June 24, 2008 / 08:39
And I liked him best out of the 3 of them. Wow! I unfortunately have CHUM on for my morning alarm. I can tell ya I like the show alot better when it's Darren B Lamb and Maie Potts on in the morning! Much more funnier. Not as funny as H&F mind you!
June 24, 2008 / 08:52
Wow, I always thought Hodge was a lifer at CHUM... My parents will never be able to recover from this...
I stopped listening to CHUM once I discovered how cool AM 640 and the Edge were. But I always liked the bit where they ask Rick trivia questions... And who's going to host the Sunday Funnies??? NOOOOOOOO!
June 24, 2008 / 10:48
Now that H&F is off the air my wife has Chum FM on her alarm. The only part of the show I can stand is the trivia with Hodges. Now it's REALLY going to suck :(
June 24, 2008 / 11:01
From what I recall there's been stories circulating for a few years that Rick would go or be asked to leave and it's too bad.
He has been so good there that it will seem very odd now.
I wouldn't be surprised RR&M is near the end of days in it's current form. Listening to the station lately there has been a definite shift from AC to CHR/AC music. Maybe there are lining up a show more fitting to the programming shift. They've certainly played around with the other day parts too so it will be an interesting fall book.
What would the summer be without a little Toronto morning show contraversy?!?!?!
June 24, 2008 / 13:27
It looks like if you're a radio DJ you better don't take summer vacation. It get's you every time.
I don't listen to 104.5 either but my wife does every morning and the funny thing is she told me a few days ago that "there must be something cooking" because the trio NEVER took vacation together at the same time. Looks like she was right.
June 24, 2008 / 13:31
i lump chumfm and chfi's morning shows into the same category and sum them up the same way: phony, corny and completely irrelevant to me.
And don't get me started on the music.
Man do i miss the spirit of radio.
June 24, 2008 / 13:52
Wow, first Mats, Now Rick. This is starting to look like a very interesting summer...verrry interrresting...
And like Prider, I too miss the Sunday Funnies.
June 24, 2008 / 14:00
Well how about Roger, Fred & Marilyn?? C'mon Fred - go for it and refresh that brand!!!
June 24, 2008 / 14:48
Its all good now there is a new opening for Humble and Fred to return to the air waves...
Let the H&F show return asap!!!
June 24, 2008 / 14:48
Back in the days of Pete 'n Geets, and then Humble & Fred, I detested Roger, Rick and Marilyn. I hated them for their yuppiness and their carefully constructed broadcasts, designed to appeal to young professional couples who drove BMWs and bragged about their children. Ugh. Now I could care less. Still, it's interesting that they would retire Hodge! How soon will it be until the grizzled Roger gets the boot?
June 24, 2008 / 16:23
There are rumours Ashby is going to work for Moses Znaimer...
June 24, 2008 / 19:06
I think CHUM FM is a pretty darn good station. Rick leaving may hurt it a bit, but he was not the main focus of the show.
June 24, 2008 / 19:44
Well time will tell, but with the death of every great morning show, another one gets a breath of fresh air, CHUM can bring back the Humble and Fred Show and bring Mae Pauts back to the 9-1 slot.....She was always wonderful to hear and I believe she still works nights there right? Reformat the station to a "classic Alternative format" Alan Cross jumps over and programs the station. Done. Damn Im good. Probably wont happen though.....getting my hopes up
June 24, 2008 / 21:52
That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Isn't CHUM FM number one in all age groups?
June 24, 2008 / 21:52

