Finally Something

October 18, 2009 @ 18:53

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but don't you think its interesting that of all the things that the city of Toronto bids for, the one it captures is the 2014 World Pride Bash.

Toronto lost out on the 1996 and 2008 Olympics and the city is currently in what appears to be a losing battle to host the 2015 Pan American Games.

When it comes to events of this magnitude, Toronto is taken seriously, but never really taken for real, but when it comes to an event like the World Pride Bash, good old TO ramps to the top of the list.

Not that there's anything wrong with it. (Actually, I'm tired of the saying "not that there's anything wrong with it", but when it comes to the Gay community you have to say it to prevent yourself from being labeled a homophobic arshole.)

Anyway, I found reports out of St. Petersburg today quite amusing because those who were representing Toronto rode the same roller coaster of emotions that the Toronto Olympic Committee experienced while waiting for the Olympic decisions, only this time, we won.

Toronto knocked the livin' shit out Stockholm 77 votes to 61.

To be honest, I don't know what all of this means. I doubt it means a new stadium, a redeveloped waterfront or an athlete's village that will be used in the future to house the homeless, but it's something.

Estimates put the financial injection to the city at about 100 million dollars which makes the cost of ten million look like a pittance. Of course the problem here is that the ten million is real and will come from taxpayers, while the 100 million is a great big guess.

But again, it's something and Toronto is a city that likes to consider itself world class, and if it can't have events like the Olympics, what the hell, have something like the World Pride Bash.

Toronto does a bang up job with Gay Pride Week and I guess you could consider it to be the farm system of World Pride Bash, so now the big smoke has finally entered the big leagues of world class events.

Toronto's World Pride Committee will go after all levels of government for funding and you can't help but wonder what the tone of the backlash will be if somebody says no.

Ah, what the fuck, congrats to all involved, but in the words of my late father Big Dick Patterson, "keep your pecker in your pants."

I would rather see alternative lifestyle tourists come to town that the Pan Am games or the corrupt bunch form the Olympics.

Let the grinding begin.

Better my money go to this than to printing giant novelty cheques with the Conservative logo on them.

Oh, sorry, I guess that subject is taboo around here.

Don't get it. Never will get it. I'll be told I'm over-simplifying things but to me these Pride Celebrations boil down to celebrating one's sexual preference. "Yay! I'm a guy (or girl) who likes shagging other guys (or girls)! Let's celebrate!"
Wow. Who cares?

Yes yes very taboo Mikey, but funny point none the less. I find it interesting that this site has as much of the color red in it as it does, it probably should be painted Conservative blue.

World class this, world class that. I think in order to be considered world class you really have to stop using "that" term.
Talk about an inferiority complex.
The T-dot really has to stop worrying about what every other city thinks about them and get on with enjoying what they have.
Once Toronto figures it out, the rest of the world will to.

As for the world pride festival, I'll have to take a pass. I'm a strict vagitarian.

Congrats Toronto, you deserve it. I can't think of a gayer city than Toronto, really.

I was in San Fran a few years ago and it didn't seem as gay as Toronto - at least I didn't see any packers walking holding hands or kissing or tough looking softball players with theirrottweilers strolling the streets the way I do in the T-dot (do people still call it that?)

Anyway, I'm sure all levels of government will be supporting this in a big way as of course in this culture, size DOES matter. I've already informed my Conservative MP that if her party gives a dime to this 'event' they won't be getting my vote in the next election.

Wait a sec, doesn't Toronto already have the gay week thing going on already? Just what we needed, another festival of freaks!

And freddie, there IS something wrong with it!

I applaud the selection and will most likely hit downtown for the parade...unfortunately i have found "Pride week" to be more exclusive than inclusive...a lot of the parties and after parade events are geared to the gay and lesbian lifestyle...heteros are basically shut-out (perhaps on purpose?)unless you're partying with your gay or lesbian BFF...i just hope with the added promotions there are more "open" events that we all can enjoy regardles of sexual preference...

Argie - at least in this country you are allowed to go protest if you feel threatened by this. I'm sure you could also protest the Catholics Who Use Contraceptives parade.
As for Fred's blog, it is freedom of His Speech, not yours, I'd love to read your blog - especially since I don't know who the big 4 are.

Mikey
October 19, 2009 / 16:46

The big 4 are 4 groups of people Argie doesn't like (hates?) because they are different from him. If I had to guess who they were and what his reasons are, I'd have to say gays (abominations), Muslims (heathens), Jews (Christ killers), and then all other non-Christians are grouped together as the last of the 4 (their day of judgment will come).

