Fred - Smitherman is the guy who botched e-health, so it's quite possible that he could do a worse job than Miller.
November 9, 2009 / 12:30
Well, I won't be voting for him and I disagree with you Fred - I think Tory should run, and if he does, he'll beat Smitherman to smithereens.
A vote for Smitherman is a vote for Miller as far as I'm concerned.

I think Tory would stand a chance against him. But that would be up to Tory. He failed to point out how bad McGuinty was, he couldn't do the same here.

Unfortunately, I only work in TO...if had the opportunity I'd vote for Tory...best person for the job

Go ahead Toronto and vote for this turd. Tory isn’t much better either. As Toronto heads towards hell in a hand basket, the 905 (my town anyway) looks a lot more attractive to prospective home buyers, which of course increases the value of my house.
Also, I remmeber when it used to be pride day, then it became pride weekend and now its pride week. Can’t wait until it becomes pride day – everyday!!!

Argie is amusing. 905 is great of you work in 905.
If you work in downtown 416 and lots of people do work in the hell in the hand basket village, then roll on down the highway, at 10mph. As for George , I think the GTA has grown up since the days it rejected a level headed intelligent guy like George Heslip. I am neither pro or nah Pride. It's a non issue in mine mind.

Tory will be interviewing Smitherman on his show today at about 5:30.
Probably worth listening.
November 9, 2009 / 18:46
Perhaps a candidate will adopt the "Denver Factor" as their platform and cancel Toronto as the host for the 2015 Pan Am games.
I read somewhere once that Tory had high approval ratings but folks didn't like the Tories.
Not a PC but I think John would be good for Toronto.

I miss the days where a drag queen and the guy who sang along to the drum machine at Bloor and Yonge challenged for the Mayor's seat.
When was that, anyways?
November 9, 2009 / 22:28
Here's the problem. Don't underestimate this guy. That don't call him Furious George on the inside of the Govt for a reason. My wife works with many who have had to deal with him and he is relentless is his pursuit of what he wants. Sure he has the politicians ability to avoid blame (see e-health) but it would have been really interesting to see how he would have dealt with the CUPE strike. Lots on the inside reckon he would have told them to stuff it...take the deal or keep walking the line. Something Miller was clearly incapable of.
It will be an interesting run especially if Tory gets involved but don't expect anyone to take an Anti-Pan Am games stance. The deal is done. Protest all you want but it won't go anywhere.

I am with Trish on this one. This guy will end up doing worse than Miller. Impossible you say??? Let's wait and see.

Brokeback Mountain comes to TO.
November 11, 2009 / 21:18
At first I wondered why he'd leave a place so appropriately named "QUEEN'S Park."
However, look at Toronto silly hall from above, and it does resemeble a torn, broken sphincter.
The sound of a Toronto fart... a whispering 'swish.'
The smell of a Toronto fart... sh*t, semen, and... vaseline.

After the fiasco with e-health costing over a BILLION dollars....how do people like this keep getting jobs?? How can he look in a mirror and think he is doing a good job??
If Toronto votes this guy in....I will move.
November 12, 2009 / 11:49
Rob Ford indicated he would run if John Tory didn’t. Either way, he should run – he would help turn this city around. Of course, only if he has support of the other right wing councilors.
November 13, 2009 / 12:24
I wouldn't vote for either Smitherman or Rob Ford. They both have anger management issues...

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game.
