The New EZ Morning Show

August 11, 2008 @ 09:11

Even though it's been apparent for some time that is wasn't going to happen, the idea of a Humble and Fred re-union is something that always came up on this website, and admittedly crossed my mind a few times over the past three years.

But now it's safe to say it's never going to happen.

Humble has taken a job with 97.3 EZ Rock in Toronto, and judging by the way things go in the radio business that should be good for about three years minimum, and if things go right, it could be at least thirteen.

Regardless, it means the official end of Humble and Fred as a radio franchise because our lives had taken distinctly different paths and I expect three years from now, they'll be even more distinct.

This morning on EZ Rock, Howard did his first show with Kim Stockwood and Colleen Rusholme.

I look back with fond memories of my almost sixteen years on the Humble and Fred Show, and wish Howard nothing but success in the years to come.

It was lots of fun with some fabulous memories and unbelievable moments, but there are new things to try and interesting challenges to conquer.

That's it, that's all.

I sort of figured that's how things would go when I heard about this new HH Gig. I hope you find something soon I want to hear you on the Radio too.

EZRock? Humble?

Oh Lord have mercy on him.

I'm with Boomer. I don't see the fit at all for Howard on EZRock. Best of luck to him. Maybe he'll give them the "edge" they need to beat out CHFI and CHUM. Personally, I don't listen to easy listening music stations, as I only like syrup with my pancakes.

Boomer, get a grip. The ratio of good to bad songs ends up about the same on any station. Even if Humble and Fred miraculously returned to The Edge, the good to bad song ratio would be about the same as EZ Rock. It's really not that bad, and when the Celine Dion comes on, I'll turn the volume down for the 3 mins. How is that different from lowering the volume when Linkin Park, Nickelback, Sum 41, Josh Groban, Daughtry or anyone else comes on the radio? Same shit, different flavour. I'm glad for Humble, and quite frankly he was fairly engaging this morning. He wakes me up in the morning; he's definately a natural morning show guy.

Hopefully they'll go easy on the Celine Dion and Phil Collins and play more Feist and.. even Stevie Wonder is acceptable.

yeah and what great music stations do you people listen to that you genuinely enjoy? The Mix? The Edge? You enjoy the 40 same songs?

hilarious.

I always enjoyed H & F on both CFNY and Mojo.

I think Humble would be better suited on an am talk radio format. As he was with the MIX he will only have so many minutes to be funny and then before he knows it, its on to a Celine Dion or Anne Murray ditty. CFRB, the Fan or am640 should have hired Humble before EZ came calling.

I agree with Jason, all stations play crap and it really is just a matter of which one sucks the least. That’s why I choose to play my MP3 player in the car or listen to 590 or 640 for sports and news info.

Q107
Derringer's entertaining in the am.
But they play the same 100 songs over and over.

Jason, you can please remove your lips from Humble's posterior now.

Congratulations to Humble - and who cares what kind of music EZ rock plays? It has nothing to do with Humble, or his particular brand of schtick.

I just may tune in tomorrow, because I'm mighty sick of Q107's very lame fills-ins for the endlessly vacationing Derringer....

That's wonderful for Humble!

Fred, maybe you can swing a once a week call-in to EZ rock like your other gigs? It would be great to hear you both on the air again even if only for a few minutes a week...

Good for Humble! Unfortunately I just can't listen the music on EZ Rock.

In fact, all radio stations in Toronto are horrible!!

Boomer it takes a real man to bark insults at someone while hiding behing a moniker doesn't it? I bet you feel really proud.

If Argue and i can agree on something, then maybe just maybe I have a point. Just a thought. Once again, get a grip.. and what wonderful station is it that you enjoy?

Hey FP
Thanks for the nice note and thanks for recycling my Grade 10 head shot. I still remember when they put that and your bizarre High School shots on those bus-boards. We were always two scary-looking dudes.
Talk to you soon and best to all your sweet people.

I think HH kind of left the door open on his blog today, but you never know. It would be great to see you two work together again, even if it's virtually. Maybe the two of you should have your own H&F blog in addition to your own personal blogs, and the two of you could rant at each other on a particular topic, just a thought.
All the best to the both of you. Look forward to bumping into you again in BWV.

So what if EZ Rock plays crap! I have followed H&F from the Spirit to the Edge to MoJo and finally the Mix. I listened to them because I thought they were funny and they made my mornings brighter. Even though I have never met them I still feel like I know them personally because of the antics at Fred's trailer and his mother and Humble's daughters, brothers and (sadly) his father. I will listen to Humble because he is funny and just refuses to take life seriously! We all have MP3 players to listen to our personal selections when the show is over.

Jason,

First of all it was me Boomer that posted the comment. The second comment was posted by BLOOMER.

Learn to read pal.

Secondly, I don't blame Humble one bit for taking the job. Good for him!

I was jokingly referring to having to listen to EZ Rock. Two words...Celine Dion.

Enough said.

C'mon Freddie. I read through this article and it sort of sounded like you were a little bitter that Humble got the gig and Freddie did not. I remember you were going for some of your own gigs on an AM station and I do not remember hearing Humble's voice on the radio with you.

Freddie. Stay away from Humble. I can tell that you guys have grown apart. Go on and do your own thing on the Talk Radio stations. That is where you belong now.

I stopped listening to FM radio when Humble and Fred were tossed out of radio. The business didn't know a great thing when they heard it. Just satellite for me now baby.

Dear Freddie -
I was thrilled to learn that HH would be back on radio... but my heart sank like a rock when I heard that he was going to be on EZcrap!
I live in hope that one day, you and HH will be reunited and all will be right the morning radio again -- hopefully on a stn that plays decent music :o)
All the best!

Boomer:

My bad.

Celine Dion was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news, but it's not the music that I expected to engage me. Once you look past the tunes, anyone who listened this week knows the EZ morning team put on a good show.

I think this write up was actually a strong beginning to a potential series of posts about this topic. Most users act like they know what they are talking about when it comes to this topic and most of the time, nearly no one actually get it. You seem to really dominate it however, so I think you should run with it. Thanks!

Wow!, it was a high quality piece. Theoretically I would like to publish along these lines as well - taking time and substantial effort to produce a good summary... just what can I say... I waste time an awful lot and don't seem to get something basically finished
