Much Ado About Nothing

Ideally it would be great if Canada's Olympic athletes wore Canadian made uniforms in Beijing this summer but it's not practical.

Instead, they'll wear Canadian uniforms that were made in China. The same place that produces many of the goods that Canadians flock to Wal-Mart stores to buy. The same place that gets so much of our manufacturing business because unions have made it almost impossible to operate in Canada.

It's laughable that the opposition parities have tried to turn this into a political issue when its nothing more than a sign of the times.

Not to mention that it was the decision of the Canadian Olympic Committee that operates totally on it own, free of the government.

Outcry over made in China clothes

I'm glad there's an outcry over this. If our Olympians won't be wearing "Made in Canada" with pride, how and why would we expect Joe Canadian to do the same?

It is just hard to find some products that are still made in Canada. I bought new shoes and couldn't find a pair made in Canada.

Maybe there are shoes still made in Canada but at what cost?

I CAN NOT BELEIVE WHAT I AM READING, I WAS JUST SURFING THIS SITE THINKING ABOUT WRITING AN ARTICLE DISCUSSING THIS POINT EXACTLY, THIS MADE IN CHINA CRAP REALLY GETS ON MY NERVES, I HAVE BEEN IN THE MFG BIZ FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND I HAVE SEEN IT GETTING WORSE, BUT WHAT REALLY STEAMS ME IS WHEN THESE UNION PEOPLE STAND AT THE PULPIT TALKING ABOUT HOW THE GOV'T IS KILLING THE MFG SECTOR BECAUSE IT DOES NOTHING TO HELP, WELL THE UNION PEOPLE ARE CORRECT, THE GOV'T DOES DO LITTLE TO HELP BUT THE UNION IS THE BIGGER CROOK HERE, THEY CONSTANTLY ASK FOR MORE MORE MORE WHILE OFF SHORE MANUFACTURERS ARE DOING IT FOR LESS AND NOT GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE. AND AT THE SAME TIME AND THIS GOES FOR THE AUTO UNION ONLY, THEY ASSEMBLE CARS MADE WITH 70% OR MORE PARTS THAT ARE MADE IN CHINA, BECAUSE THE 3 MAJOR AUTO MAKERS IN NORTH AMERICA HAVE TO BUY CHEAPER PARTS SO THEY CAN AFFORD TO PAY THE HUGE UNION WAGES AND BENEFITS, AS A RESULT PEOPLE IN BUSINESSES LIKE MINE ALL OVER ONTARIO SUFFER IN A HUGE WAY. AND THE POOR UNION PEOPLE ON THEIR PULPIT CONTINOUSLY USE THE PHRASE "MANUFACTURING IN ONTARIO" WELL GUYS SORRY TO SAY YOUR NOT PART OF MANUFACTURNG IN ONTARIO SO DON'T SPEAK FOR US, WE'LL TRY AND DO IT ON OUR OWN. THE GOOD NEWS IS UNIONS ARE SO SHORT SIGHTED THAT THEY CAN NOT EVEN SEE THE DEMISE OF UNIONS ALL OVER NORTH AMERICA. SOONER OR LATER THEY WILL BE GONE. THINK ABOUT IT, IT WAS THE SAME UNION MENTALITY THAT LEFT TORONTO TTC RIDERS OUT ON THEIR OWN AT MIDNIGHT ON A FRIDAY, REALLY TOP NOTCH CITIZENS. OF COURSE CONTINUE TO THINK LIKE THAT AND YOU'LL BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME.
