Mind Your Own Business
CanadianThinker finds anti-abortionists to be very selfish. Trying to dictate what someone else should do with their bodies is way out of line.
This country has been built on freedom of choice, and without question that should include the difficult choice for a woman to end a life within.
It’s nobody else’s business.
Especially out of control protesters who put the safety of others at risk.

I often times think that protestors don't think of the person in the situation of being pregnant.
Do protestors really "save" children when they harrass women outside of abortion clinics or lead protests on the hill?
To me, protests (and protestors) are like those annoying telemarketers that call me at night. What makes them think that I would even remotely be interested in their product? What makes anti-abortionists believe that because they yell loud and carry signs that I could be swayed in my thinking? What makes them believe it is their right to burden a woman who is already faced with a brutal and traumatic decision to make about her future?
I believe the in the right to choose. This from a 6 month pregnant "good" Catholic girl.
I agree, it's a woman's right and it is no one elses business. Everyone has their own circumstances and reasons for the choices they make and it is not up to others to judge or be in the position to take that choice away especially when the decision does not, in any way, affect those around the person making those choices.
As for protesting, I am all for making your voice heard and being passionate about something, but when it gets to the point where individuals are breaking the law and putting others at risk, those people are simply troublemakers and I really question their intelligence.
Meredith – You aint a Catholic if you feel a woman can end her pregnancy. I’m sure your child will thank you one day for not ending their life. That right to kill a fetus was granted legally only because liberal politicians wanted the female vote. That’s why their politicians and why most people think so little of them.
Last time I checked protests were also legal in this country.
Freddie: this country was not just built on "freedom of choice". It was also built on freedom of expression. If people want to express their opinions by protesting then so be it. Would you rather we ban protests altogehter? What does that do for society.
By the way..great web site Freddie!!
To those who believe ‘a woman has the right to choose…’ I suppose a parent can choose NOT to put their young child in a properly secured car seat or NOT take their child to the hospital if it’s critically sick.
The bottom line is that YES it’s your child or fetus (“...a rose by any other name…”) but the state will step in to ensure the best interests of the child.
Its time the Supreme court changes this un-constitutional and morally wrong law.
I have always wished that these folks would use their time to volunteer with the thousands of children already on this earth who could use their time and energy. Find a foodbank, childrens sports program, be a big brother or sister or better yet go home and spend some time with your own family....choice is exactly that, choice. Choose the children that are here already and make those lives better.
I guess you need to look at everything Argie.
Example 1: If the woman who gives birth will die and the baby will die, is an abortion wrong?
Example 2: If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant and she wishes to end the pregnancy right away, who are we to say she must give birth?
I think that abortions are used too much as a birth control and not often in the cases that I have used. Personally I am against abortion but it is not my place to make a woman follow my opinions. I think it is debatable when life is developing. Is it immediate? Is it after a month? These are tough questions that I wouldn't want to face.
As for protesting, they have the right to do it as long as they are civil.
What bothers me on this issue is the ones deciding it. It is decided by white, rich, politicians who are mostly MEN.
This issue should be decided by women, period. No man politician or otherwise should be telling women what to do with their bodies.
Religious nut jobs get into this issue and realistically, its a medical and a social issue.
not a religious issue.
Thanks Andrew – those are valid questions.
1. If there’s a chance the mother would die then the baby should be aborted.
2. This is a very rare and extreme case (one which the pro-choicers usually pull out). I can’t imagine the horror a rape victim goes through however the ethical thing to do would be to put the kid up for adoption.
In terms of my place or any other person’s place every citizen has the responsibility to stop the killing of an innocent individual. Once there’s conception, that fetus has rights as much as any women – or at least should have.
Freedom of choice never permits you to take the life of another individual.
Besides, outside of rape, a woman always has a choice of accepting the risks of being impregnated.
The wholesale slaughter of the unborn as a matter of "convenience" by those who don't use birth control in the first place is a travesty.
But Polit-cor whack jobs turn a blind eye to this slaughter... yet cry a river when damn REINDEER are threatened with being put down by the zoo, fer God's sake!
As far as it being 'my body... ALL MINE!" as the feminists shriek... what about the body contained within the womb? Does he/she not get a choice of avoiding the whine of the Morgentaler death wet-vac?
And what about that horror known as partial-birth abortion... in which a full term child (yes, a child, not a "fetus") is killed with a spike through the brain.
