Scruff Connors Interview

January 29, 2008 @ 09:32

Scruff Connors came to Toronto in 1980 as morning man at Q-107 and stayed there until 1985.

After stops in Philadelphia, St. Catherines and Edmonton, he returned to Q-107 in 1993 for just over a year.

His career then took him to Winnipeg until 1995 when he began a forced sabbatical that lasted the better part of six years.

In 2001 Scruff became an original cast member of MOJO Radio where he stayed until the summer of 2005.

Since then, it's been a tough time for Scruff Connors. He's battled various health issues and undergone several operations.

This interview isn't so much about the history of Scruff Connors the disc jockey, it's more about the future of a popular radio guy who pissed in the eye of the grim reaper.

I always knew that Scruff was a tough guy ..I had no idea he played Frisbee with manhole covers and snacked on rusty nails.

Great to hear your voice, Freddie. What a wonderful interview. Scruffer!! I'm thrilled to hear that you're doing well. You still have one of the best voices I've ever heard in the business. Radio misses you and you too Fred. All the best to both of you.

I remember listening to Scruff on 97.7 HTZ FM in St Catharines. I was hooked.

The man has no equals.

I'll go back even further...I knew Jeff when he did The Weirdman show on 58 CKY in Winnipeg, Manitoba during the mid 1970's. It was fantastic!!! Closest thing to Wolfman Jack that we had back then.

Hey Jeff...Hallson here. I was looking you up on the 'Net and was delighted you are doing well. We had a great time at CFRW and CKGM. It was a blast to chat with you at Q-107 wayyyyy back in the 80's. I was living in Penticton recently without knowing you were in Osoyoos. Damn. I'm so sorry i misseed a connection there.

All the best to you old friend...and thanks for bringing me to Montreal.

take care, pal.

Great interview. Had drinks with Scruff in Lindsay at the Cat and Fiddle. His son TJ is a DJ here in town and he is awesome. He's got some big shoes to fill but he his on his way. He won't be in Lindsay for long.
