Yes Fred, Americans are dumb. What would that make Canadians? Retarded???

We’re so far behind the Americans in practically everything its embarrassing.

James Edgar on May 28, 2008 10:53 AM said:

Hey Argie want to back that up with at least 1 FACT?

Argie on May 28, 2008 11:03 AM said:

Wow where do I start?

World finance, IT, science, medical advances, their universities, media, the entertainment industry and so on and so on….

Even a smaller country like Australia has accomplished so much more than Canada. We are in fact the retarded cousin of those countries.

Andrew on May 28, 2008 11:16 AM said:

Again...no facts Argie.

How are we behind in IT? University of Waterloo produces some of the greatest IT minds in the world. Many companies recruit right from the University. Bill Gates visits annually.

How are we behind in Media?

Your love of the US is evident.

1. Who would consider the US in any way ahead when it comes to financial matters? Last I checked they were the country that was something like a trillion dollars or more in debt.

2. I couldn't believe it when I saw this story, because
the same thing happened over the weekend in Germany,
complete with the part about it being a joke.

Argie on May 28, 2008 11:28 AM said:

Three letters when it comes to IT: MIT

Media: The invention of the Ipod, TV, radio, photography, etc

I don’t love America. I’m just honest enough to admit that they’ve accomplished so much more than Canada has. When a Canadian call them ‘dumb’ I always get a chuckle out of it.

Geez I almost forgot, the computer we’re using, the internet that connects us, the electricity to operate our machines.

The automobile, the plane…………………..

Andrew on May 28, 2008 11:41 AM said:

I have explained this once before Argie.

The Americans did not soley invent the TV, radio or photograph.

The first camera was invented in England.

The TV was invented by a German, a Brit and an American.

But maybe you're right. I can see a pretty dumb Canadian posting here.

Argie,
Lets see if ya can fit both feet in your mouth!

James Edgar on May 28, 2008 11:53 AM said:

No Facts is right.

How about Insulin? Pancreas transplants? Both canadian.

And as stated NONE of your american advances are solely american .

The actual reality is that there are more dumb americans than canadians. How can that be you say? There 10 times more of them than there are of us. Therefore 10 times the nunber of dumb people. 10 times the number of smart people to in theory. But the dumb seem to have taken over south of the border. Yes we have our fair share but they have not taken over yet. They will but not yet.

Argie on May 28, 2008 12:05 PM said:

James: I have stated facts. What’s the problem; did you not learn how to read in Canada?

My point is that yes, there are a lot of dumb Americans but as a country they have outperformed us by a mile. Just admit it.

James Edgar on May 28, 2008 1:32 PM said:

Argie

You've stated generalities. NOT facts. Be specific and provide some evidence.

Argie on May 28, 2008 1:58 PM said:

OK James you win – you wore me down.

Canada is so much more superior to the US. In fact they’re dragging us down. I think we should boycott everything that comes out of the US or that was invented there and just retreat to our caves. We can build a fire because I’ll assume that wasn’t invented by an American.

Jamie on May 28, 2008 2:37 PM said:

Argie,
Looks like they both fit after all.

And still no facts!

James Edgar on May 28, 2008 2:42 PM said:

Where exactly did I say boycott the U.S. or even that they are worse than us???

I actualy think the U.s. is a great place. that does not stop me from stil thinking that they are on a slipery slope to disaster. George bush has done more harm to the U.S. than the last 3 presidents combined.

War in IRAQ was niether justifiable nor just.

The fact that Bush was elected twice is evidence to me that the U.S, is dumbing down. Maybe you like Bush and think otherwise.

Again I say (without any faith that you will ever understand) provide evidence that the U.S. miles ahead of us.

We have problem ,they have problems. We doo great things they do great things. So what.

Argie on May 28, 2008 2:54 PM said:

James: My statements or opinions according to you are self-evident. One example is that their universities rank way higher than any other country in the world is given below:

http://www.paked.net/higher_education/rankings/times_rankings.htm

Andrew on May 28, 2008 3:36 PM said:

Actually a lot of UK universities are in that list as well. So "way higher" is a bit of a misnomer. Also, I would be curious to know how they rank them.

I am not saying everyone in the US is dumb. That is a ridiculous statement. But you said they are miles ahead of Canada which is not true.

If Canada was so behind the US in intelligence wouldn't the Liberals be in power?

See..not everyone is stupid.

James Edgar on May 28, 2008 3:36 PM said:

The U.S. is certainly well represented on that list no question with 6/10 of the top ten and more than any other country. Also of note that the U.K. has 4/10 the top 10. Considering the U.S. has 6 times the population of the U.K. I'm far more impresed by them .

That by the way is circumstantial evidence at best. It is Opinion only and provides no criteria for how those rankings are decided.

Argie on May 28, 2008 3:55 PM said:

James & Andrew: No surprise about the Brits – I’m one.

I don’t have the list handy but how about Nobel Prize winners? I would bet anything that you would find the more Americans than Canadians per capita.

Just admit it, Americans in general are smarter. Give it up.

Max on May 28, 2008 6:53 PM said:

Sorry Argie - you're losing this one. Badly. Especially with that last sentence. I feel the same way about American-bashing as you. I think many Canadians have a compeletely unjustified, smug sense of superiority where are American cousins are concerned, and it really gets on my nerves. But to claim Americans are somehow "smarter" because of US accomplishments is just wrong. I deal with Americans all the time at work. They're no smarter (or dumber) than Canadians.

I guarantee you if you were to look into any of those industries you mentioned in your second post, you're going to find some big contributions from Canadians who have moved to the US.

Bottom line in this whole argument - Canadians and Americans are not nearly as different intellectually or morally as most Canadians would like you to believe.

Max on May 28, 2008 6:55 PM said:

Look how smart I am - using "are" instead of "our". Did I just completely invalidate my point? Whoops.

Argie on May 29, 2008 10:05 AM said:

Hey Maximilian: I’m glad you brought up the point about the Canadian smugness towards Americans – it drives me nuts too and only proves the pettiness and jealousy among those bashing Americans.

In regards to losing this argument – I disagree. There are two separate debates here. One is “are Americans dumber than Canadians?” and the second is “have Americans accomplished more than Canadians?”. The second debate is self evident – the yanks have accomplished way way more than us. To actually debate that is crazy. The first debate is really impossible to intellectually argue one way or another. I was just having fun with Andrew & James about that debate but seriously it’s like arguing ‘my dad is stronger than your dad’. What’s the point???

Admittedly I wasted a good portion of yesterday posting/arguing with A & J but luckily it was a slow day.