Abortion is not pretty... and should not be gussied up under the guise of 'my body, MY choice.' That canard just cheapens life.
I believe that it should be up to the individual to make the decision to end her pregnancy. I would rather that then another baby coming into this world not wanted or abused or forgotten. I can say this by person experience. I was 31 when I decided to end my pregnancy. I was newly seperated from my husband and had a fling with an ex. I was using protection but in the end ended up pregnant. Already having two children and being on my own again, I decided what was right for my family. I would have loved the child that I was carrying and in fact I did love what was growing inside. It was not a matter of thinking that I just killed my child but it was a matter if I could care for another child without being on the assistance of the government. I also had to think of the affects that this would bring to my other two children. It was not an easy decision and to this day three years later I am still not regretting the decision that I made. I am better for it as after this I started to get my head on straight and stopped having the fling and for that matter sleeping with anyone in fear of this happening again until I was ready. I am a single mother of two and I work full time with no assistance from the government. I own a house and a car. I believe that if I had this third child I would be on assistance, living in housing and not having the esteem that I have done it on my own.
I made the decision to let a life go, but do not see it as murder.
I believe that people have the right to protest something. that is fantastic that people feel the need and right to do this. However, I have a right to beable to not have it shoved into my face or the faces of my children. I am very open with my kids and would never shield them however when we are driving down the street and stopping at the corner by the hospital I dont believe that they need to see a fetus shoved into the view of the window of the car. Not only did this scare my daughter but it made my kids but now I had to have the serious discussion with them about what they were protesting. I did not have a problem with it but I do know that my girlfriend would have. She is not open as much with her children and would of not wanted those questions that my kids were shooting at me.
Why does anyone think they have a right to tell anyone what to do with their body? It is not a question of religion either. The good catholic meredith (as per the first comment) is a catholic and I feel that being catholic is not giving up with your own thoughts and beliefs are. I believe in god and satan and everything in between, I am a religious person but I can also stand up and say that I can have my own thoughts and opinions even if it does not agree with my religion.
And there was another comment about people having the right to put their children in a car seat, I still see this happening all the time so people do make that decision or the fact that their is a religion out their that does not allow for extreme medical stuff to be performed on their children and you can not tell me that the good ole mighty canada steps in everytime..........
Ahh, the right-to-lifers. Violent, unabashed, unadulterated, dogma ridden drones.
I think it should be my right to get into their faces outside of their churches about the atrocities that are contained within their 'good book' that are now ommitted for the revised edition now known as the 'New Testatment'.
Fear and oppression. It's about control and they love to extoll that upon the masses.
Blunt….: It appears that you have suffered a ‘blunt force trauma’ to your brain.
Good luck with your recovery.
This debate is done and Canada has led the way in determining that a woman, even if she's making a selfish choice, is making a choice that is directly connected to every nourishing capillary in her body.
To allow these (mostly) Catholic nutcakes to take us back in time would be the same as allowing Islamists to enshrine Sharia law, Sharia banking and the mandatory subjugation of women through clothing, driving laws and Islamist divorce decrees.
The Catholic religion thrives only in those countries that fear its retribution. In a pluralist, humanist nation like Canada, we have to fight these patriarchal Papists with two words: Back Off.
Paisley: How fitting – you must be related to that terrorist Ian Paisley. Anyway I digress.
Most people agree killing is wrong. Catholics (and other non-religious folks) believe a fetus is a separate being with the same rights as the mother. If you’ve ever seen an ultra sound you would have to admit that it’s in fact a living, breathing baby in a mother’s womb – not an unwanted growth.
Catholics are only trying to educate ignorant people like you who feel the mother has the right to end her pregnancy. It’s a tough battle……
"Paisley-Catholic nutcakes"
Thanks! I forgive you
Sure you get a right to choose... If you don't want to get pregnant... choose to not have sex.
I guess I give people too much credit, I thought people understood consequences and could behave accordingly.
Now if you get pregnant... why should a third person suffer and die for you inability to act at a higher level than a dog in heat? An unborn baby isn't a wart, or an abcess of some kind.
The reason people protest against abortion is to give people who don't have the chance a voice. It is their right in the society (at least for now).

I really dislike these people that always take the high road and don't offer any alternative but there own. Distakes happen. If anyone will stand in the way of an unwanted pregnancy, they had better be will to look after the child and help the mother for the rest of there lives. If not they are the real problem