"especially when you want to spew your own brand of hatred while standing behind the Lord.....

Exactly. I can see why Argie got himself all worked up into a lather at the thought of that gem going unpublished. Somehow I can't picture Christ walking around foaming at the mouth condemning the "packers" the way I imagine Argie does.

Argie
October 19, 2009 / 20:29

I have nothing against gay people. I happen to know a few who I actually like.

I have an issue at the way a city like Toronto gets all worked up over their "pride" week every year. Some gay people I know say they would never attend the parade ever because it only reinforces thestereotype that many people have of them. They find it embarrassing.

One of the best chiefs of police Toronto has ever Julian Fantino lost his job because he refused to dance along side these proud souls when asked by Mayor Miller.

Now all levels of govt will go out of their way to give to these events millions of taxpayers dollars - that's what I resent.

El Torpedo - As for Christ, he accepted everyone into his church but he also told all lost souls to sin no more. These fellas are still sinning so I dont think Christ would be partying with this crowd.

Mikey - I dont know if Bishop Lahay is guilty (do you?) but if he is it wont be surprising since the church at one time allowed gay men to be priest. Thankfully, now they weed out that type of person from priesthood. When you consider 75% of the abuse cases are against male teenagers, one can conclude, its a homosexual problem - not a Catholic priest problem. As well, the percentage of offending priests is still quite low when compared to teachers, hockey coaches and scout leaders. Look it up for yourself.

It's so sad how much hate and homophobia 50-year old balding white men have. Like you're not all jerking it to Brad Pitt and that kid from Twilight...fucking pathetic.

Argie
October 19, 2009 / 22:04

Mikey: You guessed wrong - muslims are not part of the big 4. They are criticized and rightly so. You're right on one of your guesses so you still need to come up with the other two.

Fred: I apologize for not being patient, however why do you have this mechanism in place? Toronto Mike allows anything and any word to be used (i.e. no filters), at least that's what he told us.

As for spewing hate, give me a break. You're sounding more like a whiny liberal with each post. When I see the word 'hate' or 'racist' being used, I know I have won the debate. I'm only giving you my honest opinion which is what I thought this blog was for. I guess I was wrong.

Toronto Mike
October 20, 2009 / 10:13

Argie, just to clarify...

Like Fred, I too have a list of words/expressions that will force a comment to be moderated. Fred maintains his list, I maintain mine.

Unill's comment is a perfect example of why we do that. Fred may choose to add "unlock iphone" to his banned words list.

El: Perhaps I do try to get some people going. Its obvious I got Mikey going. So much so, I actually feel sorry for him.

My point really is that the various levels of govt dont need to be funding this nonsense. It also doesn't need to be funding the Olympics or the flipping Pan Am games (does anyone here actually watch them on TV?).

JAMES
October 20, 2009 / 11:09

The only reason there is a pride is because of the income it generates for the city. Civic leaders march in the parade only for political favor. What bothers me about the whole thing is; if your not supportive of it you're against it. I just really don't car a hoot about it. I had a co-worker that is gay, she won't do the parade because of the circus it became. She was a great person to know. As T.E. Lawrence said when questioned about his sexual orientation "I have nothing against homosexuality, yet I find something distasteful about it" He wasn't gay. I think we need to worry about more pressing issue's then this.

Nigel Trousershrapnel
October 20, 2009 / 11:39

Any correlation between the gayness of Toronto and Argie residing there? History has shown that the biggest homophobes are usually the ones that are arrested in the washroom at some airport, cleaning some other guys pipe.
How did you put it Argie?
Size DOES matter.
See you at the parade!

Argie
October 20, 2009 / 13:44

Nigel: Why the hate towards me? Did I offend your people?

So no, you wont see me at the parade but I'm sure you'll do well there without me(and by 'well' I mean lots of action).

For the record I dont live in Toronto and I'm happy where I am.

No hate here.
Just a statement of fact.
To quote a frequent contributor to this blog

"When I see the word 'hate' or 'racist' being used, I know I have won the debate."

So I guess I win.
And if you mean the human race when you ask if you offend my people, then yes you do.

Right Uppercut
October 20, 2009 / 17:25

Rejection and/or disapproval of a certain 'lifestyle' is NOT a 'phobia' as the lib-lefties contend... but rather an OPINION!

