Freddie P. On TV

March 21, 2008 @ 12:35

I'm off to join my friends at CH LIve at 5:30 for a frank discussion of "pantsing".

What is "pantsing?"

Read this story and you'll get an idea.

A 15-YEAR-OLD JAMES CITY COUNTY BOY IS FACING A SEXUAL BATTERY CHARGE FOR PULLING DOWN THE PANTS OF A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL OVER THE WEEKEND, JAMES CITY POLICE SPOKESMAN MIKE SPEARMAN SAID. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED JUST BEFORE 7 P.M. SATURDAY ON DEHAVEN COURT IN THE LAFAYETTE SQUARE APARTMENT COMPLEX. SPEARMAN SAID THE BOY APPROACHED THE GIRL FROM BEHIND WHILE SHE WAS TALKING WITH A FRIEND AND PULLED DOWN HER PANTS IN FRONT OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE. HE THEN FLED THE SCENE, BUT WAS LATER TURNED IN AFTER POLICE CONTACTED HIS MOTHER. POLICE TOOK THE TEENAGER INTO CUSTODY SATURDAY EVENING AND HE WAS DETAINED AT THE MERRIMAC JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER.

WHILE IT MIGHT SEEM LIKE A HARSH REACTION TO A CHILDISH PRANK, "ANY UNLAWFUL TOUCHING IS AN ASSAULT," SPEARMAN SAID. SEXUAL BATTERY IS A CLASS 1 MISDEMEANOR - PUNISHABLE BY UP TO A YEAR IN JAIL AND A $2,500 FINE FOR ADULTS. HOWEVER, THE 15-YEAR-OLD'S CASE WILL BE HANDLED IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM.

I say major over-reaction.

I just saw your piece who was the blonde bimbo that was on arguing with you. She was a major wacko. You know that shit happened all the time in highschool guys to guys guys to girls girls to girls girls to guys. Nobody ever called the cops. The problem is the girl was probably skanked out and going commando with no under pants and they all got a snap shot of her no no place. But putting this guy in jail you were right it has more potential harm for the kid then the act of pnatsing does to the girl.

As much as I think this is an overreaction, I think Frank referring to a 14-year-old girl as skanking it out is too much.

I find it sad that you actually think this is an over-reaction. Assault is assault and your views are what help contribute to the problem with the lack of morals and respect today. Society is more complacent to the acts of violence and is becoming de-sensitized to acts that are inappropriate. What starts out as "a Prank" can turn out to be something more. How will this boy learn that this is not acceptable if people like yourself don't feel that there should be consequences to his actions? How dare we actually feel something for the girl who this happened to. I am sickened that this is the attitude that you have. I pray that your family is never affected by some sort of violence and that others feel you are over reacting. Thank you Lorraine for standing up for what is right and proper.

Andrew having a daughter that is now 15 I've seen how 14 year olds are dressing. When girls in grade 8 going into grade 9 are showing their thongs at the back of their shorts/pants wearing tube tops and promoting pre to pubesent cleavage then yes that is by definition skanking it out. Carolyn there should be consequences but this over dramatizing things. How can you say for a second we are becoming more de-sensitized to things when reactions like this are occuring. Give me a break Carolyn and say something intelligent, because the way things are going today soceity is to protective to the point of almost smothering children. When children in highschool can't be deducted marks for handing in projects late or red pen can't be used to mark tests and utilizing a grading system with A's B's C's and D's can't be used because it could make the child feel hurt then we have a problem. Can you imagine handing in a project in the business world three months late and having no reprecussion for it?
No I think we have become too sensitized to acts of pantsing and all the other stuff that goes on with youth. Should he be punished there is no question of it, but being put in jail and charged that's hardly punishment fitting the crime. As for your friend Lorraine, she wasn't standing up for what it right and proper she was taking the holier than though approach.

Fred next time that witch decides that she is going to speak over you at every oppurtunity you should just start yelling phrases from the simpsons or family guy to get her to stop and listen.

Now this is interesting. I did the exact same prank on my brother-in-law the exact same day. Me, my wife, my sister-in-law, and my nephew were all in the room, and we all had a good laugh! The difference, I guess, is that we're adults in the privacy of their home, and this case happened outside between teens. Over-reaction? A bit. But there obviously should be some consequences, just not so extreme.

Now as for girls these days dressing as skanks at a young age, that opens up a whole other can of worms...

Frank, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Being a parent myself of 2 young adults (son & daughter) I obviously agree that your children have to be protected. However, if this would have happened to my daughter I would have first tried to deal with it the "old fashioned way".

1)Take your daughter with you and go over to the boys parents and explain to them what happened and let them know that this is totally unacceptable and if it ever happens again you will press charges.

2) Let your daughter tell this boy how demeaning this was to her.

3) Ask for an apology.

If received from both, the boy and his parents, accept it and go on with life.

If no apology is received go the legal way if necessary.

Carolyn - I'm not sure where you got the impression that anyone feels there should be no consequences - the point is involving the police over this is more than extreme. For an appropriate parental response to this "assault", please read Bob's post - and re-read it as many times as is necessary until you have calmed down and can see the rationale clearly.

I guess you can all classify me as an over reactor. If my daughter had this happen to her I would want see that the 15 year old boy isn’t able to walk upright for several months.

Frank - I agree many girls dress like skanks but that is not the point. No girl or boy for that matter deserves to have this happen to them. I really don’t care if people did this 20 or 30 year ago. Anything or any act that is not welcomed by the recipient is unlawful and should be prosecuted.

Bob – Your solution involves too much common sense. With today’s youth, their useless impotent parents and how they are able to get away with practically everything it simply won’t work.

Uh oh looks like Argie was on the wrong end of pantsing one too many times in highschool. Might explain reasons for a lot of your postings on here. Should be prosecuted? Are you kidding me it was dumb to do but by no means deserving of time in jail. How about we use jail for real criminals, can't seem to put enough gang bangers behind bars as fast they could this 15 year old.

Frank: Not surprisingly you misunderstood my post. If this is something that happened between friends and its an understood practice (I know this sounds very legalese) then its OK. In this case the girl/victim didn’t welcome it therefore the perp should be punished. Understand my position now Frank?

BTW were you more prone to pants guys or girls? Just asking.

Frank and Argie - do you know of the Genarlow Wilson case in Georgia?
Hopefully a calmer "head" can prevail.

I dunno Fred. Is age 15 really considered the age of a child anymore? Not in our society; probably not in any society. This young man is a young adult. Part of growing is realizing that there are conscequences to actions.

What he did was against the law. You yourself have stated over and over that kids get away with too much today. And I agree. So, if what he did was against the law, penalize him.

And while people may not like what the girl was wearing, taste is a matter of choice.

The problem is...

I see a lot of little pricks hanging out, whose antics piss me off; which is unfortunate: they leave a lasting impression. In reality, I think most kids are probably good kids.

I have 2 kids. They're good kids. Their friends are good kids....

Some guy pantses a girl in front of a group, and runs off? See, now that pisses me off....

I hope the little bastard got pantsed himself. In jail. By a 16 year old boy. Who can't run anywhere.

Now that would be justice.
