Canada ---Usa
Health care. Big issue there. So expensive.
Big business. I'm sure the billionaires have Ottawa's ear but not to the extent that big business in the States can have a President elected and raise the price of oil and go to war to make them money and sell out citizens by contracting out jobs to cheap labour countries.
June 27, 2008 / 11:54
hey people, we don't have to bash the U.S. to know that Canada is great.
Don't forget who we would turn to in time of a world crisis.

I am an Amercian and it's a shame that you have to take such a negative view of the States. I agree that Canada is a great country. I think you'll find that most Americans don't have such a negtive perception of Canada as you do of the States. It is sad to hear such a commentary from a practial thinking individual such as yourself. Happy Canada Day !!!!
June 27, 2008 / 14:44
Hey
I have many American relatives all over the USA.
Irish expatriates.
I love America. Vibrant. Exciting. Great diversity.
Beautiful scenics. some great cities. Universities. Ingenuity...you name it. So careful to choose a President they take 2 years to do it.
I don't know if it's bashing or pointing out facts.
Cetainly seems government top heavy but not administratively top heavy[ to administer programs that is]. Hope it's a great
Canada Day and 4th of July for all.
Peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Relax Yankee Doodle, we all know there are many great Americans out there that don't fit into the sterotype. I even have a friend or two in Texas of all places.
June 27, 2008 / 16:23
Hey Fred,
Maybe you can add that Americans can bring a flag to a Jays game without being thrown out! Hehe...
June 27, 2008 / 18:26
Hey, I might be Buffalo Boy by website and how you all know me but believe me there are many things for the US to be envious about Canada from down here. We have had 8 years of a president that would make our grandmothers seem liberal and progressive.
For all the complaints about Canada's healthcare I hear we would love to have your problems here, ours is unaffordable and our government instead pays for a wrong war.
We do work too many hours here, get too few holidays, and our pay compared to cost of living has decreased with the price of everything going up. Fred your not far off the mark.
Hell you guys even have the best baseball team on the planet (though not based on their record only in my heart). So on that note, may your pride in your country and ideals spread this way and infect us in much the same way as it does Canada! For that I am Jealous because I see a people up north who truly pride themselves in their country and taking care of themselves as a people. I think we forget that in order to have pride in our country we need to be able to take care of ourselves first, we don't do that enough here. Instead we work 50, 60, 70 hours a week and forget about our country.
HAPPY CANADA DAY!

"a better standard of living. On average we make more money than they do, work fewer hours per week and we’re a whole lot healthier than they are." Thanks to Health Care, Canada Pension, our autonomy, good Labour Laws, progressive wages thanks to organized workers for consistently raising the bar and fighting the driving down wages mentality. Unemployment Insurance (the right name for it) the three R's in our Health and Safety laws, affordable housing, 40 hour work week, I could go on and on. Who did all this? Canadians that thought about their fellow Canadians. Social thinking Canadians. They included, yes, Unions, church groups, left and left leaning politics. Hmm....... Those are just some of the things that make this, OUR Canada so great. It's too bad most take these things for granted and bash the people or groups that fought and are still fighting for these things. Yet, on this blog anyways, most people praise the bastards that want to dismantle or water down these things that make Canada so great. Does it cost us? Of course it does but, I'm not complaining. I've seen first hand what happens to people south of us with their Health care. I'm proud to be a Canadian. I'm proud to be one of those people who will continue to fight to keep all the things the make Canada, Canada! You can't miss me on Canada Day. I'm the one with the biggest Canadian Flag in all of Lowville.
June 28, 2008 / 14:47
Social thinking Canadians did all that eh Mike. The facts are that is was for the most part U.S. owned companies that built plants here, hired workers here,(yes even your union buddies) and gave Canada the standard of living most of us enjoy today. So don't give me all the church group crap and NDP socialism. We saw enough of that with Bob Rae.
June 28, 2008 / 16:35
Phil, it's misinformed fools like you who think corporations, especially U.S. corporations that GAVE us the standard of living we enjoy in Canada. Handed it to us on a silver platter, eh? Like I figured, people on this Blog can't see the forest for the trees. If you think I was referring to Bob Rae, well your dead wrong. Go back in your history a bit boy. Try starting 7 decades ago and working your way forward. Most corporations in Canada were Canadian owned. I must have missed something though. Big business has always been socially conscious, right? We got all we have without even asking, right? We got all we have because corporations knew we deserved it, right? Thanks American corporations for all your help. Glad you gave us Canadians this great standard of living while shitting on your own at home.
Again, bash the ones that played a role, praise Big Business for slapping their corporate banner on it. Truth hurts, so just ignore it and it won't hurt as much. Dream on.......

Typical of Canadians to have to dump on someone else to prop up themselves. It can't be about our accomplishments, only about how we're superior to the USA. LIke our "superior beer" now owned by a US company. Like our "superior coffee" now owned by Wendy's. Like how most of our new Canadian music gets airplay FIRST in America. Go ask Tegan and Sara or Feist how much Canada did for their career.
Secondly, the claim that the Canadian economy is doing better than the USA is nonsense. It's Western Canada, notably Alta & Sask that drive the nations economic growth. Yet, ,these same people waving the superiority flag seem to have no trouble dissing or stereotyping anyone that lives west of the Manitoba border.
Ontario is the home to the loudest anti American nonsense in the country. Yet it's the place that most directly benefits for the USA via exports. Without the USA, Ontario would be a rustbelt wasteland. Careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
July 2, 2008 / 07:16
"Without the USA, Ontario would be a rustbelt wasteland." Not so, although we have a fairly short growing season, southern Ontario has some a the richest farmland in Canada. With Ontario's manufacturing base devistated, that just might be our saving grace.

Ontario's farming belt barely produces enough food to feed it's own. You've paved over half of it to put up cookie cutter houses (think Brampton).
I get sick and tired of Canadians that feel they need to diss the USA to make themselves look better. Yet these same Canadians consume the media, food & lifestyle of Americans. Ya'll hate the USA, cept you're lined up for a Coke & a Burger, while going to the movies & your house is full of American developed products. When you get sick, you buy American made medicine.

I don’t always agree with Irvine but he’s totally right on the mark here. Despite the crap we Canadian hurl at the yanks, they just smile, ignore us and think we’re so nice and polite.
Tucker Carlson said it best when he compared Canadians to the retarded cousin at the family reunion. He/she says stupid things but you just pat them on the head and say ‘aren’t they cute’.