Yes; there is something 'distasteful' about males inserting their urinary/reproductive organ into the cesspool of numerous other males.

Play in a sewer, no wonder they get sick.

Many scourges suffered by that community are self-induced. Parades et al will not change that fact. Nor will worshipping the act of sodomy.

Where's "Bread Not Circuses" on this colossal waste of taxpayers cash?

Or, perhaps... "Sustainance, Not Sodomy!"

Mikey
October 20, 2009 / 17:26

The comments from repressed homosexuals are absolutely hilarious. The reason you hate them so much and can't stand how they live is because you secretly want to live that way.

Just deal with it. Honestly, who cares?

Mikey
October 20, 2009 / 17:28

Argie - abortion doctors?

But not people who kill abortion doctors, obviously.

Right Uppercut
October 20, 2009 / 18:52

"Who cares?" Mikey...

Mothers and fathers who send their sons to boy scout camps; overnight school field trips, hockey camps, (or Maple Leaf Gardens, back in the day... look up the incidents involving some ushers, pal!), etc. Those mom's and dad's are... WHO CARES!

More than one person has taken their own life after being molested by trollers seeking little boys.

Or, had their life taken as shoe-shine boy Emmanual Jacques died at the hands of 3 sick, demented perverts in 1970s Toronto, who are either out on parole, or eligible for same.

If you deny that man-boy trolling is a serious problem... then your head is right up Pride's main target... your ass!

Who cares, indeed? Decent people do.

If you have to ask that question, Mikey... do some homework first.

Pointing out unpleasant facts by the way is NOT hate... just fact.

El Torpedo
October 21, 2009 / 10:05

Right Uppercut - I'm not a particular fan of these parades. Like I mentioned, I don't see why sexual preference needs to be celebrated, but your comment is just stupid. Yeah, there are sick, perverted child molesters out there. WTF does that have to do with this topic? Creeps who operate from a position of authority to molest kids, whether Scout Leaders, coaches or priests are the last people you'd expect to find going to a parade, you idiot. As for research, isn't it fairly well known by now that molester's are more likely to be friend or relative? How many incidents could you find in 10 minutes via google detailing a molestation at the hands of a married father, step-father or uncle vs. some random gay dude?

Nigel Trousershrapnel
October 21, 2009 / 12:26

Right Uppercut,
Predators are not exclusive to the Gay community, but I guess decent people like yourself need a target for their misguided rage. If world pride ain't your thing, good for you. Not particularly of interest to me either but unless they're coming to your house and crapping in your corn flakes, move on.

Now where did the bad man touch you........

Mikey
October 21, 2009 / 15:28

LOL @ Right Uppercut - who cares if consenting adults have sex with each other, not who cares if kids are abused.

All those incidents you mentioned, please provide proof that they were all carried out by homosexuals. I know you can't so don't bother, I'm just making a point.

Also, who cares if two men or two women want to kiss each other, or even have sex? If you really have that big a problem with it, just remember that the problem is yours, not theirs.

I encourage all of you to give this a read: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8772014

It's a short synopsis of a study conducted at the University of Georgia and published by the US National Institute of Health. Might give some insight into why you feel the way you do.

Also, I find it absolutely hilarious that you all (not all, but most here it seems) share the same views on homosexuality as Stalin, Mao, and Ahmadinejad...just saying.

Argie

I will give an 'A' for effort. I don't hate the light in the loafer crowd, nor do I you (actually isn't that really the same thing?). I'm just giving my honest opinion on a festival that I don't think my taxpaying funds should sponsor.

I've tried to be honest and respectful with you and Mikey but you both resort to the usual name calling. I am then forced to defend myself and come across as 'intolerant', 'hateful', 'homophobe' - these other liberal buzz words that people with tiny brains can only think of during a debate.

I usually read the content on websites ahead of I leave a opinion. If I have little or nothing to say of the information topic, I probably will not leave any feed-back. And I enjoy to read someone else’s advice on that post too. Because I often find both interesting and useful ideas from nice comments. I'd have posted “Good blog! Brilliant posts!” then I may be spamming your blog. I as well have got a blog site, the very first thing I'd personally do day-to-day once i signed up on my blog is look into responses to my posts and manually approve or reject these reviews. Keywordluv not merely brings you more commenters. It raises your position in search engines seeing as you’re not just on countless “dofollow blog lists” but additionally on a quite a few those “keywordluv lists”. Cheers, Fiona

Who in God's name reckoned creating a mosque at ground zero seemed to be sensible?
