John B February 8, 2010 / 15:51 I think you guys didn't get it quite right about the US Superbowl commercials. If you're in receiving a Detriot channel OTA (not cable) you WILL see the US commercials. There is no way a Canadian network carrying the same program can jam the US TV station signal and substitute their own. Anyway, while I also don't like watching substituted Canadian commercials on US network shows carried by Canadian networks for the simple reason that the uniquely US commercials are mostly meaningless to me, so I can just laugh at them instead of being targeted, there is a very valid reason for substitution. Canadian companies pay good money for commercials based on the number of viewers expected to see them. If substitution was not guaranteed, the fees Canadian networks could charge for advertising on shows originating from a US network would have to be drastically reduced. This would most certainly put a lot of Canadian TV out of business. Besides, if I want to see those Superbowl commercials badly enough, I can go to Youtube and don't even have to watch the Superbowl. That's a bonus for me because I hate football! Right Uppercut February 8, 2010 / 18:44 CTV should reimburse you and I for being subjected to an "Olympian STROKE-OFF" the size of Mount Olympus every 30 seconds! Very annoying. I'd rather have seen the U.S. commercials instead of that! And; knowing how the IOC and related "Olympic" outfits behave, it's the TAXPAYER that's gonna get an Olympus-sized debt pounded right up our financial asses. Look what happened in Montreal. Took us over 30 years to pay off that scam. Rick C in Oakville February 8, 2010 / 21:38 Right Uppercut, you can add Greece to the Olympic Financial hangover. I wouldn't be cynical if I hadn't read that this is an industry that a few have hung their hat on to go every couple years to build, promote and cash in.
