I seem to be thinking this a lot recently “thank God I don’t live in Toronto”. Another down side to this idea is the cost to taxpayers. As if they don’t pay too much already. Then again I’m sure the province will kick in a few billion to get the black vote.

Wow, and I thought we were getting it bad with the Religious Right here in the states. Why do we have to separate ourselves by Race? We are human friggin beings whether black, white, yellow, blue, it doesnt matter. Why is this school a good idea? I think its awful. I think catholic and private schools are awful as well because they teach their point of view not to a well rounded child. An all african school would be one point of view not a well rounded, multi ethnic education.

This is crazy that we are having a seperate school for the "black" kids. I think this is the worst mistake that this country can do at this time. I want to have a classroom that only has 10 kids in it can I have a school like that? My kid does not get special one on one time with the teacher. If you read the Sun today, I could not believe what I was reading about 40% of the caribbean, 30something%, 20something% were from Africa and only a low 20something% of "canadian" "black kids" are not getting the education, are not making it past 10th grade. What the hell do you realize how many children % it says are from Canada so does this mean something???????????

Am I racist because I am sooooo against this, that I dont want my tax dollars to go to a seperate school. I dont think this is fair for others who maybe struggling? It is so funny that up where I live if a student is having problems at a conventional highschool they can opt at leaving and attend an adult learning centre, which is regular highschool but in a different format. This school has worked for many of them. My brother has had to attend and he was having huge problems at the highschool and went to the adult learning and has just finished his diploma. Crazy thought....why dont they do more of these....What are people so afraid of.
I would not think of calling someone racist because they said no to a seperate school, more so the opposite...I believe that the people who would like the seperate school are the ones who are racist as they obviously have a hate on for someone or the system....

I guess with this idiotic idea going through my question is what will define such a school as a success. I'm not going into details of what percentage drop out, but say the number of African students dropping out or becoming despondent with school is 35 %( arbitrary number). If suddenly this number is 33% is that a success or is 30% a success of for that matter would anyone consider 25% a success. In my mind the idea for this type of school is beyond ridiculous, but if such a school is set in place to me the only way I could even conceive of this as being a success is if they can bring the drop out rate to 1 or 2%. Why would I hold such a high standard well if there is a school that is going to be set up specifically geared to set students with mentors and the whole she bang then this school should be turning out more graduates then regular public or catholic high schools. Maybe I expect too much........

If black kids who don't do well in regular public school start failing at black public school, what then?
Aside from the colour of the skin of the teachers and students, how will the school differ from other schools? Are there "black" teaching methods that would be used? If such techniques exist, could they be implemented at a lower cost in existing schools?
I can't help but think math is math in any context. I have to assume that the kids would be taught to speak and write English correctly as they would in any other school. Same applies to Science. I can see some possible differences in the Arts and History, but why not push for those changes to be implemented into the existing curriculum?
This whole idea makes no sense to me.