June 26, 2008 / 14:21
what became of Henny?
June 26, 2008 / 14:49
Hey mike (Buffalo Boy), I like your plan. Now if we could get Jesse & Gene for the drive home, we'd be set.
Get it on!
June 26, 2008 / 14:53
And Frankenstein,
No, it's not!
No, it's not!
No, it's not!
June 26, 2008 / 21:39
My info must be wrong. I thought CHUM FM was number one 25-54 adults, and huge too with all women.
June 27, 2008 / 01:39
You've basically got it bang on. They are popular with women 25-54.
July 2, 2008 / 07:06
I just heard the news of Rick's leaving...shocking.
But you are right, never has all 3 gone on vacation together - - I guess to soften the blow when they came back. No, have to disagree with the comment that Darren B. Lamb and Maie Pauts are better - Maie is horrible !!! Would have to find a new morning show if she were on it.
Could be this is the "new" management. Marilyn left CityLine as it's a conflict of interest now that CTV bought ChumFM.
I wish Rick much happiness - -hopefully he'll turn up soon.
July 2, 2008 / 07:56
R & R have been at odds for years, even I could detect it when listening to them on the radio together.
July 2, 2008 / 10:26
I guess it's no more chum in the am for me
July 2, 2008 / 10:37
Sadly Fred, I will not shed a tear for the demise of Roger, Rick and Marilyn. I will admit I thought Rick was the only one of them I could have a conversation with. But CHUM has not been on my radio since 1975, and my clock radio has been set to 102.1 since January 1978. I may be older now, but tastes are still edgey.
July 2, 2008 / 11:18
CHUM-FM won't be the same without Rick...it's time to freshen the morning show up, and I LOVE when Darren B Lamb is hosting...he is one of the funniest guys I've heard in a long time! Maybe it's time to say so-long to RRM?
July 2, 2008 / 12:47
Rick Hodge will be missed by most morning 104.5 listeners. His sports report, trivia, and Tuesday's morning rapid fire turned me into a regular ChumFM'r. Let's see how the show goes-on.
July 2, 2008 / 15:43
I will miss Rick
I guess I will look for another radio station for my morning listening
July 2, 2008 / 16:02
I am a long time listener of RR&M. I think I've stuck with the show for so long more out of habit than true enjoyment. I agree with a few others on her - Darren B and Maie are great together and really make me laugh. I think it's time to retire the RR&M show and shake things up a bit at CHUM - Roger is getting crusty in his "old age" and Marilyn I think has gotten to high and mighty on herself. Rick really and truely was the best part of that show.
July 2, 2008 / 18:00
For years on RR&M, the best parts of the show were the bits with Hodge. I set my radio alarm 20 minutes earlier many years back just to catch the bits where Hodge would get just a few minutes to riff on whatever was on his mind. It was before MD would show up for her shift after 6am - you know, back before she made it big on TV and moved closer to the downtown work area.
Oh well - at least they acknowledged his leaving this morning on the air.
Good luck to you in life, Mr. Hodge.
I agree with those who find Darren B Lamb a more entertaining host and I have no issues with Maie Pauts as co-host. Until the torch is passed at CHUM FM, I may as well switch over to Derringer if only because of his witty co-host Maureen Holloway.
July 2, 2008 / 18:33
don't they have a new program director at chum fm now? Was he behind this change or did Rick go on his own?
July 2, 2008 / 22:14
