November 7, 2009 / 16:17
No to the games!!!
November 7, 2009 / 16:19
Cancel!
November 7, 2009 / 16:22
When it is all over the taxpayer will still be holding the bill for millions... cancel them as soon as possible.
November 7, 2009 / 16:27
We're phucked.
November 7, 2009 / 16:37
Good for you Freddie! This is ridiculous and should be stopped.
November 7, 2009 / 17:05
Waste of money. This is an event no one cares about.
November 7, 2009 / 17:13
A sad day for all of us.
November 7, 2009 / 17:16
This has never been a yeah team pull together city and is less so with all the me first newcomers. Cancel the games.
November 7, 2009 / 17:24
I say no. They'll screw it up.
November 7, 2009 / 18:12
CANCEL
November 7, 2009 / 18:28
I am fine if they cancel the games. We still need a new stadium in Hamilton. Just like the one in Dallas (105,000 capacity) or alternately the new Wembley. (85,000 capacity) Both are perfect for CFL and NFL football.you could run a track meet too.
November 7, 2009 / 19:03
Like the idea of a big stadium....the NFL will come and the CFL will survive.,
November 7, 2009 / 20:07
We've got the games now. I don't see the point in a "cancel the games" campaign.
Since we're hosting them, we might as well join the party and ensure we do a kick ass job.
This survey is a little late to matter.
November 7, 2009 / 22:27
Time to wake up & dig up the hippies that derailed the expressways in Toronto.
Denver reneged on the 1976 winter Olympics.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Winter_Olympics#Host_selection
The only way the Pan Am Games can get 86'ed is by one of the candidates for mayor next year running on a platform to dump the games.
November 7, 2009 / 23:42
Keep up Toronto Mike. Denver dumped the games, why can't we?
November 7, 2009 / 23:56
Dump them!!!
November 8, 2009 / 01:20
Waste of time. Waste of money. Please cancel.
November 8, 2009 / 08:42
Light the Florch in some other country.
November 8, 2009 / 08:57
Second rate games for a second rate city. We don't need the games.
November 8, 2009 / 09:05
Toronto would never have the balls that Denver showed back in 70.
November 8, 2009 / 09:18
How do the people of Hamilton feel about this?
It's Toronto that is getting all of the attention in the media right now.
But all of the media will focus on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Track and Field events.
How will Hamilton feel about there new tag line "Hamilton: Toronto's Bitch"
November 8, 2009 / 09:23
Toronto would never cancel the games, it might hurt someones feelings and we would then need a National Inquiry to make us more sensitive in the future.
November 8, 2009 / 09:25
John Tory should run on a platform of cancelling the games during the next Mayoralty race.
November 8, 2009 / 09:34
The games will make money, I promise.
November 8, 2009 / 09:38
"Rick C in Oakville"
A National Inquiry!
Sorry No, Hurt feeling require.
Barbra Hall and her Human Rights Inquisition.
People of Hamilton ask yourself this question,
"How does it feel to be F**ked by Toronto yet again"
November 8, 2009 / 09:43
I just acquired the merchandising rights for the 2015 Pan American Games. I've ordered 2 million toques.
November 8, 2009 / 09:49
I'll supply the Cheetah!
November 8, 2009 / 09:54
Thumbs Down.
November 8, 2009 / 09:56
Waste of money and with the exception of Miller, McGuinty and a bunch of over the hill former Cdn athletes, no one cares about the Pan Am Games.
November 8, 2009 / 11:22
What a pathetic waste of time, money and effort. They will find a way to royally bang this whole thing in the pooch.
November 8, 2009 / 11:23
Im not a fan of wasting money on something as useless as the Pan Am games. Im all in for cancelling them, but if they won't be, I hope they will be smart enough to build venues big enough to host the Olympic bid. But then im against the Olympics as well.
Thumbs down!
November 8, 2009 / 12:16
They can be stopped. I agree with some above postings, this will be a solid issue in the next election municipal and provincial elections.
November 8, 2009 / 12:48
Interesting that the people were never asked about this committment.
November 8, 2009 / 15:12
They weren't asked because Miller and McGuinty wouldn't like the answer.
November 8, 2009 / 18:31
An absolute joke. But I guess it's fitting with the way things are run in T.O These days.
And just an FYI.....I am competing in the relay. I`ll be the fat one stealing the others energy bars and gatorade. Make sure you wave if you can somehow score tickets to this huge event.
November 8, 2009 / 19:33
I'm with you Freddie PP.
November 8, 2009 / 21:54
The unions are lickin' their lips.
November 8, 2009 / 22:41
I've had another thought....
"Toronto can be a World Class City on their own dime!"
November 9, 2009 / 08:49
Who's gonna go?
November 9, 2009 / 10:05
Referendum!!!!!
November 9, 2009 / 10:15
Smitherman is running for Mayor, he should deep six this thing or put it to the people.
