.

Freddie P.
May 7, 2010 / 15:58

@Freeway.. I find this hilarious. Whenever a Leaf fans talks about Gretzky's high stick on Gilmour, Hab fans guffaw in their aggravating why and tell us not to talk about the officials.
But I guess its ok in this case.
Maybe Lapierre's diving has had an adverse affect.
Man do I ever want the Habs to lose.

get so fed up with the Montreal fans being the third referee in every game, yelling for even the slightest infraction.

Montreal hockey is 5 on 4, then they love it.