This morning, when I heard Rick had left the show, I wasn't surprised. What was he doing for the last few months? The moment I realized he was no longer reporting the sports, I wondered what his role truly was? How long could one pretend to be so knowledgeable in the trivia games??! Like many of the other responses, I was growing bored of the program. Some of Marilyn's comments were quite judgemental and ignorant (in the true sense of the word, 'ignorant'). It amazed me how she was able to criticize people, and yet she didn't wish to receive such criticism in return for her comments (e.g. when she would say, "'... And don't bother sending me an E-mail about this or writing to me about that ....'" shortly after one of her foolish statements). Although Roger may have been the 'first' in RR&M, he sounded pretty much 'on his own' this morning. He and Marilyn sounded lost; it was pathetic. I enjoy when Darren B. Lamb and Maie Pauts host the program. I find Darren, in particular, to be funny and upbeat in the morning. And isn't that what you want to hear in the morning as you get ready for work or play? Now, I'm wondering which station to listen to in the morning? I used to listen to CHFI, but Erin Davis drove me nuts (before she was fired from CHFI)! That's when I switched to CHUM. Now what?? ;)
July 2, 2008 / 23:06
What the heck am I supposed to listen to now? I stopped listening to the MIX when they got rid of Humble and Fred and switched to CHUM FM because they weren't great but they were familiar. Now I've grown accustomed to them and Rick was great because he was honest.
I sent an email to the program director, just as I did when they got rid of Humble, and I swear they all write from the same book. They insist that they didn't get rid of him it was ''HIS'' decision to leave. Bull!!!!!
I'm running out of radio stations here!!!!
July 3, 2008 / 09:14
I am a female 25-54 so I guess i fit in perfectly. I have been listening to Chum FM mornings for more years than I can remember. I always thought Rick was out of place, he got the least air time and never seemed to be in the room, so I didn't really get the point of his "position"...I'm beginning to agree that maybe it is time to move on.....Marilyn already has another show booked with CTV which is why she left Cityline but she asserted that she would not leave radio to do the CTV show so she was going to continue to do both....i wonder if this is just the catalyst to really push everyone out and start fresh....my vote is Darren B Lamb as well, he is hysterical...but I'm tired of the package of one guy-one girl, or two guys-one girl.....why not do something different, maybe one guy only and guest cohosts every week ? Keep it interesting....anyway good luck Rick ! Curious to see where you are going !
July 3, 2008 / 10:16
When I drove to work yesterday morning, I heard Roger and Marilyn say that Hodgey had left CHUM-FM. I was truly stunned. CHUM-FM has been part of my morning ritual for as long as I can remember. They aren't the hosts that I had when I lived in Vancouver but I grew used to them. Admittedly, I am a "station hopper" between Q107 and CHUM-FM. Darren B. Lamb is great but I am not so sure about Mae (sorry, don't know how to spell the last name). If Roger and Marilyn were to leave, you should definitely slide Darren in there. I think it is pathetic that CHUM-FM has done little to salute the man who was "sports snorts", trivia, Rick's rapid fire and the Sunday funnies. I received a standard response from the program director. I found Roger and Marilyn totally lost yesterday when they were trying to tell us (without being allowed to tell the whole truth, that is for certain) what happened to our Hodgey. RR&M were a package deal - I highly doubt that the two will be able to go on without our Hodgey.
Rick I wish you the very best in your future. I know that you will re-surface soon. Miss you already

