CanadianThinker is amused by the latest report released by Amnesty International.

Among other things, Canada is sighted for its mistreatment of refugees and the use of tasers and singled out for discrimination against aboriginals and anti-terrorism legislation.

We find it bewildering, that of all the human rights violations taking place around the globe, the world's greatest country is targeted.

Ironically, the preferred destination of just about anyone looking to escape oppression and discrimination.

The best are always going to be subjected to criticism. What of it? Robert Dziekanski shouldn't have died, yet tasers don't seem to going anywhere. The police don't know if the person they're about to taser has a medical condition and they could die.

Many natives continue to live in poverty, and terrorism legislation is deteriorating our freedoms. Let's improve, not deteriorate to American levels. I really don't want to immigrate to an European state.

Cited for .... bad spelling.

It is not the use of tasers. It is about the incredibly poor and inappropriate judgment for use on him. It is about not getting a translator or even asking for one. It is more about how the officers circled their wagons without talking to him. At no time was any overture of calm consideration made, sign language or the most primitive attempt at getting to the bottom of his agitation. While he was still alive. That is the issue. It is not about tasers. It is not about flashlights. If you want to get more ridiculous, their hands and booted feet are weapons, depending on the training...no, tasers are not the issue. I thought to myself at the time, it was like pack behaviour, unthinking and primeval. That was my first impression and remains so. I documented it in a book of condolences and my comment was not made public. I thought I spoke the truth then and I still believe it. Cheers.

One of the great things about our country is that we can accept criticisms openly. Some "charges" leveled at us will not be valid but we know that we do not live in perfection, despite how wonderful our nation is, and we are constantly striving to improve it for all of us.
