Madness In Manhatten

May 3, 2010 @ 08:11

As frightening as Saturday night's attempted bombing in NYC was, it shouldn't be surprising. In fact I'm amazed that there still hasn't been an attack of note since George W. Bush thought it would be a good idea to blame Iraq for 911.

When you consider the commonplace of suicide and car bombings in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past decade it's hard to believe there hasn't been at least one person strap a bomb to their body and blow themselves up somewhere in Manhattan.

It would be easy to do, strike terror through an entire population and accomplish what most of these terrorist nimrods want, bring commerce in America's largest city to a grinding halt.

The jury is still out on who's responsible for the amateur car bomb that fizzled in Times Square on Saturday night, but its very existence shows how vulnerable all of us are and how quickly lives could be turned upside down with the simple press of a button.

Given America's questionable involvement in the Middle East, they seem to be on borrowed time when it comes to an incident in a crowded area, be it Times Square or a subway system.

Even if a nutball was acting alone and had no direct attachment to a terrorist group, you've got to be believe there are thousands of disgruntled people living in the United States who have considered such an act.

And if so, it only makes you shutter when you consider the havoc an organized group could wreak in downtown New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. Why it hasn't happened yet is something that has been pickin' at my brain for years now because it would be relatively simple to do and there's virtually no defense against it.

I visited Manhattan just a couple of months after 911 and I remember at the time feeling nervous while being in the city wondering if there could be another strike of some kind while I was there. Looking at the still smoldering ruins of the WTC will do that to you.

But like most things, with time the fear wears off and I've returned a couple of times and dying in the streets hasn't been top of mind.

Saturday night can't help but to get a guy thinkin' again. But I shall return. The bad guys can't win.

I agree re: last paragraph.

However; regarding Iraq... let's see... G.W. took out a dictator who was INDEED a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION despite typical lib-left drive-by mainstream "media" bleatings to the contrary.

Saddam NOT a WMD?

Yeah, just ask the Kurds.

Oh wait, you can't... because they're DEAD.

Gassed to death.

Time now for tactical nuclear strikes against the "strongholds" of those Islamic bastards behind 9-11.

Let's take out the trash.

50+ posts about the Habs vs. Capitals, but only two about this? What a bunch of stereotypical hosers we are.
Fred, maybe it's as simple as it's not as easy as you think to commit large scale acts of terrorism anymore. Maybe increased vigilance and security measures that have everyone bitching are actually effective. Attempts like the Time Square thing should just serve as a wake up call that everything isn't fine again.

Got news for you Freddie, the terrorists have already won. How long did it take you to get through security the last time you boarded a plane? How long was the line-up at the border the last time you crossed one? You have people on this site (Right Uppercut
) using terms like "Islamic bastards" as well as the general poulation who would have never used that term prior to Sept. 11/01. It takes me an extra 15-20 mins. to get into work due to increased security measures since 9/11. People are frightend every time a bomb goes off or there is some sort of explosion and imediatly assume "Terrorists". There is still no evidence against either the Taliban or Iraq for the Twin Tower attacks. The "Terrorists" have already won.

Steve Brown, HUH??? Pig Dog? Surrendered? What the hell are you talking about? I only posted an educated opinion based on fact. I did not resort to name calling or jumping on the religious band wagon. "Fight like your brothers in Afghanaistan"???Grow up and educate yourself or shut up.

The purpose of your website can be great for my students. A lot of great resources are free in here. Initially, I have introduced your website to my students in my class, so don’t be confused if your website hits are increase dramatically. I discuss many topics, still debating in every aspect that can be debated, and at the end of my class (every week), I told them about the conclusion of your topic. Hot topic and atmosphere can be fun here. And then, you might be surprised that my students got new story every day, and also all of them can express their idea in home and school. Especially they told to her/his mom/dad, that they learnt many topics from teacher that learnt from you. Surprisingly that everyone wants to get new challenge in your idea, and then when I give new topic, it can be challenging for all of my students.

Hi there and thanks for the information - I've most definately learned something new here. I did however come across a few technical problems with this website, because I needed to keep loading the site numerous times before I could get it to render properly. I wonder if your hosting service is OK? Not that I'm one to complain, but slow loading times will sometimes affect your ranking in the search engines and can lower your quality score if using Adwords. Anyway I am adding your feed to my email and look forward to more of your interesting content. Please post again soon...

When my wife first fell pregnant we decided to get online and try to research as much as possible so we knew what was going to happen. There were plenty of decent sources of information, however if you are in australia we don't think anything can compete with bubhub for the sheer amount of information all in one place.

This site appears to recieve a large ammount of visitors. How do you get traffic to it? It offers a nice unique twist on things. I guess having something authentic or substantial to give info on is the most important factor.
