The Way It Is
The domestic terrorism that continues to take place in Caledonia, Ontario is the responsibility of the McGuinty government. There is no question about it.
Land claims are a federal issue, but breaking the law to make a point becomes the provincial issue and the McGuinty governments handcuffing of the OPP has been shameful.
Jason Kenney, is federal Minister of Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity and he hit the nail on the head late last week during a visit to Caledonia.
Extortion is illegal and it's happening under the nose of the Dalton McGuinty and OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino.
Native protests 'extortion': MP; Tory minister calls on province to uphold the law

The natives have receieved a raw deal from day one of confederation and as a result have an issue. However, this does not give the natives the right to break the law. Nor does it give McGuinty the right to allow the law to be broken. The OPP should, as in the Harris days, uphold the law and not allow the blockage of routes, both rail and road.
On the other hand, Trudeau was told by the native groups that the Indian Act was discriminatory. The response was to do away with the Indian act, and a white paper was released by Chretien(Minister of Indian Affairs) to abolish the Indian Act, transfer most of the responsibility for Native rights to the provinces and to eliminate reserve lands and end special status for natives in Canada. Learned Native lawyers agreed and supported the Chretien white paper. Alas, the majority of Native groups did not support the abolition of the Indian Act and the long term benefits for the Natives to be integrated into Canadian society.
As a result the Trudea Government backed down, and the dilema remains. Section 25 of the Canada Constitition of 1982 secures the rights of all Natives under the Royal Proclamation of October 7, 1763.
With all of this said, it is time to fast track to the present time and era. Time and concepts change and old treaties are now out of touch and obsolete.
The natives need to be intregated into the Canadian society without special privledges or status. The Natives leaders and appointed government representatives have a responsibility to reach an agreement which will please the majority. Governments have been committing to a resolution for years and unfortunately fail to reach a decision because they lack the foresite to not do what is right for the country. It seems it is more important to do what is right to get re-elected!
Lets make a deal with the Natives. The Natives deserve to be treated with respect. Native lands were seized and compensation is due. A one time payment to each and every Native is imperative to complete the integration into being full Canadians.
Most of all we must all fall under the same laws for Canada.
I am a Mohawk residing in Grand River Territory and I have no desire for a one time payment. I wish for people to educated them self before they talk about something they know nothing about. The land is ours. We have no need to sell away our rights for money. The Canadian government know they are wrong but use the media to mislead the people in believing otherwise. So I ask you to take some and educated yourself on my people before you make a statement about one time payments. It's about our land not money.
Ok George you can have some of the land but since you don’t care about money how about we (Cdn taxpayers) stop sending you a cheque ever month? How about you start paying taxes? How about start paying for the FULL price of gas, smokes and booze like the rest of us?
Just think of the billions that is pissed away on this group of ingrates.
Bring in the damn Army.
As a white man if I were to do these things that the red man is doing I would be in jail. I would also most likely be called a terorist. Why does the red man think they deserve to be treated any different than any white man or any other denomination in this wonderful country of OURS. Also stop taking my tax dollars. What is happening with all the money coming from your cigerattes and casinos? Does that money end up in some corrupt red man pockets?
A revision to this sentence would explain all the issues you raise:
"Land claims are a federal issue" but development on the disputed land is a provincial issue. Ontario has a legal 'Duty to Consult and Accommodate' about all development on traditional Indigenous land, according to the Supreme Court of Canada. The police know that, and they know that Ontario is evading the law. They are correct in their actions of keeping the peace, since apparently they cannot place charges against the provincial government.
Apples & Oranges granny... They look different, they taste different and they even grow on different species of trees. They are different because they are not of the same design or intent.
Somehow you are trying to justify native's violent outbursts, criminal acts and blatant lawlessness as being acceptable because of some land claims.
Now c'mon granny,.. even you can't really be that stupid to believe what you are trying to imply... A land claim is just that,... it's a land claim and that claim is to be resolved between the federal government and the complainant,... whereas blatant lawless acts of terrorism is a criminal offense and should not be simply ignored by officers of the law.
Any lands under claim are subject to negotiating for compensation only,.. as land under a claim will never be returned once it has been deeded under the land registry system. Land never has been returned under land claim negotiation process and deeded lands never will be returned, unless they use the compensation money to buy land,... compensation in lieu of the claim, but no lands will ever be surrendered from the land title system...
