Hello folks... Donna Skelly filling in for the tanned and buff Freddie P...
One of my favourite male stars is the handsome, talented actor George Clooney. Like many women my age, "George" epitomizes everything good about the male species, tall, dark, gorgeous and apparently intelligent. But my heart was broken recently when I came across a picture of my beloved with a young, very young woman.. apparently his latest squeeze. How could my George betray his more mature fans by falling into the arms of this leggy beauty? And why, may I ask, are men so enamoured by women half their age?
Seriously, what is it about a young woman that causes a man to lose control of his faculties? My colleague Lawrence says these men are simply attempting to capture their lost youth. My co-host Mark says it's an ego boost and a fun one at that. But do women seek the same reaffirmation? I have only one friend who has ever dated a younger man and she says it isn't by choice . Rachel says the only men interested in her are much younger because they are looking for financial security and experience. Or is age even a factor in 2008. Perhaps but I still can't imagine being attracted to someone two generations apart. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'll take an older, sophisticated, confident man over a young buck any day.

To answer your question, it’s because WE CAN.
I think Sylvester Stallone said it best - and I’m paraphrasing here “…when you want to buy a dog you get a puppy, not an older dog”. The same applies to a stove, fridge, dishwasher, etc…..
Life is good for most of us because like yourself, most women tend to be attracted to older men so that works well for older men who like the younger ones.

I'll just address the Clooney thing: in addition to being "tall, dark, gorgeous and apparently intelligent", he's a man child, unable to let go of his party posse or his lack of commitment. I would argue that he dates younger women because women his own age aren't interested in Peter Pans.

yea it's a lot of things all rolled up into one.
i dated a much younger girl a couple of years back and the appeal was a combo of
A)she was hot
B)she was 23 (i was 36)
C)she was a "professional dancer" for one of our city's pro sports teams
D)and, given her age and position in life, her main priority was partying (ie no pressure for commitment - quite the opposite actually)
It was absolutely perfect, for a while anyway.
After the initial buzz wore off, we just didn't have that much in common at the end of the day.
But man oh man was it fun.

I think older guy / younger attractive chick is a fun thing - yes, maybe an ego boost. The bottom line is, most older guys don't get the opportunity to get the young centerfold type. So, guys like to dream. Just because you can't afford a Porche 911, doesn't mean you don't wish you could take one for a ride. For us married folks, it's just eye candy !! Great to look at, just don't touch !!

I work in a job where the majority of females are 18 to 27 years old. Due to my work schedule I really have no time to go out anywhere so the only females I associate with are in that age bracket.
Yes, some of them are childish. But others for their age are very mature and act twice as old for what age they really are.
Haven't dated any of them but if they'd ask me I'd say YES. Even if just to talk over a coffee but never bothered asking as I know I'll be accused of being a pervert.
An ego boost? True.
Can't speak for others but I've noticed those my age and older complain too much. While the younger ones do complain at times they know when to stop bitching and start having fun. Something the older ones haven't learned.
Now Donna I ask who would you rather date? Someone who is constantly negative or someone who is always positive/upbeat and wants to have fun?

I would take a mature 35-40 year old women over a firm 20 year old any day.They now more and they know what you want. Its not just wham bam it is an actual experience. One that should be experienced.
I would be curious to know the average age of the men posting on this blog
if I had to guess it would be early 20 -30

I dated a 23 yr old when I was 38 (I just turned 41). The thrill of dating a young sexy girl became tiresome when I asked what do you want to do. She replied, I don't know, what do you want to do. This could go on for hours.
I will take someone with a purpose and a life path over that any day.
PS Donna you are one hot woman. Rumor is your male students at part time teaching cannot concentrate. I don't blame them.
