Perhaps the bigger question is..are we doing more harm than good by providing laptops, the internet and consumerism to cultures that may be better off without?

John B hit it right on the head. They're hedging on the possibility that some of these god-forsaken hell holes will some day turn it around, and actually become customers. Shameful. And the patched-together "message" from Lennon is grotesque. Sorry to be so cynical, but what these people need is food, clean water, and medicines. That doesn't pay off, though.

Your missing the point of the project if you think it's about having kids surf the net et al. Read the mission statement and check out the site if you so choose:

When my wife did a stint with the UN in Ethiopia a few years ago for Polio prevention, she left her old run down laptop behind with a teacher in a small town. They have since put it to good use.
