Boycott The Rose

February 14, 2008 @ 08:30

Hey, I a realize everybody's got to make a living and you've got to take advantage when opportunity arises, but part of the free market system is our opportunity to say "no."

Once again today, with the blessing of my sweet wife Delyse, who makes no demands on Freddie P. come Valentines Day, I will boycott the rose.

A few years back I paid sixty dollars for a dozen roses that were priced at half that just a few days before and Delyse was the first one to tell me not to get sucked in.

I started to buy her beautiful bouquets of fresh cut flowers and that's what I plan to do today as well.

Yes, the price on these increase as well, but not to the extent that roses do as florists play on the guilt and the weakness of men who are married to demanding she-devils.

If you don't want to get flowers you can always buy one of those stupid goddamn Vermont Bears that everyone is talking about, or you can always go to lingerie.

Something of the crotchless variety. Women are always touched by such things.

Freddie My wife and I got into a huge fight a couple of years ago about exactly this I sent her flowers to work and she called me ,the first words out of her mouth were not thank you .They were "how much" when I told her she told me never to by her roses again for valentines day.
she said I could have taken her out for a nice night out. Know I don't even buy her flowers we go out for Dinner

Fortunately my girlfriend agrees with me that Valentine's day is a bunch of bullshit.

Don't get me wrong. I do romantic things for her..but I do them on,say, a random Tuesday in August..for no reason whatsoever..not because Hallmark tells me to.

So..no teddy bears..no roses..no chocolate..and most importantly,no resentment. We don't buy Christmas gifts for each other either since we're collectively shelling out $$$$ for family members, nieces, nephews. Instead, we just treat each other to a night out in January.

We're practical that way, and can be romantic on our own terms. May not work for all couples, but it does for us.

Ryan, I couldnt agree more with you!
V-Day is just a cash Grab!!
My Boyfriend and I celebrate our love for each other everyday! I dont need Halmark to tell me how I feel on a certain day!!!

I BOYCOTT V-DAY!!!!

I just have to weigh in on this because I too think that Valentine's Day is ridiculous. I will not now or ever have bought into the commercialism and guilt that is foisted on a gullible public by retailers and manufacturers out to make a buck. This applies to Christmas and Mother's and Father's Day as well but that's another can of worms that I'm not going to open today. Valentine's Day is just all very silly and cheapens love by playing on feelings of guilt and fear of loss. Especially for men, who seem to have to bear the brunt of this. Most ads are directed at them and the hot water they will be in if they neglect to make a purchase on some overpriced item or fake feelings of "romance" that they just don't have. I would feel that my relationship of almost 30 years with my husband was rather pathetic if I felt slighted because of not receiving something on a day that is simply another way of displaying our society's chronic need to identify with material things and one-up each other by doing it bigger and better. When and why did we become so shallow? And for those of you who don't think one thing has to do with the other, ask yourself if you would feel diminished in some way if your partner chose to ignore this day. If you find the answer is yes than it proves my point.

You may have missed it in Florida. Christine Nunziata was fired from her trustee position.

Since I am in between jobs, this V day I did something different. While my wife slept, I taped a .79 Lindor chocolate to the onsuit mirror and wrote "Love you" in big letters with red lipstick beside it.
When my wife saw it in the morning she almost cried and told me it was the best V day gift she every got. Lindor chocolate .79
Wife's gratitude for doing something different.... priceless

Bravo, Linda. You said it in a nutshell. The only thing to add is that schools should ban Valentines Day.

Constructing a Mosque at Ground Zero has to be the silliest plot within the history of humans, I actually sense that it's purposely calculated, at best, to insight conflict. I am no conspiracy theorist however , it is possibly shameful or wicked, perhaps both equally. vanessa

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.

Yet time and time again CVs arrive that waffle on for pages and pages without telling you what you need to know; won't come through on email properly; are a celebration of the person's ability to use complex formatting but don't tell you what they did for their last job and so on.

Unfortunately, it’s becoming simpler to obtain an off-brand women’s Ugg shoes due to the confusing names where the overseas corporations are advertising. A lot of companies will also be producing Ugg look-alike shoes which contain pretend materials rather than sheepskin. Should you wish the Australian Ugg comfort, make certain it’s a true Sydney product.

How To Write A Professional Curriculum Vitae
November 25, 2010 / 03:02

Only list those relevant to the work you do, and resist the temptation to tell them about every qualification you have. If you have a degree, for example, there's no point listing all of your qualifications from school (you may want to say how many you have) as they have been superseded. All you will do is use up valuable space on irrelevant information.
