Fun With Water Cannons

April 30, 2009 @ 08:12

The Tamil protest went over the line yesterday. Police had to deal with a mob that broke through a barrier and in the end were forced to make 21 arrests.

Ain't that just freakin' wonderful. Several Toronto police officers went to work yesterday and literally had to put their safety on the line for something going on half way around the world.

Is it just me, or is that beyond ridiculous?

A mob of Tamils who live in Toronto are pissed off at something going on in Sri Lanka so it becomes the problem of Metro Police. Somebody slap me upside the head so I can wake up from this disgusting dream.

Why should one cop suffer so much as a scratch because of something going on in a country that hasn't known peace in a quarter century? With so many other things going on in the city, why should our police force have to spend one second dealing with a pack of assholes who are probably professional protesters.

And don't kid yourself, a good measure of the creeps on University are there for nothing more than the fun of it right now. The novelty of it. Getting a rush from the attention. And not one of them seems to care that they're blocking easy access to three hospitals.

Well enough is enough.

Yesterday I was reluctant to say it but today I have no problem. Bring in the water cannons and literally spray the bastards back to wherever they came from.

If they were born in Sri Lanka, deport them. If they were born in Canada, jail them.

But I've got to tell ya, the over-riding thing that keeps coming to my mind is David Miller, the spineless weasel of a Mayor who the left side of Toronto voted into office not once, but twice.

Where the hell is he and what is he going to do about it?

This guy is unbelievable. Not only is he running the city into the ground through bad management, but he doesn't have the balls to step into a crisis like this because he's deathly afraid to deal with the ethnic aspect of it.

He's chickin' shit and this in just another indication of what a stroker he is. He and his buddy Police Chief Bill Blair should be ashamed of themselves.

Blair especially for letting this candy ass Mayor drag the reputation of his force through the mud. I imagine all the cops who have been placed on duty during this protest are embarrassed that they can't flex the muscle necessary and end this stupid bloody thing once and for all.

But you can bet the pansy Mayor has given strict orders to hold off because he doesn't want the Tamils to accuse him or the police force of racism.

Who gives shit? It's gone way beyond that now. We all know it's the expected and presumed reaction of ethnic groups in Canada. If you don't get your way, use the "R" word. We all know it's going to happen anyway, so hook up the hoses, turn on the taps and start blastin'.

What should piss off most Canadians is the double standard here. I made the point yesterday, if this was a protest involving Joe Whiteguy it would have been over long ago, no doubt about it.

I don't know about you, but that drives me nuts.

Think about it! For the past four days protesters have shut down University Ave. to protest something going on in Sri Lanka, and every day they've become a little more disobedient and every day Mayor Miller has done nothing.

Never allow anyone who comes from another country to refer to themselves as second class citizens because they aren't.

We are.

Here here !!! Well said.

PLEASE go back to your own country and use all your energy to make changes THERE, not fruitless, resource-wasting protests HERE.

Perfectly said Fred!

Right on Fred about the protesters. And bang on about our gutless useless Mayor. Actually I should say your mayor. I've got Hazel!! Lucky me.

Fred,

Don't you live and work in Peterborough now? Why do you care what goes on in T.O.?

I thought you were from Brampton? Why should you give a rat's about T.O.?

Hmm.

Well, this has gone from bad to worse. CUPE is now joining the protest.

What, have they run out of taxpayers to terrorize so now they have to move onto international political issues? Not quite sure about the connection of CUPE to this protest. Oh hang on, most government jobs are filled by recent immigrants to Canada. No doubt a large segment of this group of low-lifes are government employees. This group must be represented by CUPE!!!! That explains why the phones are NEVER answered when I call a government service. I should simply bring my forms and cheque book down to University Avenue to have it processed.

Thank you CUPE for alerting me to how I can get stuff done through a government agency. You have finally demonstrated some value to your existence.

Brilliant Fred! And did you know these protestors who don't seem to have jobs, have been using Campbell House as their toilet? They are sh*tting and p*ssing all over a Toronto historical landmark, part of OUR culture, OUR heritage. Can you imagine if the shoe were on the other foot and Joe Whiteguy desecrated one of their buildings...

Well said Fred. I think it's time this was ended.

I'm using my race card. I'm tired of being bumped into and sneered at , at the local mall. Some people walk around with Redwoods on their shoulders.

Why don't they protest at the airport? They've already hijacked the airport limousine. service.

Excellent topic Fred. If I had to leave my country in order to seek a better life for me and my family, or because my life was in danger because of the idealogy of whomever was running the government, or just because it sucked living there, I wouldn't care what was happening once I left. I would be in a new country, making a new life for myself. If these people are so f--king concerned about Sri Lanka, they should go back and solve the problem and then stay there. It's not our problem, nor that of the U.S. whom will be damned if they do help out and damned if they don't anyway.

Then call me a racist. I don't give a shit. You can call me a racist as we bounce some rubber bullets toward the protesters. There's only one way to deal with a mob.

And Alex P. You're an idiot if you can't see the principle Fred is writing about. It's bleeding heart ostriches like you who give permission to every whining and sniveling special interest group the sense of entitlement that they have. You are part of the problem.

A friend tells me a Sri Lankan [Tamil or Sinhalese-same thing] is buying up Parry Sound. They come here as refugees, report no money, get welfare support, when the dust clears they transfer over MILLIONS.
Canada=sucker. Not just Lankans doing that. Pick a country and it happens. Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Afghans, Somalia, Sudan....few others.

Jay

So one Sri Lankan is buying Parry Sound?

AlexP
April 30, 2009 / 17:12

IanS,

My point is that I think Fred is a hypocrite.

