Fred: I don’t think its just the ‘bible thumping yanks’ that are making a big stink about this. Most normal people kind of wince at the thought of a 15 year old girl posing proactively in an international magazine. The young girl and her parents made a mistake by agreeing to do it but I don’t think her career should be negatively impacted by it.
Most people look to 18 as the accepted age for these types of pictures. After that its do whatever you want to do. After all Fred would you want your daughter posing like this at 15?

Argie, you didn't ask my opinion, but I would definitely let my daughter pose like this. All girls pose before the mirror at that age.
What complicates this is Cyrus's celebrity. Let's just forget for a moment whether she should or should not have posed for it, because this isn't some photo-shopped cell phone snappie. This is lovely work of art composed by a world class photographer. There is nothing sexual about it - except what some might choose to see.
The best thing is, when she's 50, she'll have this beautful portrait of herself to look back on. Beats the year book photo anytime...

Sorry Pam - gotta disagree. Nothing sexual about it? I don't want to sound like a perv here, but an obviously naked female sitting on a bed, with a "come hither" look over her shoulder doesn't scream "come read me a bed-time story". This might be a lovely work of art if the subject was of legal age. Otherwise, it's creepy.

Well, sorry Max. Now I have to disagree. Because I have a book of photos of movie stars from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, and they are beautiful. Yes, most are "come hither" shots but they are beautifully done. I don't know what age the participants were when they did them and I don't care. They are film history. There is absolutely nothing creepy about them. And neither are the Miley photos.

Fred hasn't posted the entire photo Max. She's not naked, she's wrapped in a sheet. Would it be okay if she were fully clothed and gazing over her shoulder? Or is it her expression that's bothering you?
And I'm sure Billy Ray (like all familes) is in possession of some naked baby photos of his daughter. Isn't that sexual, creepy?

Pam, of course that example is not sexual or creepy - unless of course the baby is heavily made up, and posed in a provocative way. That's really the point though, isn't it? The fact is, this girl is still a kid, by anyone's definition, yet she was made to look beyond her years and put in a clearly provocative position. I'll say it again - that's creepy.
Let me put it this way - if you showed this photograph to any number of men who had no idea about the circumstances behind it (i.e.: how old she is, who she is, etc.) and asked them if there was anything sexual about this photo, what percentage do you think would say "Yes"? Sorry, but I wouldn't feel comfortable about presenting my 15 year old daughter in this manner - if you are, great....I guess.

I don’t know how anyone can’t see that the pictures are provocative. Yes the pictures were professionally and tastefully done IF you ignore the fact Miley is 15. That’s the whole friggin’ point!
If there is majority of mothers who feel its OK for their 15 year old daughter to pose in a major magazine like Miley, then its no wonder today’s society is pooched.

First of all - I hope it does cause MLB some major angst. Their role in all of this is significant. Selig should be forced to step down. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE knew what was going on. And rather than confront it Selig and his merry band of synchophants decided to ignore it. Ignore it as Bonds heads swelled to gargantuan proportions. Clemons is a major league tool and frankly deserves what he's about to get......:-)

How stupid is Billy Ray Cyrus. Apparently he was on set and approved the pictures of daughter Miley, taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz that appear in Vanity Fair magazine.
