The sorrow of Amandeep

It's hard to believe that Canada can leave itself open to "Neanderthal Marriage."

What blows me away, is that in 2009 there is still anyone on the face of this earth that doesn't think an arranged marriage is anything but disgusting, immoral and oppressive.

Screw culture and screw religion, the rights and well being of any young woman on this globe should trump it all.

Dowrys - give me a big freakin' colossal break.

Not only should the father-in-law be charged with murder, so should her parents.

Arranged marriage is completely revolting, and tragic. It is an affront to human dignity.

The Star did a series on the joys of arranged marriage last month. Apparently, those of us who marry for love don't know what we're missing.

There is so much about this story that is repugnant - extortion, abuse, murder. It is cultural barbarism directed at women and until changes are made in our immigration procedures, and laws, nothing will change. Rest in peace, Amandeep.

Sharia law, aboriginal law and arranged marriages should not be allowed in Canada. One people, one law.

Arragned marriages: A disgusting and unfair practice that has absolutely no place in a nation as progressive as Canada.

That's all that needs to be said, I think.

Did anyone see the picture of Amandeep's so called husband. This marriage had to be arranged, doughboy could'nt score in Amsterdam with a trunk full of money.

This is the same culture where parents readily abort their fetus simply based on the fact it’s a female.

There are towns in India where 90% of the youth are male. CBC did a doc on this about a year ago. Scary culture it is.

On St elsewhere, a TV show from years gone by there was an episode where an India doctor had an arranged marriage set up and it fell through. Everyone was walking on eggs around him. He finally broke the ice by saying, 'no big deal, she was one ugly braod'.

They call it Casts, we call it Class.

Similarities.

Sid, I haven't seen any arranged marriages in a class society and certainly no "honour" killings nor "dowery" killings. Not even remotely the same thing.
