I get a laugh out of people who comment that only the rich can save $5000 a year.
Most middle income people should be able to save that kind of money if their priorities are set properly. But that is the problem in today's society. Most people want everything right now, forget about saving first.
I for one don't have a problem to save 5 grand because I don't need everything "fashionably new" all the time. I replace things when they no longer work. Right now my 30 year old stove, my 20 year old dishwasher and fridge are working just fine. Thank you.

I disagree with you, Bob. A lot of people would have problems saving $5000/year. You obviously have no understanding of what a lot of the average people are going through.
If you are only making 35000/year before tax, saving $5000 a year can hurt or become impossible.
I don't have a problem with the plan, I think it may encourage people to save a bit more, but it is a bit better for the "better off". I won't say rich because $5000/year or $450/month isn't "rich".

Yes this budget was a little drab, but when we work on reducing debt and cutting taxes. Thats a good thing!