MAD DOG & BILLIE on the mix RAWK!!
July 3, 2008 / 11:41
I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Rick leaving CHUM-FM. I don't think the program will have the same appeal now and maybe it is time to check out a new morning show.
July 3, 2008 / 12:00
You could tell the pot was brewing at CHUM-FM a year or so ago. New management, 'family' rifts with R&R, and changes in Hodgie's role at the station. No doubt the new management team is exercising their role along with failed attempts at addressing succession planning when RR&M retire. I guess their thought was, if we can't ever replace the dynamic team of RR&M then we will dismantle now and anyone will look good by comparison. Big mistake!
Hodgie, I wish you well! You played a HUGE role in the success of CHUM-FM's morning show. I too, woke early to catch your segments of the show. Let us know what station you have moved to.

Forget about a "trio" a chatty DJ... who cares about their lives. The point of listening to the radio is to hear music, not talk, talk, talk, I swear it's 15 minutes between songs in the morning. As many listeners, I've switched to other station and running out of options. But my CD collection in the car is growing quickly!!!!

Anna,
I appreciate you feeling like you can speak for everyone that listens to the radio but you DON'T. Not everyone wants to only hear music on the radio.
July 3, 2008 / 15:45
Anyone put any thought on to who is replacing Chuck Swirsky on the Fan 590...maybe Rick got tired of not having a huge role in the sports department (even though he was the sports director)...and is up for a new challenge, wouldn't it be awesome to see a resurection of "Sports Norts" on the Fan!!!
July 3, 2008 / 19:26
I cannot beleive Hodgie has left! It's not the same without him. Today's morning show was missing a link and Roger & Marilyn are not sounding the same without him. Who are they going to make fun of? Hodgie was an easy target and took it well with all the jokes on him.
It looks like Hodgie left on a bad note. I'm sure if it was on his terms he would have said goodbye to all his fans.
Take Care Rick Hodge & all the best to your future. Thanks for your great work, I enjoyed listening to you!
And to the CHUM FM Morning Show - I wish you even more luck trying to maintain the fan base you once had with RRM!
July 3, 2008 / 21:45
I have listened to Roger, Rick and Marilyn faithfully for as long as they have been on the air and I am not old. They are funny, they changed with the times and quite frankly they are the BEST morning show in Toronto. I feel for Roger and Marilyn and Rick will be sadly missed on this show...
July 4, 2008 / 01:44
I could be wrong but I think the reason all 3 of them went on so called "vacation" at the same time was due to contract issues...Roger and Marilyn got what they asked for and they didn't stand up for Hodgie. The show is not the same without Hodgie and they will lose a lot of listeners. Good luck Rick, you will be missed.
July 4, 2008 / 08:33
I spent my teens listening to CHUM FM (Jeff Ansell, anyone???. When I joined the work world, discovered this strange fellow named Don Daynard; like a slightly worn bathrobe, he brought me comfort in the morning. When he retired, I stayed on with Erin, because I found her in the pocket of the bathrobe. When they brought Mad Dog 'n' Billie, I woke up angry every day, listening to utter tripe that had NO repeat NO value or touchstones in my life. So I went searchin' and found...yup, Humble 'n' Fred. Discovered I really liked listening to the same music as my kids. Gave us something in common. And eventually, Fred became the new bathrobe, still a little starchy, but starting to wear in nicely; Humble was now in the pocket. Then, one summer rolled around and Fred gone. Stayed to the final inning when Humble got taken down and who shows up there? Ugh, dammit, MD & B. NO NO NO. Not prepared to purchase my radio stations, still needing music to wake to, so I go lookin' again, and what goes around comes around. Back I go after 20 something years to CHUM FM, cuz at least Rick Hodge was still around. Can't help it folks; I'm 50, and I'm a chick. I want music to wake up to, with some intelligent conversation in between, cuz the rest of my day is filled with the same realities as the rest of you have; just trying to get through to the next paycheque, make a good life for my kids, and teach them some decent values. People like Roger, like you, Fred...you guys reminded me at the start of my day to keep focussed on the things that are real. There's not a lot of "real" anymore. Sigh. I dunno; maybe, like my kids, I just need to get an ipod and hook it up to my alarm. Cuz the pickin's are getting just tooooooo slim.
