More Stuff

I predicted before I left that there would be predictable response from the union regarding the sleeping TTC ticket taker. Don't you love it, the union boss actually blamed riders from not making sure the ticket taker was OK.
How insulting. I'm sure if there was indication the guy was doing anything but catching a few winks, they would have responded appropriately.

The threatened strike by teachers at Ontario's 24 community colleges once again raises the point of essential services. To me, teachers are near the top of the list, especially University and College teachers, because of the impact they have on so many lives.
If the college teachers walk out in mid-February, the lives of thousands of kids will be thrown into chaos. So many of them depend on summer jobs to make money to pay tuition and student loans, and if there school year is interrupted it could actually mean the end of school. Summer jobs could be lost if the school year in pushed back and if its lost, it could mean other expenses that a lot of kids can't absorb.
Teachers should not be allowed to strike by law; however short of that, you'd like to think they'd have enough class to consider students before their own exorbitant demands.

The offer on the table would mean a top-end salary of just over $102,000 a year.

That works out to $1,961.54 per WEEK!

And OPSEU says that is NOT good enough?!

Get a life, teachers; you spoiled BRATS!

Many of us would love just over 19-hundred bucks in our wallets... PER WEEK!

Essential Services is just a way of saying More Money. Whichever Public Union & Mgmt group: let 'em strike and then let them sit it out.
Windsor of all places let the garbage pile up for 15 summer weeks and Ottawa allowed the buses to sit throughout Christmas and their real winter. We need some of that resolve here, now, and within Queen's Park.

RU - you'd be pleased to know that after taxes it's probably only around 1300 bucks. Think of all the revenue the government would be bringing in to pay for your therapy!!

@CQ, As it turns out, the strike in Windsor could have been completely avoided had the city accepted CUPE's offer from the get go. Instead the city was divided by the mayor for 15 weeks only to have him give away the farm by agreeing to a contract that was well above what the union wanted in the frst place. The city will be paying millions of $ extra for years to come. Great resolve that.

Strikes suck and everyone blames Unions. Takes 2 eh.
BTW the City of Toronto won the garbage strike just as planned.

Did you catch Howard Moscoe on Oakley this morning? With the likes of that arrogant old horse's arse running the show in T.O., it's little wonder the TTC is a joke, and unions are in control. Add the news that the head of the TTC, Giambroni is second in the polls for mayor, and residents of this second-class city have little to look forward to.

To: Line of Sight. You couldn't be more wrong about The City of Windsor loosing on thwe CUPE strike. CUPE had to forfeit post retirement benefits which will save the city 10's of millions over the years to come. Unions in Windsor are done! Windsor is open for business with out the threat of some Union moron knocking on your door. P.S. I am a College teacher and cannot believe how useless OPSEU is. They just do not get it. Let us vote on the offer and no strike will be needed. I would love to de-cerify these clowns. imagine having some guy named "Smokey" in charge of your destiny. We certainly should not be allowed to strike!

Mikey... factor in all the paid days off; plus that OVERLY GENEROUS PRIME TWO MONTHS OFF IN THE SUMMERTIME; and that kinda balances out what's taken in taxes.

Oh; don't forget the "Dream Weaver" pension plan; which, even AFTER retiring, teachers can 'double-dip' into MY wallet by doing supply duties!

Works out to a helluva lot more than 13-hundred bucks a week as you claim.

Nothing whines like a school-teacher. Poor so-hard-done-by "servants," aren't they?

YOU need therapy; and some remedial math.

Steve 0 – I used to work for the Feds and PSAC was the union I was stuck with being in. A number of years ago the Feds made us a great offer, but the nimrods in union management said to vote against it. I was a union steward at the time and managed to rally my co-workers to vote against the union. Fortunately the majority of other members voted against the union as well and we got what WE wanted, not what the union wanted. I hope you have the same success.

RU proves once again his/her/it's ignorance. Teachers support their OWN pensions! Most teachers go to school on those so called prime months. If you don't like the money YOU make, get your BA, go to teachers college and be an equal. Or be ignorant and piss and moan about all the ones doing better than you. You are the biggest whiner on this Blog!

Alan Gee: I hear you loud and clear re PSAC. They'll go to court for a cause but for some reason lay down flat on a 2% raise. I suggested to a writer at the Globe that there is a story here but she said her bosses had to give her the ok. Not sure how they do it but the Treasury Board can 'control' the the Prez of one of Canada's largest Unions. Not just one Prez but 3 or 4.
