Sleep In Time For Rick Hodge

November 28, 2009 @ 01:48

Less than two years after leaving CHUM-FM, Rick Hodge was shown the door by Astral Media this week and yet another Toronto radio icon has been silenced.

This is so similar to my situation its scary, so I know what he must be going through.

I was lured to the same building back in 2003 and was gone within two years as well. I can only hope that Hodge got a similar parachute.

If you did Rick, try to enjoy the next three years while you wrestle with your new reality.

Here's a tip. I know you live near Barrie, so why don't you try to become a Program Director of one of the stations up there. Working with a good crew from the management side can be very rewarding and enjoyable at this point in your life.

Try it, you'll like it...... but know you'll never shake the on-air bug.

The city and the industry owe you a great deal of gratitude for more than three decades of exceptional entertainment.

Have followed Hodgy for years, I think he know his gig was up at Chum with the shuffle of the Roger Rick and Marilyn morning show.
Astral shuffled the deck and through out some talented folks over the last few months.

Going to miss the funnies show.

Didn't think he would last at his new gig. What a shame. I really liked Roger Rick and Marylyn at Chum. I don't think this Darren guy will last either. In my opinion he just doesn't fit in with Roger & Marylyn. I would like to by a fly on the wall in Roger's house. I am sure he has a few things to say about him (Darren)

CFRB has basically taken something that was good, blown it up and turned it into sh!t. When Rick came over with Bill it was the last good thing they did. AM640 should send a thank you card to CFRB and thank they for sending their listeners down the dial. No more surfing the dial for me, its now locked on 640.

This is why I listen to Satellite radio. You have your favorite channels you listen to, but you don't really get an attachment to the on air people. It's a joy to listen to XM without the mindless banter on earth bound radio. Sorry Fred, but the last good morning show in Toronto was Pete & Geets. You had your moments at CFNY.

Fred: Don't you see the
common denominator?
It has to be Howard!

Believe me Fred it's not as
big of a deal as you might think. I gave it a shot. It
didn't work for alot of different reasons. Crap happens.

I agree with the above post. Personally I cannot understand why you would not want to make an effort in this regard anyway. Only the other day, at work we had exactly the same conversation and came to a similar conclusion

I know this is going to sound a bit old fashioned but, I really like looking after my hearing and whilst I do agree with the preceding poster and I really hope I do not get shot down for stating this, but I think it is important to take all things in moderation.

I left radio 10 years ago under much the same circumstances. It's the nature of the beast, unfortunately.

The Roger, Rick and Marilyn show worked in specific because it WASN'T forced. It came about almost by accident... serendipity, really. The best ones always do... Howard and Robin, Pete and Geets, even Bob and Ray. It should come as no surprise that lightening seldom strikes twice.

There's a LOT out there besides radio, believe me!

I went away on a business trip and came back to NO RICK...I followed him to the new station. I think I will have to get Satellite Radio now as I am not keen on the R, D & M, new crew not as good. H & C are okay but still not the same I always felt that they should have given Rick more air time... going to miss him...