July 4, 2008 / 14:40
I don't think there is a listener out there that believes Rick left on his own accord. I have listened to RRM for many years and have enjoyed the rapport even though I don't believe for a minute that there is any love lost between the three. As we have heard from many, I think the CHUMFM morning show is on a slippery down slope and its going to be an uphill climb to be back on top of the Hogtown heap! let's hope the 'new' mgmt is listening. All the best Rick... and maybe likewise to Roger & Marilyn.
July 4, 2008 / 19:03
I just checked...the ratings for the morning show at CHUM FM are better than they have ever been.
July 5, 2008 / 00:14
For the Spirit of Radio make the switch like I have as a dual subscriber to Sirius and XM, you will not regret it!
July 5, 2008 / 11:50
Okay, so Rick has moved on. People change. Priorities change. I myself would not like to live on the schedule of a morning radio host. Espeically, since I am getting older. Maybe it was just getting to be too much for him.
Something had to give anyway. I could feel the tension sometimes between Rick and Roger. So one of them figured okay time to end this and did. And Rick is not stupid. He wouldn't have done it if it was the wrong personal choice to make. (if it was his choice...but that's the story)
Change the morning show I listen to. Why? I didn't listen to it just for Rick. I love the Sunday Funnies and will miss that.
So... life goes on. The world did not stop revolving and collide into the sun.
.... get over it.
July 6, 2008 / 14:54
I have been a steadfast fan of Chum fm and I wonder why. Perhaps Hodgy just got sick of the 4 repeat songs that they only seem to play. I know that I have. I wish HIM all the best and soon as I find out where he has gone I will tune in. So sorry chumfm but its called karma besides its time for Marilyn to step down she's getting old and tired ...I wouldve kept Hodge and dropped her ...why does she need two jobs anyway to pay for her plastic surgery? I thought she got that pro-bono!!!
July 6, 2008 / 14:57
OMG! Hodgy was the best part of the chumfm morning show. Soon as I find out where he went I will tune. Seems he mustve got bored with the 4 repeat songs that chum continues to play...me too!
Hail to the Hodge!
July 7, 2008 / 09:20
I remember how comforted I felt on the morning of September 12th to hear RR&M as shell-shocked as I was, but taking the first official baby step to returning to normal day to day life again. Without Hodgie it's just not the same, but I'll hang in to see what develops. Incredibly sad that it ended bitterly without deserved fanfare. There's barely any record of him at the ChumFM website and that's just wrong.
July 7, 2008 / 10:42
What a sad shame!!! As a loyal listener for many, many years, I have to say that Hodgie was one of my favourites. Bad move from the new management (whatever caused the departure). Should have stuck with a sure thing and kept Hodgie and Roger and ditched Marilyn (she's become extrenmely annoying over the past several months and has caused a lot of people to start tuning out). Careful CTV --- I'm sure you just lost the boastful morning show ratings of the past.
July 7, 2008 / 13:26
C'mon people. All morning shows are scripted and lame. You want a good morning show, no one, I MEAN NO ONE is better than Howard Stern. After all most of these people have stolen all his ideas anyway. I'd even take Imus over these duds. There's a reason Stern makes 100 Million a year. Plus, I'd like to see how the ratings would dive iof any one had to pay to listen to any of these hasbeens.
July 8, 2008 / 16:32
I don't trust anyone who insists on using their middle initial in their name..........does anyone know what the "B" in Darren B. Lamb stands for?
July 11, 2008 / 08:07
Well, that surprises me. I used to listen to that trio for many years, however I stopped due to the lousy music. I know listen to morning show on Q107 - funny and down to earth - John Derringer, Ryan, Billy and the ever funny Maureen have taken batton and run with it. give it a listen!
July 11, 2008 / 20:12
Hodgie was my favourite. I've dialed over to Jack for my traffic and news because the music on 104.5 is not mine anymore; I only listened for Hodge. I'll listen to Jack then dial over to Sirius for the rest of the drive
July 14, 2008 / 18:38
Are mad dog and Billie getting the boot from mornings or from the MIX????
July 14, 2008 / 23:15
You are missed Hodgey, All the best.....
July 16, 2008 / 17:46
Fred: Thanks to all your readers for the nice things they've had to say. It's really appreciated.
Hodgie

