How many higher draft picks have Detroit and NJ had over the Leafs over the past decade or so? It doesn’t matter if you draft high if you can’t develop talent.
For the first time since Ballard, I like the Leafs – because of Burke and because of the team that it has iced since the beginning of the year. Win Fred win; Burke will pull off a deal at the draft table and it will be more lucrative if he is dealing winners.
Remember, Wellwood was and still is labeled a loser by TO, and here he is in Vancouver, a bit player who has as many goals as anyone on the Leafs today – claimed off waivers – just the flip side of losing.

We still have Antropov and Ponikorovksi. With these to loafers we will lose plenty of games.But to want your team to lose to improve your draft choices is stupidity.
