Where's The Mayor

August 14, 2008 @ 09:15

If we needed any more proof of the useless waste of time that David Miller is, the aftermath of the propane explosion in Downsview says it all.

Talk about a lack of leadership.

It's bad enough that the city is crumbling around him while he leads a dysfunctional council that has a twisted sense of priority, but his lack of leadership through Sunday's disaster is downright shocking.

Where has he been, and what is he doing?

It's at times like this that a mayor has to step forward and lead the way, even if a good measure of it is window dressing.

The people of the affected are have to feel like the man who leads their city actually cares about their plight and is working overtime to make sure they're looked after.

Much like Rudy Giuliani did during 9/11.

This should be a piece of cake for Miller. He should be in that neighbourhood every day, talking to the people and reassuring them the city will do all it can to get their lives back to normal. It's a chance to shine.

But so far, he's done nothing.

He's blurted a few words about "not laying blame", but that was more designed to cover his own ass as it was to be fair and rational through a difficult time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. David Miller is not only bad for Toronto, he's downright dangerous.

His politics, attitude and personality are the last thing Toronto needs at this point in its history.

He's got to be stopped and the people of Toronto should investigate any and all legal ways to have him removed before his mandate ends in three excruciatingly long years.

He's too busy wasting everyone's money on more bike lanes that we don't need.

A lot of people may not like Rob Ford for whatever reasons but the facts are he cares about his constituents and the City of Toronto. There is a meeting being held tonight for the people affected by the explosion. Yes Rob Ford will be there and no it is not his constituency. In fact every councillor should attend this meeting as well as Miller, but I bet you wont find them anywhere near this meeting. It's an embrassment!!!

First time Toronto elected him, fine, the electorate made a mistake, it happens, but Toronto re-elected him... and they'll re-elect him again.

You get what you vote for, and unfortunately I have no sympathy.

Hazel in Mississauga dealt with a train derailment in the 70s. Almost the whole city was evacuated. She shined as a mayor and partly because of that she's still in office today. Miller is no McCallion.

Re: comment from Phil (the other one)

I would agree except the other choices, Jane Pitfield and Stephen LeDrew, seemed to be even worse choices. Thank God the city, then the province, rejected John Tory. That was close....

Jamie, you've got to be kidding.
John Tory would have been fabulous for the province and even better for the city.
He's a businessman who didn't the mayoralty race because of Toronto's socialist mentality, and the lost the province for having the audacity to propose something that made complete sense as long as the Catholic school board exists in Ontario.
In the end, his motive was too intelligent for the blind Liberals of this province.

Jamie, see this is the problem. Its always the answer... "the others were worse". After Miller's first term, someone shoudl have been put in his place. How can you say John Tory would have been worse? Nobody has given him a chance.

Bang on Fred. The headlines should be screaming "Where is David Miller"? I can't believe they're not. David Miller should be there front and centre. He should be demanding that the province, the feds or whomever, rezone the area immediately and prevent Sunlight from ever opening again. He is a disgrace to Toronto which makes me all that much happier that I moved to Mississauga two years ago.

Miller (and his butt-kissing inner circle) are the worst thing to happen to Toronto in generations. Get used to it. The idiot voters will bring him back for another term, guaranteed.

I heard someone from the City on the news last night that they would pay to remove asbestos if it was on city property, but I guess if it's on your own property you're SOL. I agree, where's the leadership? Where's the compassion? I hope the residents get more than they deserve as compensation, but the city, the province, the TSAA and Superior Propane should pay, and pay bigtime. Would love to see Freddie's views on this on Channel 11. You go Freddie P!

Miller still thinks that Toronto is only Bloor West
Village-where he lives.
I heard Rob Ford on Oakley this morning. He addressed the issue and is planning on
being at all the neighbourhood meetings. I doubt Miller will, as Toronto
is not north of Bloor Street.
He won't know how to get there. Maybe he could take the wonderful Keele bus up.

Jamie - yes, he botched the Provincial Leadership, race - he was inexperienced and ill-suited to the job. But one thing Tory knows is Toronto - he would have been a fabulous mayor, but with the NDP cabal at City Hall and it's publishing arm, the Toronto Star, he didn't have a chance...

"Much like Rudy Giuliani did during 9/11." Your kidding, aren't you Fred? This is nothing like 9/11. You need to get a ghost writer or something. Man "O" man.

Freddie P. -- I was kidding. I know sarcasm doesn't always translate well online but I thought my comments with respect to Mr. Tory were pretty clearly a shot at the half-wits who decided to elect Mayor Hair.

I am a big John Tory fan and lament that the voters of Toronto and then Ontario were so short-sighted and naive.

I don;t like Miller but if you want to see a real disater, get in a time machine and elect Jane PItfield

You mean John Tory, the privileged son who has never really won one (other than the one he was parachuted into in March 05) democratic election?

You mean John Tory, who forced negative option billing onto Rogers customers?

You mean John Tory, who approved the Jean Chretien facial-deformity ad?

You mean John Tory, the guy who attempted to bribe John Nunziata out of the mayoral race in 03?

You mean John Tory who didn't even win his own seat in his own riding last election - as the leader of his party???

Unfortunately, the majority of Toronto democratically elected Miller twice...maybe we are all idiots according to you guys? Fred: we have a "socialist mentality"? At least we have a democratic socialist mentality.
Again, Toronto is quite a bit different than Brampton.

Truly!, i thought this was top-notch excellent piece of writing. In theory I would like to create like this also - taking time and realistic effort to manufacture a great written piece... yet what can I say... I delay doing things loads and do not seem to get something implemented

Why is Constructing a Mosque at Ground Zero actually permitted to take place? I never heard something so utterly idiotic in all of my entire life. If this possibly approaches reality, It would be the hardest situation in the world. aida

Who ever imagined the decided developing a mosque at ground zero was likely a great idea? I'm no great fan of either Glen Beck or Sarah Palin however , matched against Obama and his ridiculous current administration, both of these are prodigies, get real U . s, there is certainly a little bit of strange stuff going down. Who in hell considered building a mosque at ground zero could be really helpful? I'm no great fan of both Glen Beck or Sarah Palin but yet as compared with Obama and the ridiculous administration, these two are prodigies, come on The usa, there is plenty of unusual stuff going on. Allyson.

Lohan Should go to Rehabilitate Today. If this isn't just her attempting to stay away from jail then really it is foolish! She actually is likely to head over to jail for at least thirty days irrespective of who the judge is. However in L . a . actually 6-8 days!
