Yep I agree. You should keep a high points scoring machine on the shelf. Especially someone known for racking up alot of assists over goals because he unselfishly feeds them to linemates so they can score.

PS there may be a touch of sarcasm above. How about years of crap as linemates. That has more to do with playoff exits etc.
PSS the leafs were playing well before his injury with him and after. Has more to do with nothing to play for that has them loose as everyone in their hearts knows it is impossible to make the playoffs.

Freddie - a little consistency, please. Last week you were ripping the guy for NOT playing (with a torn groin), this week you're hoping he doesn't come back. Which is it?
Secondly, where are you getting your stats? The Leafs played 17 games in the 99 playoffs (against Philly, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo). Sundin played in them all and ended up with 16 points, including 2 game-winners. So really, you have one example of the team "falling apart" after he returns from an injury.

Fred, those of us who have listened to you on the radio for years, and who read your blog know you don't like Sundin, though God only knows why seeing as he's probably one of, if not the greatest Leafs player ever.
Anyway, did you catch the comments by, I believe it was Stajan (note the 'j' not a 'g') about the prospect of Sundin's return. He said that they probably don't try as hard when he's around because they are all waiting for him to do something whereas when he's out, they have to do something. So they need to just keep doing what they are doing whether he's in or out of the lineup. Simple really.
Sundin is a great player and the only thing that would hurt the Leafs chances is if he comes back too early and can't do what he is normally capable of. So I say let him rest, make absolutely sure he is healthy before letting him back in the lineup because there is no urgency. Make sure that when he does come back, he becomes an impact player and not a handicap.

Macknife is absolutely correct. Make sure Sundin is very close to 100% before playing him. Too bad Tucker didn’t take the same advice.

I think you guys are counting them out way too soon. Yes there is a slim chance, but, they can over take the Sabres with a win and tie Washington, putting them just two back of a slumping Boston team. With the way Toskala has been playing, Dont count your leafers out just yet.
