Why Does God Pick On Leaf Fans

January 13, 2010 @ 08:51

From the Toronto Star: After Tuesday night's loss, the Leafs fell to within four points of the last-place Hurricanes in the East, while remaining a threadbare two points out of second-last overall in the league.

Naturally, skepticism is growing since the Boston Bruins, who acquired the Leafs' first-round picks this year and next for Phil Kessel, stand to reap a top-three pick should the Leafs continue to falter and finish at or near the bottom of the league.

Ultimately, the Leafs continue to fail as a team.

They have outshot opponents 12 times in the last 14 games - including a whopping 40-18 margin against Carolina on Tuesday night - but have won only three times during that span.

You'll see more of the youth being promoted as the season goes by. Burke won't allow Denis Dupere-Stew Gavin-Greg Terrion type floaters for too long.

Those top draft picks will hurt.

God became man, and we crucified him.

The Leafs are God's revenge.

Good one, Pauly!

Add in the Argos, Jays and Raptors... God is really mad at us!

Pontius Pilate was a Leaf fan.

It's hard being a Leafs fan. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, no really I can. I'm with Fred on this one, they will squeak into the play-offs[remember in the Bettmen Hockey League, anything can happen] and be better than the Habs. It's always darker before the dawn.

The Leafs seem to get lots of shots on net. Can't score. Their defence seems to be weak at best. Goaltending average. Doesn't add up to a playoff berth this season. Next yr a couple of good free agents and maybe the playoffs.

Burrows seems like a 1st class whiner.

Sadly god MAY in fact hate the Leafs.

This year I put a lot of emphasis on Ron Wilson and blame Burke not for going after Kessel but for emptying the draft pick cupboard before there was someone who could be ready to lead the offense with him. Leaf fans learned that lesson the hard way when they received Tom Kurvers for a draft pick that was almost Eric Lindros and ended up being Scott Neidermeyer. The NHL does not allow for short cuts in team building anymore and without a pool of 5 to 10 NHL prospects who are a mix of blue chip and serviceable in 12 to 16 months it is impossible to succeed.

Being a Leafs fan is like being in an abusive relationship with someone you care about. There may be some good days, but at the end of it all, you know that it's not going to work out.

Habs update comes during Sunday's Homily/Sermon.

stats
NJ 65 pts goals 127, against 94...1st in the East
Montreal 48pts 119-126
Leafs 39 pts 125-164

And the Habs bitch about their goaltending-aka defence.

conclusion: Lou Lam is a f-en hockey genius.

The Leafs are still 9 points behind the Habs and don't have a chance in hell in making the playoffs again. The reason god picks on them so much is because their followers can't seem to seperate reality from fiction. The Leafs suck again and the Leaf sheep won't admit it! Admit they suck and won't make the playoffs again and that brian burke is not a saviour but more like the evangelist who keeps taking advantage of the dumb sheep.

Burke needs to be a miracle worker not a saviour.

Lo, and Jesus did enter unto the Air Canada Centre marketplace, and was sorely saddened by the multitude of scheming merchants clad in Hugo Boss and Canelli, slaves to the blackberry and bottom line. "Repent!" he called, but his cries were silenced by the ring tones and ca-ching of the registers, as the hollow-eyed masses emptied their souls and wallets to the false gods in blue and white.
"Verily", bemoaned Jesus, "these suckers are truly fucked." Amen.

Hey Fred, wasn't this around the time the Leafs were going to pass the Habs in the standings according to your prediction?
