Wilson Nails It

September 5, 2008 @ 08:34

Yea, he sure did.

When Ron Wilson opened up to reporters yesterday, he had the balls to say what so many others have been afraid to say - Mats Sundin was not a very good leader.

Wilson used a little diplomacy by generalizing, but the message was clear, a lot of what was wrong with the Maple Leafs over the past three of four years can rest on the shoulders of the captain who should have never been captain.

If you read this blog often, you know how I feel about Mats Sundin, in fact you're probably tired of hearing it. But here it goes again.

Mats Sundin is a marvelous hockey player, but he's not a captain, he didn't mean nearly as much to the Leafs as too many give him credit for, and this franchise will take giant leap forward if he decides to retire or play elsewhere.

That's not to say they will make the playoffs, or even have a winning season. It means they'll turn a corner and head in a different direction which they desperately need to do.

The Mats Sundin era should be over, and hopefully, what Ron Wilson said yesterday will put the final nail in the coffin.

Come on Fred, he was referring to some of the veterens who didn't pull their weight last year, al a Tucker, McCabe, Blake, Antropov, the list could go on & on. But to question Mat's leadership when player after player including Sittler, Gilmour and Clark and even players on other teams say what a great leader he is (was) is ridiculous.

I heard Bill Waters on Derringer this am say NY Rangers are trying to unload Gomez to sign Sundin. In my view Gomez is an excellent hockey player and in his prime. Maybe if Leafs are serious about playoffs they should get him. Or are they serious about Tavares and last place?

If Watters made that claim, bet against it.
That windbag couldn't predict rain in a hurricane.

Steve....you took the words right out of my mouth. Watters is increasingly showing how much of a windbag he is.

On another note....Wilson is going to be a good coach here!

Greg Brady is dragging Watters down. It really is hard to listen to that guy.

I read the article that was linked. Blowing third period leads I agree was a lack of leadership, but the coach not the captain.
Watching Detroit in the playoffs. Well coached and disiplined. And of course talented.

Replace the Sundin name with Naslund and it is the exact same assessment here in Vancouver. This is exactly why Canada is a winner when it comes to hockey, we get it. Other than Lidstrom and Salming I’ve never seen a Swede understand the commitment difference required between the regular NHL schedule and the grind of the playoffs. The Rangers have Naslund, let them have Sundin and let’s move on already.

I have enjoyed your blog for a while and finally decided to step up and say you are right about the Leafs. They need team leaders and an authoritative coach to instill discipline in these pro's that believe they are entitled to their fame and notoriety instead of working for it. Calling a player out is not disrespecting them its called making them accountable. Happens in business everyday. No player is bigger then a team or a sport. Oh, except that TOOL that plays for the Bengals - Chad "Ocho Stinkfist" Johnson. Whatever....
Happy to see you are back in the game Fred.

Blow Hard Billy was being a major apoligist for Sundin today when asked about his stalling to sign or hit the road. He said a player of Mats caliber had every right to play this along, to the maximum time his contract allows, but while Mats is fiddling, his bridges (and the respect from the fans) is burning away.

If your a leader you would have made the decison by now, clear and concise.

Bill Watter's cohost, Greg Brady (is that his real name???) is a complete tool. He is so annoying. Even his contrived name is crap.

Freddie, weren't you up for the job with Watters? How did Brady get it and you didn't? That's phucked.

Come on guys, give me a break. I have a new girlfriend/wife who needs my attention. Why should I care about the people who paid my salary all these years?

As for Greg Brady, fire him and let his sister, Marsha take his spot.

Erecting a Mosque at Ground Zero has to really be the silliest plan in the history of man, I honestly assume it's maliciously calculated, at best, to insight controversy. I'm not really a conspiracy theorist but yet it is either shameful or hateful, conceivably both together. veronica

Why is Constructing a Mosque at Ground Zero indeed being allowed to come about? I have never heard anything at all so 100 % strange in all my life. If this at any time comes to reality, It will likely be the scariest thing ever. aisha

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Well guys, Lindsay Lohan has returned to her former ways….Lindsay Lohan admitted to screwing up a court-ordered substance test last week. She tweeted this: “This was certainly a setback in my position nevertheless I am taking responsibility for my activities and I’m happy to face the consequences.” Which means, maybe just putting her in prison for fourteen days and treatment for even less wasn’t a great idea!

Lindsay Lohan Moves to Rehab Today. If this is not just her working to evade prison then it is definitely foolish! She actually is gonna go to prison for at least 30 days despite who the judge is. Undoubtedly in LA this means 6-8 days!

Lindsay Lohan Will Go to Rehabilitation Today,. it happens to be simply a ploy to reduce the jail time therefore, the judge shall be lax with her. Cushy rehabilitate is sooo much better than imprisonment, it's possible that the judge don't give her any incarceration considering that he will be so happy!

It looks like Barack obama may perhaps be wasting his time refuting Ahmadinejad considering a large number of American’s had been lumping Ahmadinejad as a group under the same classification with Barack obama—however , if Barack obama might be accepted, and you never know in cases like this, I guess right here is one instance in which Obama won't blame Bush.