July 18, 2008 / 12:12
This is a shame. I'm a young listener of CHUM FM, and I love listening to Roger, Rick and Marilyn. The three of them are so funny together. It's a shame.
(Almost as much as Ice Cold Beer guy getting the boot, but thats another story)
July 18, 2008 / 22:56
i know i'm a little slow, but coming off of mat leave, i wasn't usually up until after the show was done... i was so shocked to find Hodgie missing in the morning... i loved listening to him so much i'd stop reading on my commute just to pay attention to him on my walkman to what he had to say, especially 5:50-ish... i'm sad he's gone, and no, it isn't be the same without him... sure Darren's pretty funny, but being back for just a week, i feel like i'm in mourning... miss you Hodgie...
July 29, 2008 / 16:19
They did Rick a favour! I'm sure he'll surface again louder and prouder! CHUM-FM's music is getting worse, catering to the rap crowd and I am starting to switch the dial. You all watch, Roger will be next! It's too bad. RRM were a great team but nothing stays the same.
Rick, I'll miss stories about your cats so I hope you'll surface again soon!!
All the best!!
July 31, 2008 / 02:44
He is a lucky guy to get a job he likes at his age.
luv girl
August 1, 2008 / 15:51
I grew up listening to RRM. They made my mornings enjoyable. I loved the fact that they said the time a lot so I didn't have to keep running into the hall. A small thing, but it made a difference. I'm now older and I have a teenager who loves the show. The conversation is intelligent, funny and engaging. I cannot believe that Rick is no longer there. It almost feels like someone wonderful has died and I am in mourning. RRM, you have come into my home each day. You've entertained me and I was so thrilled with you that I passed you on to my daughter with pride. You've been like family. Uncle Rick is gone!? Devastating.
August 2, 2008 / 19:02
I had the pleasure of joining Roger Rick and Marilyn last year for Breakfast in Barbados and it was a blast. The three of them were all wonderful in their own way, but I had the best time the last night hanging out with some fellow winners and Rick Hodge. He was hilarious!! I am saddened by his departure from CHUM FM but wish him all the best for the future!!!
August 3, 2008 / 01:21
I think it's an absolute shame that after 34 years of working for the same employer, this is how the "Management" at CHUM FM treat their employees!!!!! Rick Hodge will be missed. It's a shame that their website doesn't even mention anything about Rick Hodge! Shame on you CHUM FM Managemnt!! Hopefully, he'll wind up on the Fan590. The mornings aren't/will not be the same without you Rick!! 5:50 a.m will never be the same! Good luck with your future endeavours. As for the "brain trust" at CHUM FM, hope you get what you deserve! Can you spell
F I R E D!!!
August 7, 2008 / 13:48
came back from vacation. listened to the radio and did not know a thing about what happen to rick, but could tell in marilyn and rodger's voice something was up. all i know is if i ever have to listen to darren b lamb or mae pauts again it will be too too soon. does it not drive other people CRAZY how Mae Pauts talks and then laughs nervously after every sentence she says when she is on air with another person. ANNOYING
August 7, 2008 / 21:03
I am just back from vacation too - and initially did not suspect anything as CHUM FM and the RRM show normally had folks on vacation all summer. But after a week of Roger and Marilyn and no Rick, finally decided to check out the website, which had no mention of Rick. Pretty sad. The current game at 6:50 am is not nearly as interesting as Trivia. So much that challenged the intellect was attached to Rick. I too wish him the best.
August 9, 2008 / 12:54
All the best to Rick!
I listen to 104.5 for a very long time. Now I am greaving.
Rick's departure was a surprise to some degree.
I sensed that he was pushed away since Meg Tacker (Bacherolette Corespondent) was first inroduced to the show a few years ago.
She left for Calgary's? station.
She got decent "good bye" on the show.
In my opinion dynamic of the show is poluted for a while now.
I like R & M, but the balance is not there.
Too bad that Ice Cold Beer gentelman's departure got more atention on the show then Rick's departure.
I have no respect for management as it is up to them to show some class in moments like this.
Especially after one of the show icons leaves.
Someone said: "Common sense this days is so rare that it is mistaken for genius".

