Another Problem For Timmy's

It's alright to feed the homeless, but only on the street.

I really don’t blame the Tim’s mangt. I wouldn’t want to sit in a Tim’s having my lunch with a homeless person beside me. I’m just being honest. The homeless person should get her self to a shelter and the ‘do-gooder’ should not enable the practice of this person living on the street.

Homeless people belong in either a shelter, an institution or a prison – not the sidewalk.

Are you kidding me Argie. Do you work in a restaurant? I do I happen to be an RGM of one and as long as my "couple" of homeless that come into my establishment do not cause problems then they are welcome to come in. I am not enabling them in anyway. In fact, one of my gentlmen that does come in has a disorder of some sort and he is the nicest man ever. He comes in with change that he has found (as I have never seen him beg for it) and pays for something small and comes in to eat it and most of the time he takes it to go, espically in the summer. He never causes a problem and most of the time does not like his order bagged because he is trying his best not to damage the planet anymore then it has been. This genleman has never bothered a sole in our establishment and actually does some clean up outside when no one is around because I am thinking we are nice to him. I remember one time someone was going to buy him a meal and he totally rufused and left. He is not looking for handouts just some compassion. Some people can not help it if they are out on the street and in those chances I am more then happy to help.

stacy on May 23, 2008 11:15 PM said:

oh and I must add the attitude that the worker had towards the person buying the meal was out of line. Not all homeless people make a mess or cause problems. Everyone should be treated like a human being not dirt regardless of what their statue is as long as they are not causing disruption. And you know what, I wouldn't mind sitting beside a homeless person because maybe I can find out why they are on the streets and you know what,,,,just maybe I will be able to help them off the street and get them into the shelter or whereever they need to get to...........

Stacy – First of all, what’s ‘RGM’?

Secondly please tell me which restaurant you work at because I wouldn’t want to eat somewhere that welcomes homeless people. If I want to hang around a homeless person I’ll go to a shelter.

I realize the average citizen is only trying to help these people but really everyone would be better off if these people were rounded up and put in institutions, hospitals or jail (as I mentioned previously).

If you really want to help these folks, volunteer at a shelter.

Argie...

RGM is Regional General Manager (I think).

This is another case of not having all the facts. The homeless person in question had caused problems before and was not allowed inside.

stacy on May 26, 2008 6:10 PM said:

But what is the difference if this person was making problems before, they were not making problems at that moment. This person was sitting there eating quietly for all that anyone knows. And the question also comes up to what kind of problems? Because maybe the problems that they say have gone on were not really problems at all and maybe the person just wanted to warm up at a table in the winter time for a couple of minutes.

I dont welcome homeless people as I only have two that come into the restaurant and The one guy only comes in to buy food and in the winter is the only time he comes in to eat. The other gentlman comes in every 4 to 6 months and gets a glass of water in the summer maybe two times at the most and in the winter I seen him only twice to warm up for about five minutes. The one gentlman I have not seen in about 3 to 4 months. I dont live in an area that has a lot of homeless people.

Maybe someone should go out an try to help these people into hospitals and institutions or help with the many back on your feet programs out there but then our taxes would go up and then Argie you would be on here complaining on how your tax dollars are helping the homeless. I would rather help the homeless then the people sitting on welfare who are better off then me a person who has worked her ass off for what she has

The point of banning someone from a place is to keep them away. Just because the person was acting calmly at the time doesn't mean they were not going to act up. In the past I have managed a restaurant and banned someone for making lewd comments to a 13 year old customer. I would not welcome him back under any means. I don't care how nice he acted on one particular day. If I was asked about the banning I could not give reasons to other people for fear of a law suit since I didn't have any evidence other than my own ears.

I don't know the exact particulars in this case but we jump all over Tim Horton's before getting all the facts or even meeting the person in question.

Yes some homeless people need our help and we should give it to them but sometimes they can help themselves too.

I have also been wary of assisting some homeless people after some of them were exposed as not being homeless at all. The "Shaky" lady in Toronto being a popular one.

(Sweet) Pam on May 27, 2008 2:01 PM said:

Right on about the Shaky Lady. I was up at Yonge & Bloor recently when I was accosted by a woman begging for money. She shoved her hands in my face and I couldn't help but notice she had a French manicure. Needless to say I told her to get lost...

Argie on May 27, 2008 2:26 PM said:

Like I wrote before homeless people fit into 3 separate categories.

1. The mentally ill
2. Criminals/punks who don’t want to work but would rather beg or harass people for money
3. Genuinely poor people who have no other way to survive

The first category belong in hospitals/institutions. The second belong in jail if they continue to break the law. The third belong in a shelter until they can get back on their feet a make a go of their life.

With this there would be no homeless people on our streets. Problem solved!
