Doing What's Right

December 19, 2009 @ 10:38

I guess it's a tough day for all those bleeding heart Liberals who like to link Stephen Harper to George Bush Jr. and make him out to be some kind of a horrible beast.

Harper jumped into bed with Barack Obama in Copenhagen yesterday, and to that I say good on ya.

I've said all along that Stephen Harper is the "rational man" and he proved again over the past few days by not getting sucked into some damaging climate change deal with the world's flakiest countries.

Harper puts jobs, families, the economy and Canada's future ahead of questionable scientific reports about the world heading towards climatic disaster, and when you get right down to it, that's his job.

What can the bleeding hearts say now? Barrack Obama, the world's saviour who represents everything that's right and just in the world is on the same side as our Prime Minister.

The reasoning is simple. Because the countries that are pushing for extreme measures have the least to lose, and before anybody with half a brain jumps into that pool they better make bloody sure it makes sense.

That's why Obama and Harper have taken the route they have by reaching a compromised deal, and to some degree it's actually pushed things ahead faster. China and India jumped on board and will sign the deal.

There's still a long way to go, but It's a sensible beginning.

To quote you:

Harper jumped into bed with Barack Obama in Copenhagen yesterday . . .

Q. Why was Harper not invited to the table with the other world leaders? Why did Obama deliberately exclude Harper from a photo-op?
------

If you read Harper's and Prentice's statements, they say nothing new and make it sound as if the world came round to their point of view.

Q. Whose Kool-Aid have you been drinking?

Q. Do you read the Guardian or the Economist or do you just stick to what's available locally? Your thinking suggests the latter.

In the spirit of the season I say to you, "Bah, Humbug."

New York City, Philadelphia, Washington DC, all paralyzed by 40 centimeters/16 inches of SNOW and ice in an ironic twist as the climate "change" whine-fest wrapped up in Copenhagen. Snow!? Ice!? What... glo-BULL warming ain't real!? Ha! Climate-change (or whatever the Eco-worriers are calling this week) is just a scam to suck money from us taxpayers to prop up commie-despots in the 3rd world, who can't even keep their own backyard clean!

I can't believe I'm doing this.....but I agree with Fred on this one. Harper did do the right thing. This whole climate-gate thing is out of control. Listen to Coast to Coast AM and hear some real compelling information on the scam that is global warming.

Global warming is real but it's not man made. Temperature and weather pattern are changing over time. Always have and always will.

However, having said that, we still have to clean up our planet in a rational way. I am sure everybody on this blog would agree that the pollution is responsible for a lot of health issues (i.e. respiratory disease, some type of cancer, etc.) and if not kept under control it will kill us all sooner or later.

BTW Diane Francis, Editor at large for the National Post, brought up a good point. She advocates population control (i.e. 1 child only per family). It sounds harsh but if the population growth worldwide keeps going they way it has been we're all doomed

There is a great article in Macleans by Mark Steyn about all the opportunism and hocus pocus about the environment and in particular the feverish pitch around Copenhagen.

I can't find it online but if you can get your hands on the paper copy (Dec 11) its in there.

George Bush's motives were always purely personal and financial. His backers were in the oil business and munitions etc.
Harper, I think, has Canada's best interests at heart. No comparison there.

Following up on Bob B. We are in a catch 22. Less polution less jobs and people suffer. More jobs more pollution and more suffer. What do we do? Less children and cut back gradually sounds like a rational solution.
China will burn itself out in 10 yrs. Judging by the smog at the Olympics they can't last long in Bejing.

Re: Population control - I'm too lazy to look up the NP article mentioned right now, so maybe this has been addressed, but I have a couple of problems right off the bat.
1) Is it not generally understood that the wealthier the country is, the less children are born? In other words birthrates typically decline as GNP rises. That being the case, we'd basically be telling the poorer countries to put the brakes on reproducing. Kind of hard to tell people not to have more than one kid when that one kid's chance of survival is less than 50/50 to begin with.
2) I know there will be people who were only children that are going to disagree with me, but I think (generally) that growing up with a sibling is a huge benefit to one's social development. I'm not sure I want to see a society made up of "only children" exclusively.

El Torpedo,

Everything you said is true. You've provided 2 significant answers to the problem, however with the solutions come sacrifices (as you point out).

The point is that there is no easy solution. Especially, nothing as simple as changing all the light bulbs in your house to the fluorescent ones.

Mark Steyn!!! There's no one I enjoy reading more - except for Rex Murphy. They both cut through the crap and tell it like it is...

They once asked someone in the munitions field, what if there was big gov't money in pollution control and he said of course they'd be in there 'fighting' for those contracts.
As for things like light bulbs making a difference?. When the US had one of their energy crunches yrs ago, the speed limit was lowered in many states to 55mph on the highways. That reduced oil consumption by a huge margin.

The Canadian Press reports that President Obama "left the climate summit in Copenhagen early to get home before Washington was pounded by a record-breaking snowfall that dumped 60 centimetres of snow throughout the region."[5] The Examiner reported two days ago concerning the Copenhagen climate summit that "Leading up to the event, much of the United States was plunged into a deep freeze. Snow fell in Houston, Denver experienced temperatures 30 degrees below normal and 370 new record low temperatures were set or tied in a three day span across the United States. Not even the summit itself has been immune to the effect as a major snowstorm struck Copenhagen yesterday and temperatures plummeted. President Obama landed at the summit today amid snow falling. Denmark’s Meteorological Institute said that the nation may have its first white Christmas in 14 years."

Yea? Remember when everyone fell into bed over Y2K? A lot of hype that was, and over nothing. Climate change is a lot of nonsense too. Forget about Al Gore and David Suzuki and learn from the school of George Carlin:

What I don’t get (other than how we can have such an idiot for a president) is why would the Muslims even want this??? They have to know that it will only breed more anger towards them. The good news is this may be the straw that breaks the camels back to bring the U.S.A. back to a true United Country. I do feel so sorry for the poor souls that lost loved ones in 911, what a total slap in their face. I’m sorry.
