Please explain to me how capping the salary of an executive begging for a Government handout is a bad thing?
Please explain how Obama raised gas prices in his two weeks in office.
Bush was in office for 9 months when 9/11 took place and it was Clinton's fault. Obama is in office for two weeks and the rise in gas is his fault.
Obama is not perfect. I don't agree with some of the stimulus package. He is not "the one" or a saviour. He has picked a few wrong people for his cabinet. That is all true. However, he is attempting to get the US back from a pretty dismal period. Instead of hating everything he does why not offer better solutions?

Andrew: I actually agree with YOUR post. You correctly point out Obama's slip ups and don't blindly go along the sheep who look at him as the savior and as 'the perfect prez'.
Fiscally, I would like to wait and see before I start attacking him. Just as I don't blame Bush for the downturn in the US economy I won't blame Obama for the continuing downturn nor will I blame him for the slight increase in gas.
What I will attack him on are his horrendous social policies re: the rights of the unborn. I won't go into them again as I'm sure most of the sheep that frequent this blog couldn't care less about the rights of a fetus (whether it be 8 weeks or 8 months old),

We share the same stance on the rights of a fetus (to some extent). I don't agree with abortions (especially after 8 weeks) and I do think there should be laws to prevent them used a birth control.

I can't believe how polarized the politics in the US is. Best example was the mess in voting in Florida during presidential race in 2000. The hatred that spews from Hannity, Limbaugh and other radio/tv commentators is quickly disturbing. Andrew, my solutions?? Why are they bailing out these floundering companies and their inept CEO's. Let em sink!! That's what capatalism is all about. I am sure also if you look at what is in the stimulus package you would shake your head at some of the freebees given out(pardon the pun) but millions of dollars are being given to prop up the bee industry and that's just one that I know about.

I am actually not a supporter of giving out freebies to bail out companies. However, I know that if they all sink the havoc it would cause would cripple the economy and makes things far worse than they are now. I don't have a better solution. I wish I did.

Speyside Phil,Andrew; I read with interest your posts and do agree on a number of points, however if you were to look a little more closely at this "stimulus" pkg. you would see some of the miss leading and down right lies as to how this will be applied.There is over 400 billion going to outreach programs ie ACORN. This will not stimulate anything, the first trillion in bail out money is now out there and no-one knows where it is or how it was spent" that is just criminal" You are right in saying that if a company is in financial trouble because of bad management and miss use of funds it should be allowed to fail.The thing to realize is it will not just disappear the assets will be sold off and an investor or group of investors will pick it up rehire some people and start making widgets again. I would dearly love to see Frank Stronak buy up Chrysler and make a real go of it, (that would stop a lot of the naysayers), and it would truly a Canadian Co. All in all I will watch to see what happens with this stimulus pkg. I really hope it does not affect us too much in a negative way.....Steve

Ask anyone that has no medical insurance in Canada and must rely on the tiered system that we now have. OHIP no longer covers a whole whack of things that now to be paid by insurance or out-of-pocket by the patient.
Not sure what reality you speak of, but it's not most people's reality.

What everyone in the US needs to get their heads around is that they're all in deep. Left or Right wing. Anybody that is politically polarized be it thinking Obama is the saviour, or thinking he is the anti-christ are in for a cold dose of reality... he's neither. The country got into this mess as a whole, it'll only get out of it as a whole.

by someone not affected by what's happening. I disagree with your take
on this, Fred, and I have been with the "loving you" for years. It is
absolutely your right to disagree. But I admit I am disappointed at
your falling back on that word. I frankly expected and hoped better

I have always spoken highly of Canada (except for the socialized
medicine--6 months for an MRI is absurd and don't tell me it doesn't
happen). I have NEVER used that word to describe Canadians. You might

Andrew: First of all, I do not accept 'talking points' from ANYONE.
We don't know each other, so I couldn't expect you to know that. I
guess you'll just have to trust me (or not). Like Fred, I claim the
title "independent thinker".
I will explain: Capping a salary for those particular CEO's is not, on
the surface, a bad thing. I cannot and will not defend their atrocious
management. Where it becomes a problem is that this is the first step
for those who wish to control income levels and salaries and
redistribute wealth. You've heard the term 'slippery slope' and this
is how the slide begins. After the public accepts this, they will
accept more, little by little, until they no longer have control and
will HAVE to accept it, because the government is too big to stop.
As for gas prices, Obama and his party have made it very clear that
they would like higher gas prices so people will be FORCED to drive
less. Whether he is actively pursuing that right now or not, the
perception is what is giving the oil companies the excuse to raise
prices, which had PLUMMETED in the past 6 months of the Bush
administration, which, admittedly, did little about it. You can call
it coincidence, but the timing is very suspect.
September 11th WAS Clinton's fault, because he had MANY chances to have
Bin Laden on a platter and refused to do it, because he was too busy
getting a hummer under his desk from a fat chick. I don't have time to
list all the literature on this subject, but it's very clear who failed
the American people in that regard, and it wasn't GWB.
I am pleased, however, that you don't agree with the so-called
"stimulus package", which is really only stimulating if you are among
those poor people who voted for Obama and supported his agenda. To
those of us who work for a living, it's appalling and contains FAR too
much pork and virtually no job creation or actual stimulus of any kind.
Congress does the pork thing better than anyone and it's a load of crap
one both sides.
I could offer a myriad of better solutions, but I do not have the gift
of a mesmerist such as Obama. He's much better at telling people what
they WANT to hear rather than the actual truth. (Again, politicians in
general do that, but few are better than he is)
And with all the people he is appointing (not to mention his VP), what
is Obama's term if not "Clinton III".
Change my ass.
Finally, I'm sorry if I think socialism--straight up socialism--is a
bad idea. I guess my 'ignorant' mind is clouded by the fact that it
has not worked ANYWHERE in the world and to try it here would ruin not
just this country, but all of North America in the fallout.

