The Rational Man

January 27, 2009 @ 19:29

As for the budget, I don't know what to say.

The Conservatives were forced into by the whack job threat of a coalition, so they were forced to do some things probably didn't want to do.

But that's politics.

We should kiss the ground that Stephen Harper walks on because his compromise has probably saved us from a coalition that features separatists and socialists.

I fully expect Michael Ignatieff to support the budget because he it's really the only thing to do.

Ignatieff has probably spent lots of time considering the consequences of sharing power with Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe and being of sound mind and body has decided to side with the rational man.

Not only that, but I'm sure he likes the idea of letting the Conservatives govern during a deep recession.

He can blame it all on them.

We should kiss the ground he walks on??? Are you crazy??? We weren't even going to have a budget if it weren't for a threat of a coalition.

The coalition threat and only that threat made Harper seem half-human. Fred...you are completely brainwashed by a man that has no idea what he is doing. How quickly you forget....he was about to do NOTHING!!!!

Sammi: I try not to attack anyones political beliefs because I belive that eveyone has a right to their own opinion, BUT! Your comment is quite one dimensional. Could you imagine how stong this country would be if Mr. Harper had a Majority. We would come out of a recession with no debt. And be stronger because of it. We would be running with a surplus, but no, we have to cater to the like of a dead beat leader like Layton, Dion and Deuceppe.
These guys think that the taxpayer should fund everything. I truly feel bad for people who loose thier jobs, I really do, but shame on them for not even trying to learn something new on free time. Shame on them for thinking that thier Union would protect them. Shame on them for asking the government to help them keep there over priced jobs!

I work in the Mining Industry up north and we are getting hit just as hard as the auto industry, but I have taken the time to learn other jobs so if laid off I have something to fall back on.
And all the while the Mining Giants of Ontario have not asked for 1 red cent of government funds....EVER!

We would be better off with a two party system with a massive Conservitive Majority. Your grand children would thank you for it!
Mr. Harper knows exacly what hes doing!

Well put; Big J!

Nice focus on personal responsibility by learning other jobs in case the mining industry goes in the tank.

Count on yourself... not the silly-ass-socialists-separtist lefties to support you.

We need MORE good ol' fashioned conservative values to bring Canada back to her glory days! A Harper Majority is the way to go!

Big J. The tooth fairy will leave you a loony under your pillow tonight. What is a stong? Are you getting enough oxygen way down in the mines? What are you going to do way up there if you lose your job? Chop down trees? Pump gas? Run a resort? Bush guide? Build Log cabins. Teach at the University? Good luck!

Big J...Curious as to how you think Harper would pay off 500,000,000,000 (that is 500 BILLION) dollars of debt if the coalition did not force him into deficit?

Sammi
January 28, 2009 / 07:48

By the way, Big J, I never affiliate myself with any political party. I merely stated that Harper was about to do absolutely NOTHING when it came to the economy. He wasn't even going to have a budget. How out of touch is he?? He was forced into doing something only because of a threat of a coaliton. For the record...I hate the coalition idea.

A mojority government for Harper would be the worst thing for this country. He won the election by default....there was no-one else to vote for. He couldn't even defeat Layton and Dion.

And Fred....to suggest kissing the ground he walks on shows how blind you are to what this guy really is.

January 28, 2009 / 07:49

How the hell do you pay off debt by borrowing MORE money?????????? Do you realize what a deficit is? they are going to spend much more than they take in. Let me know how that goes for you when you try it at home. I'm not nearly the Harper fan Fred is (A little over the top Fred!) but until Ignatief does something i'm going to have to support the conservatives. I don't think a deficit is a good idea but the Liberals would have went much farther and put us much farther into the hole.

Ok We now have a sort of plan to get out of this recession (thats what the media is calling it), But just remember a couple of things; You cannot spend you're out of a recession or debt, Bob the socialist Rae tried it here in Ontario were still paying for it,the middle class do not create jobs and Margret Thacher once said" socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money.....Steve

All you brainiacs that write on this blog, help me here.

I thought throwing money at the auto industry to build cars that will sit in the parking lot, nuts.

I thought eliminate the GST for a year, get people to pull their wallets out and spend would be a better idea.

Any good?

January 28, 2009 / 11:25

I am not sure about this budget.
Giving tax breaks for people to spend more money that they don't have is not a great solution.

I am curious to see the Liberal reply. If they offer other solutions perhaps the Conservatives will use them. If they refect without solutions then they are just being stupid.

We shall see.

The usual Liberal, Socialist diatribe has invaded the pages of Freddie P.
This is a Liberal Budget you idiots so go crawl back in the hole and enjoy the next few months. If Ignatieff doesn't like it then call a bloody election and quit whining.
Harper is the only true leader in this country.

I'm 50/50 on this budget.

I really like the injection of $12 billon for infrastructure funding. It's much needed in the province of Ontario.

I think Harper really missed on the EI front however. Instead of an increase of five weeks he should have added on two or three months. The job climate today makes it almost impossible to find a job in five extra weeks. Many people have paid into EI for decades and now that they need it they either don't qualify or only receive it for a limited time. That should have changed

With this unprecedented economic crisis people need jobs now not tax cuts. Having a job will get people spending again not tax cuts. I guess he needed to throw a bone to his neocon base after dropping a Trudeau budget yesterday.

I wonder what Stephen Harper would say about this Budget if he was still President of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation?

Let's face it, if Harper was a real leader he'd stick to his principles.

How amny years ago someone in Ontario deleted the PST for cars and the auto industry sold 1000's.
Only an idea.

Good article Mike - thanks for the link.
There is an active industry generating billions of dollars that is still sucking money from the taxpayers and putting the profits into thugs pockets - would now be a good time to legalize pot?

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

It's difficult to take Pastor Terry Jones too seriously, not least because of that unfortunate resemblance to The Beverly Hillbillies' Jed Clampett!

It is likely that if you buy Replica Leather Handbags, you can not use the same controls to be made for a pair of jeans or a shirt. If so, probably, the factors you look at their shape, color and the way that suits your needs. Strangely, will probably not mean much in spite of its size and shape, the really important aspects to be considered.

It is no surprise that the leather is actually the kind of Womens Handbags Wholesale that is very popular with women. The evidence shows that since we can see many designs leather handbags for women are available on the market, and those items are very good for the buyer. The market has become very competitive because of the accessories for women and, consequently, consumers can enjoy the selection of all sorts of variety to the leather bag at a reasonable price. While there are plenty of leather design for women, many still choose to use leather handbags, brand, because they would have this luxury and expensive way to make them a good quality accessories and their whole personality and appearance can improve to believe.
