Blame The White Guy

February 27, 2009 @ 08:52

What a shame. What a shame that following yesterday's shocking acquittal of two accused murderers, this is what comes of it.

A year ago 18-year-old Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim was killed and five others wounded in a brazen shooting at a housing complex in the city's west end.

Although captured on video, yesterday the crown determined there wasn't enough evidence to go forward with the trial, so the accused, Owen Anthony Smith and Wendell Damian Cuff were set free.

The video failed to supply positive identification, but more importantly, the five wounded men refused to come forward with any information so the prosecution was screwed.

The whole thing came back to a growing problem in Toronto, the refusal of victims to "snitch" fearing backlash.

Unfortunately, there are those who choose to take it in a completely different direction.

You can understand the disraught family of the murder victim lashing out and blaming everyone and everything for what happened, but there are no excuses for the words of Osman Ali, head of the Somali Canadian Association yesterday.

He took the race route

"What's another black Somali who's been killed?" he asked as others nodded. "We feel it would have been handled in a different way if he was a white Canadian."

How the hell can this become a race issue? The video failed to provide positive identification and five eye witnesses refused to speak. What could anyone in the "white" community have done differently without eye witnesses?

Ali went on to say this. "It's more painful when the justice system fails you than when the criminals do," he said.

What?

Police used a couple of "tips" and made lightning quick arrests in the case, but to nail it down they needed eye witnesses, and even though they had five, in the end they had none.

The justice system didn't fail Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim, his five buddies failed him.

Police are convinced with the help of just one of the five wounded this could have been a no brainer, open and shut.

But instead facing the facts, Osman Ali prefers to take a wild turn and run it up the over-used, broken down and heavily abused racism road.

And frankly, as a white Canadian I'm offended.

It's quite easy to determine how the cops with a video of the trigger man on cctv cameras can't make an arrest.

No one in the community wants to come forward and be associated with the popo. The fear these thugs have on certain communities is disgusting.

Fred don't you know in Canada it's always whitie's fault. As Stafford would say "it is time for an apology".

Amen Fred!

if these gangstats want to kill each other - fine. Just as long as innocent people aren't caught in the crossfire. Perhaps we can offer these criminals target shooting lessons for free to ensure they always hit their intended target.

In this case, this was a planned hit and thankfully no one else was killed.

Race card gets a bit tiring.

You know we laugh when one of Tony Sopranos men scare a witness and when we see a gangster movie and a witness has temporary amnesia.

What do we have now?

Dangerous small time punks, cowardly gang members with guns and a desire to use them.

Usually you stand up to a bully they run but these fools don't as they have weapons.

The video crime footage just shows a wacko firing bullets. And that wacko is still out there somewhere.

In BC lately thugs have taken over communities.

And it's not just disposible gangters shooting other gangsters now.

The Police feel Cuff and Smith are guilty and won't pursue other suspects.
The boys are free and I'm sure their mother's are proud of these too fine young innocent lads.

Hope they don't get caught by Pirates.

Blame Canada, yeah that's the ticket.

The recent outcome just amplifies the grief of this poor family. This was their son shot in cold blood by some cheap lowlife thug. And a reminder of it with the release of suspects.
Displaced anger is quite common.

What are you talking about?

The guy who screamed racism wasn't a family memmber, he was some arshole from the Canadian Somali Association.

Everyone has the right to be wrong and stupid and this Osman Ali guy has used up both his in one shot.

Gene is right. He's just some arsehole who wants a bit of fame and recognition paid for by some dead kid he'd probably never met before. He's taking the easy route by blaming whitey instead of pointing the finger at the perps and his own community (who is really to blame).

Ali is as much a coward as the punk who pulled the trigger.

Mayor Miller: all this killin, will stop, when our gun laws kick in!

The Somali community should spend their energy convincing the five witnesses to testify against the shooter instead of blaming the cops, the government, the white man and the justice system. Frankly if it was a white person shot infront of white witnesses someone would have testified.

Let's hope all lawful gun owners have alibis. Gutless Miller needs someone to blame.

Come on, we all know what the solution to gun crime: more rec centres, basketball courts and more afric-centred schools.

I would like to be the first to officially say I am sorry. I'm sorry I am white. I'm sorry the colour of my skin is so important to some people. I am sorry that I have apparently let so many people down by not fixing their problems for them. I'm sorry I didn't do more, or less or whatever it was I was supposed to do. I am sorry.

Nobody invited Ali to live here: if he feels as though he's discriminated against, or for that matter, his people, then he's welcome to pack up and get the F*CK out of Canada.

Look at the facts, Ali: There wasn't enough evidence, and there weren't enough facts. And please, f*ck off and get over yourself.

I think we are all tired of minorities wanting to be minorities. Get with the program or return to your 'civilized' nations.

Irvine

White people get handled different than brown folk?

You mean like how the media put so much emphasis on Jane Creba, a
pretty middle class white girl that was killed in Toronto? Anyone
remember the brown folk killed in a drive by while attending a funeral
?

You know Fred, the part where YOUR industry focuses on the death of
middle class white folks because it sells. A pretty white girl that
gets shot at the Eaton's center is no less tragic than a fat ugly brown
girl getting shot.

Just one sells more papers/brings in more ratings than the other

So maybe that's why they feel so pissed ? You remind me of an American
Bush voter. You can't seem to understand why the rest of the world
thought he was a tool. I'd love for you to be a minority for a while
man..but the closest thing you'll get to a minority is having a double
burrito at Taco Bell

PS. No need for your drones on this site to flame me. But it's sure
fun watching them get all "hot and angry" over what I write

If the Samalis think it sucks here then they should go back to Samalia...simple.
Goodbye

This is all the more reason law abiding citizens should be armed.

Kurt writes: "Mayor Miller: all this killin, will stop, when our gun laws kick in!"

I hope you are kidding.
If not you are a fool if you think miller's gun ban is gonna stop thes idiots from getting guns.

Steve Brown
March 1, 2009 / 16:25

Irvine, you're right I don,t remember brown folks getting shot when there was a drive by at a funeral home. I do remember an incident were a gang banger was shot by another gang banger when attending a funeral for another gang banger. Refresh my memory about the drive by.

It's funny how people bring up Miller's gun ban ideas with skepticism, but tougher sentences aren't going to stop them either. It's just another purely ideological way of seeing the issue. Harper's "tough on crime" rhetoric isn't going to make the streets safer. You need an aggressive multi-pronged approach but these two seem to repeat a single mantra over and over again.

Tougher sentences motivates others to take the place of the one who was imprisoned, ultimately continuing the spiral of violence. Gun bans are meaningless given the black market.

Why is Creating a Mosque at Ground Zero really permitted to come about? I have never heard something so completely silly in all of my life. If this by chance arrives at reality, It might be the hardest situation ever. yvette
