No matter what the outcome was in the courtroom, I doubt if there's
anyone on this earth who believes that Jaffer is NOT guilty of drunk
driving, speeding and coke possession. Getting these charges dropped
smacks of some really sneaky back room dealing and puts an even bigger
cloud over Jaffer's head. Not only did he commit those crimes, he
bought the judge and prosecutor to get this sweetheart deal. The only
thing that could mitigate things for Jaffer now is if the Crown
disclosed all the legal arguments that took place behind closed doors
and let the public decide if the outcome was fair and justified. If
that doesn't happen, the public will always know something shady took
place. In any case, Jaffer now has no future in public life, or any
legitimate business.

This stuff happens ALL the time. If you are a "celebrity" of any kind,
you get special treatment.
I know of a local media personality who drove around town with expired
plates for 2 years cause he racked up over $11,000.00 in parking fines.
When someone finally blew the wistle, all that happened is he got to
make a special deal to pay it off slowly. Fast forward to this year and
once again he's racked up parking fines and let his plates expire. And
the local news won't expose him even though they know about it cause
they fear losing advertizing dollars.
Ironically, the Vancouver candidate was National news when it was found
out he had a $150.00 light rail transit fine. Obviously he didn't have
enough friends yet (sigh)

Nothing new about this kind of dealings. Don't have to be a celebrity
either.
I personally know of 3 guys who were stopped during the RIDE program
and blew way over 0.8 and were charged with DUI. Each one of them found
out through friends. etc. abut lawyers who could get their charges
reduced to careless driving, which is not a criminal offense.
Guess what, each one of them got their charges dropped to careless
driving. The lawyer's fee ranged between $5K and $8K.
This really pisses me off but apparently this happens all the time.