HOW TO FIX THE ECONOMY... without burdening the hard-working taxpayer with deficits that WILL HAVE TO EVENTUALLY BE PAID BACK... and the interest clock is running!
Do nothing. No bailouts; no massive big-liberal-government programs, (hiding under the guise of 'stimulating packages!') Yeah, that 'package' is only going to screw the taxpayer up a canal that was designed for elimination only.
Simply wait. While people are JUSTIFIABLY sitting on their savings right now,(despite the looney braying of those who say, 'spend-spend-spend!'), items will wear out.
Items such as appliances, vehicles, TV sets, you name it.
When that happens... demand will rise, and people will buy again... pumping money into the economy in a natural manner, (without any gov't spending of tax-dollars and the resulting deficits).
For example; the auto fat-cats; who due to mis-management (and fat union contracts) should be culled out. Let 'em go broke.
When the demand rises for vehicles again... a new, lean and well-run company will spring up. "Evolution" as applied to the economic sector.
And the best part is... the TAXPAYER doesn't get hit with massive deficits that their kids and grandkids are going to have to pay back down the road.

Gas prices (like oil prices) tend to run parallel but not always. The price of gas and oil on the spot/futures market is set by traders. These "markets" exist in the USA and outside the USA. A little difficult for Bush to rig prices. Lately, the spot price of gas has increase about 25 cents. That means prices at the pump. If Bush was into oil, why has the price fallen 70% in the past year ?
Now I know I'll hear about Bush and his oil buddies. What none of you seem to grasp is that EIGHTY percent of the worlds oil industry is..GOVERNMENT OWNED. Mexico, Venezuela, Russia, most of the middle east. How can Mr Bush have influence on them? So we're left with 20% of the oil industry. Shell is a Dutch controlled company. BP? Oops, British Petroleum, head office? London UK. Another large Free Market player ? Petro Canada. Guess where they are from? So how does Bush have control of the oil industry when almost all of it IS NOT AMERICAN.
Thirdly. The US imports 70% of it's oil. Each time it buys imported oil, it gets a barrel and sends money elsewhere. Let me quote Boone Pickens "It will be the largest transfer of wealth out of the US in the history of mankind". Wow, seems odd the president would want to send 700 billion USD out of the country every year. And if you find those numbers questionable, they're the words of Boone Pickens. He's 80, he's from Texas, and is the greatest oilman in the history of America. He BUILT the industry.
So again, clarify how Obama and Bush have this control

Staunch capitalists are having difficulty comprehending the fact that unfettered capitalism is not perfect and can be a serious detriment to society. Devout communists struggled with this realization themselves with respect to their own ideology. In the United States, ideological beliefs have become as precious to people as their religious beliefs, so the retreat of the whore known as the unregulated free market will not happen over night.

Argie - please provide proof of your claims. Fine, I'll just inform you of the truth. The top 3 countries in the world in terms of suicide rates are former Soviet republics. That's right, countries that moved from communism (not socialism) to capitalism. Also, just to make sure you get the point, Venezuela has a suicide rate less than half that of Canada or the United States. You'll also find your claims about abortion and euthanasia are simply not true.

Really. Now then, you'll have to explain as to why Mr. Pickens is championing wind farms and has been since early 2007? Google that one. Anyway....
It isn't odd at all that $700 billion leaves (you used "sends" - weird word) the US each year and that this is happening as you cite that 70% of the 21 million barrels per day that US consumes in oil is imported. Where else would that money go but to those that are supplying the product that are not in the US? What do you suggest, that the money stay in the US and that the US get the oil for free?

Now from my experience a 700 mb movie (avi) which I download from the net will transalte to 4 GB (iso) on a DVD.
I have recntly downloaded a 60 epsiod anime with each episode EXACTLy 232 mb large.
If I convert it to iso I would need something like 13 DVDs.
I want to know :
a) Can I compress the resultant iso file to fit more than just 2 episodes (iso format) on 1 DVD without much loss in quality ?
