What Ever Happened to Principle

March 17, 2010 @ 08:25

Snowbirds flock to bloody Mexico. How anyone could patronize this dirthole is beyond me. Have we not seen enough?

Freddie i know you have a hatred hard-on for this country, which made me think twice about going to an all inclusive there in December. I did some research, talked to a number of agents, and scoured tripadvisor.ca

I was very hesitant at first, but I must say my experience there exceeded all my expectations in a good way. Of course, it wasn't the "real" Mexico as i stayed at a 5+ star resort just outside of Cancun, and with the exception of one day trip into Cancun for some speedboating, I stayed clear of walking the streets.

In fact, my resort (The Excellence Playa Mujeres) was very remote, and we had to go through 3 security checkpoints (which says something all on its own of course.) to get in. I got the feeling the resorts are not taking chances with security for obvious reasons. It's helpful because aside from the security itself, visitors are given peace of mind seeing the physical presence of security personnel.

In Cancun I never felt like i was in any danger or never saw anything dodgy, so my final conclusion was that the whole Mexico thing has been blown out of proportion.

I think it really depends on how you travel. If you're not staying in a resort you're simply increasing the percentages you'll come across someone or something unsavory. And, it also depends on the quality of resort. I wouldn't stay at anything less than a 4.5star in general for a number of reasons, and in Mexico, security is one of them, even if it's just for peace of mind.

Ryan.. with all due respect, you're missing the point. I know there are fabulous resorts in Mexico, and I realize there are compounds that are secure, it's principle I'm talking about. The police are corrupt and the government looks the other way to protect tourism.
If you like it there great, but I for one, will not give them a penny.

yea i get your point but there's likely some degree of "corruption" in every country, particularly in countries down south.

hell - giambrone just got caught charging booty call taxi rides to us taxpayers, and that's just scratching the surface of the bullshit that goes on in a great modern city like toronto! no i'm not comparing mexico to canada, but my point is that no place is squeaky clean.

Ryan, I totally agree with you. Using Freds' logic, we shouldn't go anywhere that has a corrupt government or police force. Guess what? That is everywhere!!! Including Toronto and Canada. I love Mexico and have been there 7 times in the last 12 years and I am planning on going back next year. I do like it when people bad mouth my favorite vacation spots, helps keep the price down!!! Keep up the good work, Fred!!!

I usually read the content on blogs before I leave a comment. If I have very little to say of the page topic, I wouldn't leave any opinions. And I'm keen to read somebody else’s criticism on that post as well. Because I find both interesting and useful ideas from the high quality comments. I'd have posted “Really good blog! Fantastic posts!” then I could possibly be spamming your blog. I as well have a blog site, one thing I will do daily when i signed on to my site is check reviews to my posts and physically approve or reject these remarks. Keywordluv not only brings you more commenters. It boosts your position in search engines being you’re not simply on several “dofollow blog lists” but in addition on a number of those “keywordluv lists”. Many thanks, Pat