Fred's point was that if you leave country (or city) A to live in country (or city) B (for whatever reason, work perhaps, like Fred had to do) then you have no right to bitch about what happens "back home". Huh?

I think that's BS and clearly, Fred is a hypocrite in this case. Of course you have a right to show concern for what's happening back home, like Fred is with this posting.

But I haven't agreed with the protests or said it was ok to block traffic - that's BS too and should have been dealt with on day 1; hour 1 in fact.

IanS
April 30, 2009 / 18:36

Alex P, Thanks for clarifying. I understand your point. I don't pretend to speak for Fred, but as I read it, he doesn't care about protests etc., just the issue of the illeagal activity, the lack of political will, and the handcuffing of the police from doing their job, or even needing to do their jobs in the first place.

Comparing the demonstrations to Fred posting his views on a blog is a real stretch, regardless if he lives in Toronto or not. Really a red herring when compared to the protesters actions, and then screaming the R word.

That's what she tells me.
Somewhat like some woman in Niagara on the lake.

Freddie P.
April 30, 2009 / 19:39

Hey Alex P.

I would suggest this is a little different.. this isn't a Brampton, Toronto, Peterborough thing... it's a Canadian thing.

Its happening in my country because of something that is going on in another country.

I'm surprised I would have to explain this. Everybody else seems to "get it."

Fred P.

Good point lastwordlinda.

If they're so concerned about their country whyd didn't they stay and try to change things in the first place.

Of course, it's a lot easier to abandon their country and then expect other countries to get involved to solve their bloody mess.

My message to them is simple: If you're so concerned go back to your old country and fight for the cause. If you stay here: shut up and be happy to be here.

Fred,
The only sane response to all of this brouhaha is to oust his Blondness. Where can we find a qualified opponent? Do you know an unemployed, one armed, Chinese single mom who would like the job?

Friend of mine works at Scarb Grace Hospital. She calls the Tamils rude and will actually spit on a Hospital floor. They crowd a double room and annoy the other patient. Demand an audience with Doctors all the time.

IanS

Patty, I can sympathize, but I ask why all the pandering? Have hospital security enforce the 2 visitor maximum. I know the answer, but it's not the right one.

Well. Welcome to Canada. Freedom of speech and expression. Don't like it? YOU leave. And please stop using the "safety of police" as your crutch for hatred of others.

I've had it with Canada. Subsidized housing, free medical care, food banks, welfare, subsized babysitting.
You are all a bunch of rednecks. Watching football, hockey, baseball. Cricket is the game mon. Jiminy , get it right. COLD weather.
Goodbye and blah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IanS
May 1, 2009 / 19:33

Blunt, Freedom of Speech? Ever try to yell fire in a packed theatre? I wouldn't suggest using Freedom of Speech as your defense. It won't get you far.

The protesters were blocking a major thoroughfare including access to hospitals. They ignored the direction of the Police. When the Police were finally allowed to exercise their authority, the whiners played the race card. Fuck 'em.

If you want to escape poverty, political repression, or just make a better life for yourself, then come on in. But if you chose Canada as your haven, then you better respect the institutions that the country was built on or don't bother to unpack your bags.

No one will tell me to leave my own country, especially a weak-kneed, guilt-ridden, appologist lefty like you. Everyone has the right to be dumb and stupid, and you used both yours up in your post above.

Ian S. said:

"Ever try to yell fire in a packed theatre? I wouldn't suggest using Freedom of Speech as your defense. It won't get you far."

Stupid, archaic anology as a means to dispell freedom of speech. Thanks, Stalin.

"The protesters were blocking a major thoroughfare including access to hospitals."

B.S. The US consulate is just north of Queen W. Blocks from hospitals that are to the North of Dundas W. Also, University Ave. is 3 lanes wide both north and south. You're alarmist diatribe makes it sound as though it were a side street.

"But if you chose Canada as your haven, then you better respect the institutions that the country was built on.."

Which is freedom of expression and the right to protest. Let that sink in a while.

"No one will tell me to leave my own country,"

Then don't feel that you have the same right to tell others do so when those who have a right to protest do just that.

"....especially a weak-kneed, guilt-ridden, appologist lefty like you."

You forgot 'Commie-pinko', Rush.

"Everyone has the right to be dumb and stupid, and you used both yours up in your post above."

So, according to you, I am both 'dumb and stupid' because I love that anyone, who is a citizen of this country, can freely express themselves and organize a protest against their government (or other governments' consulates on our soil) that they feel are doing very little to curb genocide in one country but support illegal and bullshit wars, predicated on lies, in both Iraq and Afganistan?

I'm glad to have been both 'dumb and stupid' then.
I still say that you should leave this country if you feel that no one has those or should not have those rights. And that is my right to tell you so.

Name-call all you want. Your argument is baseless. Especially when you cite absurd things as an argument against freedom of expression as 'yelling fire in a crowded theatre' or 'ambulance access'. How inane.

IanS
May 2, 2009 / 18:19

Blunt (or should I call you Anthony?), Inane? Absurd? Bullshit? Rush? Stalin? Who's the name caller now?

You arguments don't hold water. They are ill thought out, and without merit. If you truly believe that non-peaceful demonstrations should be allowed and that it's alright for "guest" to this country can freely call the police racist for simply ensuring the public peace, then you are dumber than I thought.

All so-called rights are tempered by law. No one has total freedom to do as they wish, nor should they. And those "rights" are only good so far as the government of the day allows. Your anarchist views harken back to the days of hippie communes. So go ahead, have another dube, and maybe it'll all become clear to you in a moment of clarity. Imbicile.

TO think that I served this country so that the likes of you can abuse and cause abuse. My bad.
