More Fun With The "R" Word

March 7, 2008 @ 08:48

I’m not going to pass judgment on any of these stories because I’m sick and tired of it.

I’m sick and tired of the abuse that’s been inflicted upon the word “racist” and how its use has become so convenient for those who want to stifle opinion and debate.

From now one, I’m going to compile news stories that deal with racism and put them all together. You can read them and decide for yourself.

I'm going to create a special "raciscm" column in my archives, so I urge all FreddieP.ca readers to send along any stories you see about racists because they really should be exposed so the world can see what an awful country Canada is.

As for the Rob Ford story, John Derringer probably put it best yesterday when he said,

“Now you can’t even compliment someone on working hard without being called a racist.”

Sometimes the world can chew my hog.

Rob Ford
is a racist.

The CBC is racist.

Gordon Gilchrist is a racist.

The Department of Justice is racist.

Could someone explain to me why & when the word Oriental became offensive?
I must of missed that lesson in the Star.....

I wonder why someone decided ‘Asian’ was the proper word to describe people of that race. ‘Asian’ used to be a word to describe a person from the continent of Asia. People from Asia can be any number of races therefore Orientals using the term ‘Asian’ is an inaccuracy.

I personally don’t care what people call me. They can call me white, European, Canadian….. just don’t call me French that would be an insult!

Rob Ford. Idiot yes, Racist? I'm not sure but I'll give him this one. Not racist.
CBC, NOT racist.
Gordon Gilchrist, Not racist but will lose his spot on that board I bet.

More Political Correctness crap.

Rob Ford is a great big idiot. I am sure that he didn't mean his remarks in a racist way. I am not sure if "Oriental" is offensive. I thought it was but I can't be sure. It sounds like an antiquated word.

CBC? I didn't know Francophone was a race. Isn't a francophone someone who speaks French as their first language. So couldn't that be anyone of any race? Idiot.

Gilchrist....he borders on some stupid things. I wouldn't defend this guy. I don't know if I would persecute him either though.

Rob Ford is definitely not a racist, I wouldn't hire him as my speach writer, though.

Why some of you label him an idiot is beyond me. Toronto would be in much better shape if all of their councillors would be as business minded and hard working as him. The real reason behind all this "hoopla" is that he stirs up shit as much as possible(and rightfully so)and the major and his followers are pissed because they know that they will never be able to get rid of him. Most of his constituents like him and he will be easily re-elected for many more terms to come.

With regards to the CBC and the Francophone, the decision wasn't made due to racism and more important, who cares.

Gilchrist said what the silent majority thinks but is afraid to say. Good for him. I fully agree with his article and if people think that I am a racist (which I am definitely not) then I don't really give a fl..fu...

Rob Ford is an idiot.

There are a lot of reasons..drunken stupor at a leaf game, ingorance around AIDS, and a few others.

No good EVER, has come from that cursed term "politically correct". It's done nothing but spawn a generation of over-sensitive cry-babies. It seems like everybody's a victim, oh poor you.

Bob – Great post. Toronto is lucky to have a councilor like Rob Ford. He’s everything that most Torontonians are not: hard working, politically incorrect, fiscally responsible and most of all honest. This is why he sticks out like a sore thumb in this deteriorating city.

John Oakley had an Orien - sorry, Asian Toronto councillor on this morning for his take on the Ford thing. The guy referred to 'Oriental' residents about 2 sentences in. I guess it's okay for you to say Oriental if you're Asian, much like it's okay to use the dreaded n word if you're black. It's enough to make you dizzy.

Andrew, if you judge a man only by his very few mistakes without taking his achievements into considerationt then you aren't any better than the rest of them at the Toronto City Hall.

I suppose you are always trim and proper no matter what the occasion. Well, some of us have to be perfect. Right?

There is being a jerk and having a good time. The guy was a jerk. Don't compare me to the people of City Hall. Rob Ford fights things for the sake of fighting things. Sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong. But his arrogance and ignorance cannot be forgotten. Have him run for Mayor and win and then see how great Rob Ford is.

I like that he makes everyone accountable for their budgets on his website.

If you don't judge a man by his mistakes and the way he handles those mistakes what exactly do you judge him on?

Bob

Achievments my friend achievments and hopefully he learns from his mistakes.

A good councillor doesnt' necessarily make a good mayor. However, I don't think it would be too hard to be better than the disastreous Miller.

Anyway, enough airtime spent on this subject. You have you're opinion and I have mine. It's all good.

All three cases illustrate the straw-man fallacy perpetuated by many who sling the R word about. When they can't construct a logical rebuttal, they attack the person.

It's all very simple, we have a problem in Ontario we can't find an answer for.

Blame Mike Harris, there problem solved, everybody back to work.

Re. Mark Persaud
References for someone not being offered a position were not checked.Mark Persaud believes this is sabotaging the process. I think Mark hasn't got a handle on due process. That would make him a poor lawyer. Here's a thought, maybe the people promoted over him were better lawyers.
