Fred, your assessment of Vancouver’s expectations of Mats Sundin is spiteful towards Sundin, but more important to me, it is insulting to the great Canuck fans of this province.
I’m not too fond of Swedish captains, having had Naslund for much too long, but we never expect one player to win a cup for us, like the expectations you had for Sundin. Most, if not all the sportscasts I’ve listened to are very responsible with the expectations we have for Sundin. He will take pressure off the Sedin twins, who are a great second line, but cannot be the first line that will take us to the Promised Land. He will help a power play that is streaky and give us two scoring lines which we have not had in about four years. We have arguably the best shut-down line in hockey, our defence is formidable and our goalie is as good as it can get. We still have cap space to add what we need and Sundin didn’t cost us a player, and if it doesn’t work out, we all go home happy at the end of the year.
I’m not saying the cup is coming to Vancouver, but to say that we aren’t any closer to it then we were yesterday is just plain sour grapes on your part, getting in the way of any hockey sense you may have.
PS. Please have the Leaf fans look up Trevor Linden’s stats, the amount of cups he won as our captain, and then take a look at how he was treated by the fans and media of this province last week, let alone all the years previous, and for a real heart breaker, after the last whistle blew at the end of last year’s final game. The Leafs may have the most fans in the country, but we are the best.

Linden didn't screw the Canucks like Sundin did the Leafs.

Believe me Lew, Sundin will only frustrate you.
