I really believe most Canadians live in a foggy dreamworld when it comes to the atrocities taking place in Mexico. I used to travel yearly to Mexico but that came to an end after the Ianero murders and the crappy justice that their family received down there.
Wake up Canadians for christ sake.

the prime minister pushed for her release? that's laughable. his people were too busy partying and leaking information.
what the pm really should be doing is issue a travel advisory, warning canadians that mexico is not as safe as they believe - frankly, i think i'd rather go to cuba, but that's a whole other issue.

Brenda Martin did not deserve what she got, despite her wacked out nastiness toward the Canadian government. The Conservative government stepped in and did the right thing all along, but people generally recognize that they were helping a low-life bitch.
Brenda Martin left Canada to live a higher life in a third world country where there is lots of sun, no Canadian taxes and lots of cheap living at the expense of the poorer classes. And then, when she got nailed by the corruption that the people of that country have to live with everyday, she expects Canada, the country that she abandoned, to come to her rescue. And it did. And the fact is that she would have rotted there had the Conservative government not intervened at great expense.
Surely, anyone who goes to another country should not move there in the first place if they are not willing to accept the system and government that is in place there.
Where people are exploited to the extent that they are in Mexico (and Cuba where journalists and political prisoners are jailed routinely), it should not be a surprise to anyone, least of all Brenda Martin, what happened. Do you think that she will ever admit that it was a mistake moving there in the first place, and that she should carry some of the blame? Nope. In her mind, it is the Canadian government's fault.
In respect of the Canadian government's leaking of information, that was done to defend itself against a ludicrous accusation of Brenda Martin's that the government was not doing anything. In an interview, she made an accusation that the government was not doing anything. The "leaked" document was then pulled out and shown to her. And, on the spot, she admitted that the contents of the document were true. In other words, she admitted that she was lying, but with her lies having been exposed, she then said that she is going to make a complaint to the privacy commissioner. (I am referring to what was reported in a Toronto Star article two weekends ago.)
What does someone do when they are accused so falsely by someone like Brenda Martin? Sit back and let her lie. Whoever leaked that document showed a very human response to the unjust accusations made by an ungrateful low-life. Why does she have it in her to lie so much? Just how low on the decency scale is she?
I applaud the government for doing what it did do in this case, and I am not even a Conservative. I think that Brenda Martin owes a thank you to the government and to the Prime Minister for personally intervening in respect of a mess that she herself walked into.
I was surprised to read the results of a poll on sympatico/msn that, as of this morning showed that fully 45 per cent of the respondents thought that Brenda Martin got what she deserved. Even I responded along with the 55 per cent saying that the punishment was cruel and unwarranted, while still believing that the government did everything it could. But, certainly, anyone who goes to Mexico takes a huge risk and it is time that Canadians started boycotting Mexico as both a tourist destination and, as was the case with Brenda Martin, a place to live.

She was found guilty
Do you think her victims feel sorry for her. I don't
If you are going to commit a crime in a foreign land then you are either stupid or naive to believe that you should not have to abide by there laws, and punishments. If
she was arrested here in Canada for the same thing you same people would be calling her names.
you want to know what makes Canada unique its this we are fair weather supports and are much like sheep. Who ever screams the loudest right or wrong gets to the headlines
and we as Canadians just suck it in to spite what makes sense
whats they old saying
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time
that applies to foreign crimes as well

I am somewhat scratching my head today (Friday, April 25th) after reading the latest in the Toronto Star. I cannot but help but now agree that she does not deserve any sympathy or help from Canada. The latest in the news if that she is complaining to Liberal MP Dan McTeague (and McTeague's complainting to the press) that the transfer is not happening fast enough because the Canadian government has not paid the Mexican authorities HER fine of $3500. There is NO WAY that the Canadian government should be using tax dollars to pay that money. That is her fine. How dare that bitch expect us to pay for her fine. The nerve of her. At the very least, the paying the fine is her responsibility and she should accept responsibility for that small aspect of the expense. It is enough that the government has paid so much in other expenses getting her out of a mess of her own making, namely her being in Mexico in the first place. Whatever sympathy I had for her, it is totally gone now.