August 11, 2008 / 07:46
I'm off in the summer and didn't know until a couple days ago that Roger was gone. I also didn't know that CHUM-FM had been sold off (out?) RR&M was an institution. Just as you can't start a fire successfully without all three of fuel, oxygen and ignition temperature, you can't run that show with only two of its essential elements.

Pardon me. The last message should have read: "didn't know until a couple days ago that Rick was gone."

Rick Hodge joins the Bill Carroll Show
Astral Media is pleased to welcome popular morning radio host and sportscaster Rick Hodge to Newstalk 1010 CFRB.
Rick started his career at CHUM-FM as the station's first sportscaster, and remained there as part of the station's Roger Rick and Marilyn show for 22 years.
Rick joins the Bill Carroll Morning Show on CFRB covering sports and discussing the day’s events with other members of the morning show team.
We're thrilled that Rick has made the move to CFRB, and you can hear his take on local, national and international sports, as well as a healthy dose of entertainment and opinion each morning on the Bill Carroll Show, on NewsTalk 1010 CFRB between 6 and 9.
Rick will also be doing a daily sports commentary on Toronto at Noon with Dave Trafford, and hosting the only weekly comedy show on Toronto radio, Sunday nights at 8.

Man was I shocked. Living way up north now...I'm out of the loop. Just read a closed captioning spot for EZ ROCK's new morning lineup...including Hodgie!!! Had to google THAT. Wow.
Rick was at CHUM FM when I arrived at 1050 back in '83...and he'd been there almost 10 years then. Man...what a shocker.
As for the MIX...THAT went down the toilet when JJ arrived on the scene. He turfed hours tuned for cume. Then they turfed their talent...in hopes that the morning show of the minute would actually work.
NOT a chance. Now look at 'em. Gulp!!!
This'll hurt CHUM FM. Hodge was the link to a glorious past.

Okay guys, these comments are pretty funny. Well I'm a big surfer but no matter what the reason is or how bad some of that easy shall we say listening music is you can't break up Roger, Rick and Marilyn. Go on try saying it, Rick and Marilyn. What the H E double hockey sticks is that?
August 25, 2008 / 19:28
Like everyone else, I knew something was up when the trio were all on vacation at the same time.
I like Darren with the girls, but Roger, Marilyn and Darren will never be the same as RR&M. You can hear the strain between the guys when the three of them are on together.
Well great news everyone - Hodgie has been found!!!!
One of the girls at work told me she heard Hodgie on 97.3 Easy Rock this morning.
Guess who I'm checking out tomorrow morning...We love you Hodgie!!!
August 25, 2008 / 19:41
I just went on EZ Rock - Sorry, I stand corrected with my spelling - I've never strayed from CHUM except from AM to FM.
Today was Hodgie's debut -sorry I missed it, but I will be there for day two!

I was always torn listening to morning radio. I loved the music CHUM played but really got tired of the "battle of egos" that was prevalent on the RR&M morning show. I don't care to have radio announcers pour forth their personal opinions until I'm choking on them. Play the music and entertain me... that's what they should be there for, and sadly the "entertainment" part has been greatly lacking for the last 5 years. I think it's time Roger and Marilyn bowed out and let the show go on.
August 27, 2008 / 11:09
I've listened to the R R & M show for years and loved it. Can't stand Darryl "B" Lamb ....his voice and his weird sense of humor drove me away this summer ....he was standing in for Roger. I switched to Easy Rock ...where I clicked and stayed. So I'm delighted to find my ole pal Rick Hodge joing the morning show ....Great guy with a fab sense of humour.
August 27, 2008 / 20:46
I have noticed for quite a while that Roger and Marilyn didn't seem to even like Rick... they were really Sh*tty to him and put him down for a lot of his comments and statements... I say good for him for getting out...
August 29, 2008 / 22:36
It's too bad that RRM have split. As another person stated, I can't stand Maie Pauts (spelling??) and her laugh. It is the most irritating thing I've ever heard. Same with Darren B. Lamb although I can tolerate him slightly more. The one that I really like is Ingrid Schumaker. In any case, the CHUM FM morning show has lost it's appeal. I find myself looking for other stations. Their music line up has changed and I think it's time for me to change stations. I've been listening to CHUMFM for over 25 years (I feel like an 'aunt' to little Elvis - Marilyn's son as he was nicknamed!). I never thought I would say it since I have been so committed to the station. Obviously, someone 'upstairs' had a vision and is implementing it. Why mess with something that was so successful?

Very interesting site, nice design, greetings

CFRB won when Roger went up the street. Can't wait for the funnies tonight at 10 on 1010

What a shame about Rick Hodge no longer being part of the morning show. Personally, I stopped listening to CHUMFM when my daughter Sarah Miller left the station, about a year ago. That was such a thrill for me to hear her on THE biggest FM station in Toronto!!

Where have I been? I just heard this morning that Rick left CHUM! I thought before, that he was on vacation and never thought about it again. I've been listening to RR+M since the 80's! Rick is from my town. I worked with a girl who dated him way back when! I loved the morning show and also have my alarm set to it, but I don't like alot of the music they play now. Too much rappy stuff. But I will definitely miss Rick's Rapid Fire, etc. It just won't be the same anymore.

