Stephane Dion is pretty funny too.

To propose a carbon tax in Canada shows how out of touch he is with reality.

CanadianThinker has made this point before. When it comes to the environment, most Canadians are two faced.

When asked about whether they care about the environment, or whether they’d support drastic measure to save the planet, they say yes!

But what else are they going to say in public? Of course they’re going to say the popular thing.

However, once in the privacy of a ballot booth, the opinion, attitude and position of Canadians quickly changes when they know it could cost them money. Reality sets in.

It could be political suicide, and even his own party members know

Carbon tax a tough sell, Dion told

I take offence to the Canadian people being labeled as two-faced by Canadian Thinker. Any government party initiating a new tax, along with the layer of government that will evolve with it, deserves to be scrutinized. The entire issue of buying carbon credits is a farce, and there is no telling what will happen to these new tax dollars.
Without the use of elaborate tax subsidized studies I can say that most Canadians are changing their living habits, the industry I work in (printing) is racing with its competitors to be the “greenest” and most marketing campaigns our customers develop have an environmental pitch; what is so two-faced about that?
I believe that the Canadian people are just trying to protect themselves and the future from the real two-faced opportunists on both sides of the issue, and should be respected for being apprehensive at this time.

If the Liberals go ahead with this proposal they are toast. Once people realize what this scheme will cost them, support will drop like a stone.
You are absolutely correct about Canadian hypocricy when it comes to laying out their money for environmental issues. Right now, most people are deluding themselves into believing this will only impact large corporations and will have little effect on them. Once the Conservatives start asking the tough questions about the carbon tax, people will realize that this will decimate their household budgets. I have a long list of questions I would need answered before I would even consider supporting any such plan.
