So let's get this straight, one of the scumbags responsible for the murder of Jane Creba is found guilty of second degree murder, is sentenced as an adult and gets a life sentence, but he could be back on the streets in less than four years?

Are you kidding me? What the hell is wrong with this country?

Forget all the bullshit that led up to this, because it doesn't matter now. What matters is this, and it should piss off every decent citizen of Canada - Jane Creba will never get a second chance, but Jorrell Simpson-Rowe will.

This brazen little turd was only 17 when he decided to fire a gun on a crowded Yonge Street on Boxing Day 2005 and to many a bleeding heart his age at the time should have played a part in his sentencing... but thank goodness it didn't.

From a courtroom standpoint justice was only partially served. JSR as they call this waste of air was convicted as an adult, which is good, but in this whacked out system we have a life sentence turns into parole eligibility after seven years, and that's pathetic.

He's already served three years and four months, so it means he could be out in less than four years.

Granted, given his history, his attitude and his total disregard for human life, there's a good chance that JSR won't make parole in 2014 but it's the principle that bothers me.

How do we allow this? How are Canadians supposed to have faith in their justice system when little pukes like this get to walk after seven short years? Hell, it's been almost four years since Creba was shot to death but it seems like yesterday.

I hate to make sports analogy in a situation like this, but it's something that keeps coming back to mind whenever I read about this story. How the world got the short end of a very bad trade on December 26th, 2005.

During a gun battle between a group of thugs who aren't worth a kennel of dogs, we lost Jane Creba but got to keep the likes of Jorrell Simpson-Rowe.

Jane Creba would be 19 years old now and as a contributing member of society, at her own expense, would probably be finishing her first or second year of university.

But she's dead.

JSR meanwhile, if he chooses to, can now pursue a university education in prison - at your expense.

Yea, it's a great system.

Fred, its a mystery why scumbags dont get longer prison sentences. If its a life sentence then they get no parole, period, end of story. If they get parole after 7 years then call it what it is....a seven year sentence. Any murder should be a life sentence because the girls life he took would have definitely gone longer than 7 years....Makes you wonder if judges are paid off by prosecutors.

Lock him up and send him back to Afghanistan whit Omar Khadr. both of these clowns are an embarrassment to all Canadians. Especially to the folks who have moved here and made Canada thier new home.

Why did it take 3 plus years to bring J.S.R. to justice?

When will the issue of these young thugs be dealt with?They have free reign on the city. Truly sad.

Wy is this even an issue? Because all the very VOCAL bleeding hearts complained so long to the various Liberal governments until they succeeded in watering down the justice system. They have a wierd sense of reformation rather than punishment when dealing with criminals. Maybe their parents didn't love them enough.

Along the same lines, isn't there an amendment coming from Harper where time served will not be counted toward the sentence imposed? Or did I get my news wrong?

Hi,
I would just like to point out that just because Jorell SImpson-Rowe will be eligible for parole after 3-4 yours, does not mean that he will be GRANTED parole. I mean, you have to admit it is VERY UNLIKELY that he will be granted parole, not after the unspeakable crime he committed- so rest assured, scum like him will not be released among us any time soon.

Oh, and another thing: Simpson-Rowe is not a Mexican- wherever did you hear that?!! He is Canadian, born and bred here, so it is extremely strange you'd say he should be "deported."

You know how we constantly hear Davey Miller and his pinko hearts crying about our gun problem and thinking the solution is a ban on handguns. What we need is a ban on the turds that use them. JSR and his ilk - anyone who uses a gun in ANY crime should be banned from society for a minimum 20 years - no chance for parole.

I fully agree with Devin but would like to add on one more thing.

Whenever scum bags like this guy have a parole hearing the poor victims family has to go through the whole tragedy again by submitting a new impact statement. Not to mention the stress they have to endure not knowing whether some weak a*hole parole board will grant the scum bag parole.

As said before, if the sentence is life then the only way these guys should leave the prison is in a pine box. That is my definition of life sentence.

I'd like to see what percentage of criminals are 'reformed'. I bet overall it's a waste of taxpayer money. Better to do everyone a favour, society, the victims' families and the criminals' families and use the 15 cent solution. Bring back the death penalty.