I am 65 years old, I have been listening to CHUM since it was a daylight only station back in the fifties. For more years than I can remember I have been listening to the rr&M show and always enjoyed Rick's segments in the morning the most. I just saw an ad for Chum showing RD&M and wondered what they where Rick had gone since I have been on holidays all summer. It was a bit of a shock. I wish him well in his new position
September 2, 2008 / 22:38
I had no idea of Rick's departure till I saw the ads for the new show he'll be on with Humble.
It's a huge surprise that the RRM team split. It had to happen some time, I realize. And in all honesty, I hadn't listened to Chum FM in a long time because their music format is too AC and Celine Dion for me. And I never was a fan of Marilyn's.
Anyway, I'll always remember Hodgie from the really old days when he was part of the crew behind "It came from Magnetawan".
I wish Hodgie all the best.

Oh, Rick has left which is so sad for CHUM and for their listener's. I love Roger and Marilyn but I looooove Rick.
Can't say exactly what it is about Rick (I'm not a sport fanatic) so that's not what I love about Rick. There's his voice and his sense of humor and I always wished he spoke more on the show. He will sadly be missed from CHUM but I'm delighted that I can still hear him with Humble. I hope he just stays in the business so we can all still enjoy him.
September 8, 2008 / 22:06
Still can't believe Rick left that staple of Canadian morning radio - my wife, who has been a long time fan of their trio, is still shocked.
Me, I'm still pissed at how you and Humble got the shaft from those dickheads at the Mix.
September 9, 2008 / 11:27
WOW.
never thought I would see this coming.but that's what happens with new management but I really think they screwed up this time.
The old saying (if it,s not broke don't fix it)
September 17, 2008 / 08:50
Working in late 50s for a radio station considered for the "young", his days were probably numbered. CFRB is kinder to "older" folks.
September 25, 2008 / 21:25
I totally agree with you that after 34 years one doesn't just decide to leave. It is evident that the new owners were reducing his involvement with the show and under estimated Hodgie and the CHUM FM listeners. After all,we all know what happened with Erin Davis and how that ended up. Does CHUMFM really believe that people will buy into the Hodgie wanted to try something new. As a long time listener, I'm shocked and one person at a time their ratings will fall. I for one will contribute to that.
September 28, 2008 / 19:47
Well I just liked the sunday funnies. That was Hodgy's best work. What will happen to the funnies? He was doing somthing that nobody else is/was doing on the Torornto Radio Landscape.

I can't believe Rick is gone. I listened to CHUM for years prior to going overseas for a 3 year work assignment and missed RR&M. (mostly Rick's segments). When I was being transfered back to Canada, i was looking forward too listening to RR&M (mostly Rick). Been back now for 5 years and I didn't miss too many morning's with RR&M driving to work. During the last 5 years i think the show started showing it's age. the best parts were Rick's segments. Now that Rick is gone, I havn't listened to CHUM on a regular basis and started listening to another station. My kids have switched me to Q107 and it's very refreshing. GOOD LUCK RICK .... we miss you. The good that has come out of this is my kids think I'm cool again since I've switched to Q107.

I'm still not into it. I only listen once in a while anymore. I actually love Ingrid - she tells us so much about the actual artists, which is really interesting to me. Maybe Ingrid and Marilyn should do the morning show. Now that would be different, and damn good.
November 2, 2008 / 12:11
I hate Darrin B. Lamb. What a mistake. He is sexist and his scarcasm drives me nuts in the morning. Dump him. Channel surfing and liking Rick on Easy Rock, but missing R & M.
January 14, 2009 / 16:09
Who listens to the radio anymore anyway? Other than some news/weather/sports in the morning, radio should provide music, not incessant banalities from "personalities". They are always so fluffy...fully arrayed with lame and weak jokes, fawning commentary, and loads of shallow content...yet peppered with false humility and moot conversation.
Let's not even discuss the music one will hear during one of these "morning shows"...let's not even go there right now.
January 19, 2009 / 22:02
not only do people still listen to the radio, Million listen on the computer, INTERNET, i'm right now, it's a variety of music, it's LEGAL and free!

Rick left, CHUM has re-runs on week-ends but tries to fake they are live, even though not bad during the week-days, try to listen to this station after midnight without going through a road rage or placing a tube from the exhaust to the cabin is just unexplicable
