It's like a communal thing at the trailer. You spend so much time around other peoples kids you start to feel like they're yours. Such is the case with Josh Bonchek and his brother Jordan. They very much different from each other, but very much the same when it comes to amusing us. Jordan is the laid back senstive type, while his little brother Josh is somewhat different. On Friday night just after they arrived, we found out that Josh had gone missing in a grocery store for a few minutes because he had decided to climb into an ice cube freezer. Check this out. When I mention "Mel", I'm referring to my daughter Melanie who absolutely adores this kid. Here's Jordan's reaction. As for other stuff at the trailer this weekend. A beautiful Friday afternoon turned into scotch by the fire on Friday night which turned into a cool and windy Saturday, which turned into a drive back to Brampton Saturday night to find a good Jamaican after hours party. Delyse and I enjoy random gun play. Category: The Trailer June 7, 2009 @ 11:10
If that's true, I won't go to another Argo game as long as these guys own em'. Of all the unpatriotic moves a couple of multi-millionaires could make this is it, and its got to cut right to the bone in Hamilton. After all these years, just when Hamilton can taste an NHL team, it could be a couple of Argo guys who prevent it from happening. How cruel. Although, to be honest, I've got to believe there's more to this story that meets the eye. Sokolowski and Cynamon aren't stupid. They've made some brilliant business moves over the past decade that have vaulted them into money heaven, so I can't believe they actually want to buy the Coyotes, who are really a dog, and keep them in a city that doesn't care about them. I've got the feeling that this might be Gary Bettman working behind scenes, continuing his personal battle with Jim Balsillie. Maybe Bettman has already come to the conclusion that another team in Southern Ontario is a formality and something he won't be able to prevent, so rather than fight it, he's decided to arrange it, meaning if it's going to happen he at least wants a say in who will own the club. It seems like the only logical explanation. The Argo guys appear to be way too smart to start throwing money at an NHL team in the desert, so they must have assurances that if they play the NHL's game and pretend they have every intention of keep the team in Phoenix, then eventually Bettman will give them the green light to move north. Ultimately that may be bad for the Hamilton because word is the Argo guys favour a new arena at Downsview, but it will be great news for long suffering hockey fans who can't afford to get anywhere near the ACC for a Leaf game. It's just another strange twist in a compelling story that should come to a head on Tuesday when a bankruptcy court in Phoenix decides which way this is going to go. Personally, I hope Balsillie gets it. I love his style in dealing with the little twerp Bettman who given his own way, would never entertain the idea of another team coming to the GTA. Right now he seems to be cornered like a rat and his only way out is to save face is for him to choose the owner who will inevitably bring another team to Southern Ontario. It all sucks and it all stinks and that's why I want Balsillie to win this battle and knock Bettman on his tight little ass. Category: Sports June 4, 2009 @ 12:46 CRTC won't regulate new media. It didn't register for a moment. When Delyse first said Jeff Laird my mind immediately jumped to his father Doug. Doug Laird died. That was much more conceivable, after all he was in his 70s. Healthy people often die in their 70's, I could get my mind around this. But then she said it again. Jeff had died. Jeff Laird my good trailer buddy. He was only 41 years old. Jeff is probably the most generous person I've ever known. This guy would do anything for you anytime anywhere. He also had connections - and those connections worked the benefit of everyone. If you needed something, Jeff could get it and if there was any way he could swing it, you could keep your wallet in your pocket. He was that kind of person. He got great pleasure from doing for others. I sit here this morning blown away by how quickly five years has passed - and how time can let memories slip away. For the first few months after Jeff died, I'd think about him often and get mad at what happened. 41 year old guys shouldn't die of heart attacks - if there's a god, how could he do this to someone who was so kind and generous, someone with a wife and young son. But as time passes you think about it less - and eventually you hardly think about it all and that's simply not fair to someone like Jeff Laird. He was much too special to be forgotten. And that's why I write about him today. Jeff wasn't a celebrity, in fact he didn't like attention at all, but I didn't want today to pass without acknowledging this guy in some way. It's only my goofy little website - and most of the readers of this site never got the pleasure of meeting Jeff Laird - but at least the site allows me to put Jeff's name out there. It allows me to make sure that on this fifth anniversary of his death, he is remembered. He will not be forgotten. Category: Friends The Trailer - Week Four - May 29-31 June 2, 2009 @ 08:10
If you listen to the audio clips that I post on CanadianThinker.com you know that I do a "hit" with Neil Morrison in Vancouver every Friday afternoon. Neil does the mid-days at CFOX in Vancouver but most of your probably remember him as Brother Bill who used to do afternoons on the Edge during the latter Humble and Fred years. Neil is getting up there. He's pushing 40 but he's about to get himself married. He met a wonderful woman in Vancouver named Gabrielle and they're getting "hitched up" on June 26th out on the left coast. I'm thrilled for Neil because I never thought he'd get married. Hell, I never thought he'd get laid, so this comes as a pleasant surprise to all of us who love him. And that's a lot of people. Because of his ties to the east (Neil grew up in Brampton) he came back for a stag weekend with a lot of his personal, radio and record company buddies. On Saturday afternoon we golfed at a despicable little cow pasture in Norwood called Oakland Greens Golf and Country Club and then we went back to Scott Carmichael's impressive cottage on Stoney Lake which isn't far from the tin palace. Scott has created quite a place on the lake. It includes a wonderful main cottage, and a so-called "barn" that acts as a practice studio for bands. It's freakin' awesome. Scott's cottage was the location of a Molson Canadian Private Party a few years a back. I saw the fire pit where the Chilie Peppers entertained a few dozen people. It was a great day with some great friends and we finished it off with some great food and booze. Here's a picture I love. Me with some of my favourite people. At some time or another we all worked at CFNY together. From left to right. Martin Streek, Big shot record guy Ivar Hamilton, Q-107 marketing Director Darren Wasylyk, Mineself, Neil Morrison and Edge creative and production manager Rob Johnston.

As I've said many times before, the best part of the trailer is the people. We've made some fabulous friends over the years and among those friends are children.
According to documents recently revealed surrounding the shit storm in Phoenix, the NHL claims that Argo owners Howard Sokolowski and David Cynamon are among the groups who are interested in buying the Coyotes and keeping them in Arizona.
Stags and guy hugs and kisses. (The boys were on remote so the sound is a bit weird.)
It was five years ago today that we got the call. My wife came into the back yard in tears with the horrible news that our friend Jeff had died.
This weekend at the trailer wasn't really a weekend at the trailer. It was more a weekend with some good old buddies on a golf course near the trailer.