November 9, 2009 / 10:28
I agree let the people vote on it. We have other problems in Toronto that need attention. The games won't get a rail link to the airport or LRT's to move our asses around. What we will get are promises. I've lived in Toronto all of my life and am tired of the promises. To say politicians in Toronto are full shit is an understatement.
November 9, 2009 / 11:26
PAM-AM? Who cares and who will go? CANCEL!!!
November 9, 2009 / 11:31
CANCEL, CANCEL CANCEL!!!!
November 9, 2009 / 11:55
Curious as to what this group would like to see come into southern ON...It seems that no one is in favour of the Pan-AM, Olympics, World Pride, Caribana etc...anything international seems to get the thumbs-down
November 9, 2009 / 12:21
Couldn't care less about the Pan Am Games. Know nothing about them except it's usually attended by second string athletes, and know one remembers anything about them afterwards.
That being said, I DID remember that Winnipeg had hosted them in the 90's. Apparently they ended up making a tidy profit. If we're stuck with these games, I don't see why we can't make the best of it and do the same as the Peg:
http://www.webcitation.org/5idspf7hA
November 9, 2009 / 12:24
Big difference. Winnipeg embraced the games because they would never expect anything bigger. Toronto is of another mindset.
November 9, 2009 / 12:29
Where does the start up money come from. Who supplies the money before the tickets are sold.
November 9, 2009 / 12:34
All three levels of government I guess.
November 9, 2009 / 12:38
Who keeps track?
November 9, 2009 / 12:56
Thanks but no thanks.
November 9, 2009 / 13:30
The Who Gives A Shit Games ... I won't buy a ticket for an event, nor will I watch it on TV. This will be buried in our taxes. If someone provided you with an invoice with your share of the cost, you'd probably flip out.
I do not think that they will be cancelled..this is Canada. Keep quiet and accept it.
November 9, 2009 / 13:48
Looks like Mayor Miller has his after mayor job???
November 9, 2009 / 13:49
Brings a little excitement to Toronto and Hamilton. Good thing. Bring on the games.
November 9, 2009 / 15:05
How sad. Something like this announcement should be welcomed by the populace, but we're so used to seeing these self-serving, bungling idiots in power screw absolutely everything up that they touch that our cynicism sucks any joy out of it. Here we have a premier that has taxed our province to death (and just wait until the HST hits), while pissing away billions on botched projects, along with the worst mayor in Toronto history that spends like a drunken sailor while posting billions in debt. And don't look for Smitherman to be any better. He set the stage for the eHealth debacle. Toronto's only hope is voting in John Tory, who might keep an eye on the inevitable waste, but with this city's track record, don't hold your breath...
November 9, 2009 / 19:57
Huh?
I send a comment about the Pan Am games (no profanity) that doesn't get posted, but a long-winded diatribe about the 407 does? Weak.
November 9, 2009 / 20:08
Okay, thanks for putting it up, but I did send it 4 hours ago.
November 9, 2009 / 23:24
Cancel the games. Nothing but a waste of money, while the infrastructure of the city is crumbling.
When are these fu.. politicians starting to wake up and fix what's needed.
November 10, 2009 / 15:06
I don't know - it's doesn't look good when a city, bids for, wins and then rejects these games, or any big event for that matter. It makes it look undecided, like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. All Toronto can do is take this as a challenge and put the money where its mouth is. Don't embarass us on the world stage.
November 10, 2009 / 15:16
The city of Toronto ceases to amaze me. As Toronto Mike stated we are stuck with these games now, why not embrace the games and do what it takes to show the world that Toronto not only has second rate sporting teams, but could also run a second rate sporting event second rate. Sorry to hear about those Leafs Freddie, but atleast they will finish with a lottery pick...lol wait sorry aboout that as I heard that Boston is looking forward to that pick...Go Habs Go...
November 10, 2009 / 16:08
Their right hand knows exactly what their left hand is doing. They're both in our pockets.
November 10, 2009 / 18:36
No to these silly little nothing games
November 10, 2009 / 19:07
Lets hope China doesn't take over Columbia by 2015.
We'd lose every event and our cocaine would be spiked with all kinds of horrifying sh*t.
November 10, 2009 / 22:01
Another waste of money by our dumb politicians. I'd like to say thank goodness, I live in Mississauga, but this debaucle is going to cost all of us around the GTA. I'd go to the games if there was an event in which David Miller was used as a shot put.
November 10, 2009 / 22:53
Fred I think you are being a little harsh, these are amateur athletes some of whom are looking to make their mark on the international stage and get noticed for a run at the olympics in a year in 2016. Youll be looking at a lot of new faces by then especially in swimming, you might actually see a big tourism boost that year because a lot of big profile summer olympic athletes start with that as a gauge for where they are at. I may reserve tickets that year to check out some of the swimming
