Stempniak?

November 24, 2008 @ 20:47

Carlo Colaiacovo and Alex Steen will be added to an excruciatingly long list of Toronto Maple Leaf draft choices that never panned out, and the crazy thing is, like another excruciatingly long list of Maple Leaf draft picks, they could very well have great careers playing somewhere else.

But having said that, ironically, I would have much preferred the Leafs trade Coaiacovo and Steen for draft choices rather than Lee Stempniak.

Every so often, even the Leafs get lucky in the draft.

Don't ask me to analyze this trade because I have no goddamn idea what to think.

Colaiacova is always injured and Alex Steen plays like the might as well be injured. In order for the Blues to take these two guys off the Leafs hands, there must be major issues with Lee Stempniak.

Why do Owen Nolan and Mark Bell come to mind?

**I remember back to the spring of 2001. The Humble and Fred Show had just made the move to MOJO Radio and Carlo Colaicovo had just been drafted by the Leafs.

Carlo and his dad made the trek to the MOJO studios one morning for a feel good interview about being drafted by the Leafs.

Could that have been the highlight of Carlo's Maple Leaf career?**

Have faith Freddie,

The Leafs are making room in their salary cap for one or two higher cost players. Bowmeister comes to mind.

Wait and see.

Faith? haha. What move has Leaf management made in the last 15 years that gives you any reason to have faith in them?

With Stempniak's salary increase next year there is no cap savings so that rules out your strategy on making room for other signings.

This seems to be more a last ditch statement by a GM who's glory days are numbered. As soon as Burke became available a few weeks ago MLSE should have put a hold on any movement. This whole thing looks pretty disfunctional to me.

Hey Freddie.

I remember that interview...turned out Carlo's dad was a Habs fan.

But he was a nice man...even though he did like the "dirty rotten Habs".

hope all is well in P town.

Two potential young stars for this??? Maybe one for one. Now if it had been the two tall useless cans I would understand (Antropov & Ponikorovski). Man it's tough being a Leaf Fan.

I think this was a good trade. What did we really loose?? Steen? Most of the time he was useless. He may have tried hard but the results sure didn't show it.

I liked Colaiacovo. But unfortunately, to be good he had to play his style, which is very physical which his body obviously couldn't take.
Bottom line, if he couldn't play his style he wasn't effective.

Either way no big loss. Let's see what the new kid in town has to offer.

Stempniak has hands and drives hard to the net, something this team could use and Wilson wants more players to do. He's only 25 and had 27 goals 2 years ago. He has upside and that's what the Leafs are looking for. Plus no team will give you much in the way of draft picks for carlo or steen. I don't think the Leafs could have done any better.

Hey Murph,

Don't forget that the cap will probably go up again next year thus providing the savings and allowing for a bigger name. Plus it also doesn't rule out bringing in someone this year and letting someone else go during the off season. You have to look at all the angles.

I don't know anything more than any other layman but I suspect that BB will make make Phil Esposito aka trader Phil look lazy.
And all to sell programs.

Outstanding! Ahmadinejad did us a big favor! Each of us desperately delude our own selves into considering this person (and people who applaud him) are fit to get thought of as respectable persons, he spits in our face to remind us that individuals are (yet again) fooling ourself.

Awesome! By the way, did you hear that San Antonio Spurs fresh center Tiago Splitter hasn't participated in a preseason game as a result of a strained calf and there is no cause to imagine he will be playing in any regular-season games in the near future, either.

I just received a courtesy Replicas Designer Handbags today. I love this bag for its cuteness, and impudence. The size is definitely on the small side at first, but in reality it can take a good part of their daily needs. The material of this bag is made of heavy nylon fabric (the benefits of this material is its strength, and durability, resistant to weathering such as rain).

This is obtaining a bit much more subjective, but I a lot prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has far more flair, and some cool functions like 'Mixview' that let you speedily see associated albums, songs, or other users connected to what you're listening to. Clicking on 1 of those will center on that item, and one more set of "neighbors" will appear into view, allowing you to navigate close to exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" can be good fun, letting you discover other people with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created depending on an amalgamation of what all your good friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy are going to be relieved to learn you can avoid the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so select.
